alchemy. is it real?

i bet most of you clicking on this are thinking " no you fucking moron" or " do you watch full metal alchemist or sumthing." Well actually i hat full metal alchemist and no i go to a decent school with decent grades ( 11th grader b's and c's). So this is about REAL alchemy. I was thinking about buying sum alchemy books for entertainmenr,fun, and even a little science purposes. so if you think it's real giv me sum tips and just talk about it i'm bored. Well i hope you enjoy this blog or thread or whatever you wanna call it.

Sigh alchemy is very real, think of it this way If we boil a pot of seawater, have that steam go into a bucket then it seperates the salt and water then you boil the bucket and get seawater
we use alchemy, equivilent exchange is a law of it but its also a law of life as far as im concerned, i mean we cant Take Non existant elements and make things with them.

If you want to get into this scientifically, you could note that lead is 2 spaces away from gold on a periodic table. This means that lead would have to gain or lose (I forgot if it was 2 spaces before or after)2 protons. Removing a proton from a cell causes a nuclear reaction and all participants would be dead.

Alchemy is not real. Neither is Mary Shelly's Frankenstein. The study began with knowledge they didn't have that we do now that can be used to prove Alchemy doesn't work.

Yes, it is true that it can't be turned into actual gold, it can be turned into a substance similar to gold. It's called "synthesis", it synthesizes gold as opposed to becoming it, it gives the illusion of lead being gold.

Exactly. Like I had previously stated, it is about synthesizing substances, it isn't some kind of magic that makes precious goods from nothing. I really wish the people who don't get this would keep shut about it.

My main arguement was how alchemy is fake, this "lead to gold" thing was an example. It is the cliche people think of when they say "alchemy", right?

In your paragraph, you more or less state that

A) Lead can't turn to gold
B) Alchemy is fake

This, we must then infer, means that alchemists who attempted this practice made an illusion of gold, ie: fake gold. We could state that alchemists are in reality masters of illusion. Illusion=/=real, therefore alchemy is fake.

Yes it is possible to turn lead into gold, if you have -alot- of money and a few scientists at your disposal.

Other Alchemy type things that they figured out on the way to trying to turn lead into gold is just chemistry.

Well, the idea of a sorceror's (philosopher's) stone is impossible. Eternal life may be possible, I don't know. However, changing metal into gold is not. As gold is a single element, as are most metals, changing its entire structure isn't possible.

However, the energy required to perform the task would cost more then the weight of gold. Basically, it would cost more to just make the gold then it would profit to buy lead and sell the resulting gold.

Thus, no one wants to develope the technology to do it, simply because it would only be for novel purposes.
