Basically it goes on about how an evil Alien emperor (is that right?) rounded up innocent alien races, killed them all and dumped them on Earth. Their souls started to escape and the evil alien thing (Xenu apparently) forsaw that will happen and stopped them escaping. The souls then went into primitive man and formed all the negative aspects of Mankind including the creation of religion... Each person has a thetan level in which it bring about negative emotions etc.. For a fee you can go to a scientology place and they will perform specific form of voodoo on you and you'll be "helped".

And so ultimately it's a cult which promises happiness if you give them your money.

Just wikipedia the thing. The article isn't tainted because it's locked from public editing (at least last time I checked it was). I read about it for 3 hours or so, opening new windows all over the place and finally threw up my hands and said "I give up." I didn't give up because I didn't understand it but rather because the foundations of the beliefs are so shaky. I don't know how some people can accept that as true. I think some scientologists even refuse to accept the whole extraterrestrial concept as a part of scientology and would rather attribute it to a temporary lapse of sanity on the part of the founder... either that or he was stoned.

That was pretty trippy. I think a lot of people have issues with psychology because they don't understand it.

Watch the South Park episode…it explains it quite well.

Like most things in life, animation can put it into context.

Ick, that was discusting. I always thought they were just fucked up in the head and nothing else.

Thanks to you, I'm going to lie sleepless in bed in fear of Tom Cruise jumping out of my closet (lololol south park) and stabbing me to death.

Great.

True. The South Park episode explaining scientology was fantastic! Im just not sure how people can believe this stuff though. How comes SETI finds nothing, but this Hubbard character can know that this evil alien overlord exists. And thats just one flaw!

Never heard of sciontolgy.

If you mean that wacko bat shit crazy religion that includes travolta and cruise, then yes, I know what you're talking about.

Scientology is massive scam to use religion as a legal means to practice tax fraud. It is a money laundering scheme thought up by a science fiction writer.

Don't take anything a scientologist says to you a face value.

it's a pretty odd religion based on aliens or something... like all the overpowered souls were banished to earth and they became man or something like that

Souls becomming man.. how absurd.. If they mentioned that life may have originated outside this planet and arrived here on a comet (panspermia) i'd be more willing to believe it.

it is a religion created by a science fiction writer, Elron Hubbard (GO FIGURE)
According to him, our ancestors were really aliens from another planet escaping persecution from an oppressive alien dictator or something. The aliens escaped in golden airplanes and crashed into a volcano on earth. Volcano erupts and all the aliens' spirits are instilled in all living things on earth, thus giving us personality and such. ............................................. ............................................. ............

See, this is why I now hate freedom of religion and speech.

Good call. I try to be open minded, but when I first saw that (followed by actually looking into the religion), it makes it very hard.

Obviously it cannot be claimed eitherway as it depends upon ones own opinions of what the soul is. If the soul is our consciousness then it is formed because of the need to know our suroundings... But oh well..

Hey, has anyone here seen Bowfinger starring Eddie Murphy and Steve Martin? In it Eddie Murphy plays this movie star who's part of this cult called "MindHead" and Steve Martin is a low budget director trying to film a script called "Chubby Rain"?

If not, I recommend you all watch it.

I've just spent the last hour or so watching the YTMND, the south park excerpt, and reading every wikipedia article related to scientology, and I have on question.

IS THIS FOR FUCKING REAL!?
