I was wondering what everyone thought on who would make a great presidential candidate. It can be to represent any party, but please back up your opinion so that it might help influence non-voters to get interested. I personally like Barack Obama. The reason he is a great candidate is because he is living the American dream and he is really enthusiastic about the country. He is a real go getter in the senate and would carry that over to the white house. He is probably the best orator that I have ever heard, and I have heard quite a few. He is naturally worried and concerned for every other human being and it can be heard in the way he speaks. This is why I believe Barack would be the best presidential candidate in 2008. I truly hope he becomes the first african american candidate elected to that office.

President? I'd liked to see ANYONE but a politician. Maybey Bill Maur, for president but keep Dick Chaney as vice president. No one will try to assasinate Maur while Chaney's sitting on deck besides, the vice president doesn't have any real power(beside complete amunity from being charged with shooting a guy).
Oh, and Charles Manson as secretary of defense and Carlos Mencia as secretary of forigen affairs.
MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!!

I agree, its unfortunate that the media and the republican party tore into him like sharks at the smallest sign of blood.

I dont know if any of you have seen Man of the Year yet, but that movie really brings to light some issues with political system while still being funny as hell. Honestly, I would like to see a comedian run for president because I think a comedian can do a really good job as long as he has a good cabinet. Thoughts?

There's a lot of talk about Obama coming from the left side recently. He might be a better candidate than Hillary Clinton they say. However, I'm watching CNN at the moment and they said it would be easier for the Republican party to attack Obama because according to the New York Times: he has a "slender resume" little experience in international policy and he's black. So yes I can see a problem there. I personally have not looked into Obama's political experience or where he stands on the issues so I will refrain from making a definite conclusion about him.

Not true. Bush had a very impressive cabinet in 2000, where the hell are they now?
You've been watching Robin Williams aye?

I could see his resume posting some problems with him as a presidential candidate, but just because he is unexperienced doesn't mean he can't do the job. Amatuers are often the best because they are not tainted yet. I actually like his short record because in his short record he has not yet screwed up. As for republicans attacking him because he is african american, well they are just stupid if they do that. MLK said it best when he said, "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. " From what I can tell Obama has the best character out of ANY politician that has had office in recent years.

I wouldn't put it past some people to try and taint Obama's character. Earlier in the CNN program there was some footage of a debate between Hillary Clinton and her oponent (didn't catch his name but I'm sure ya'll seasoned politics junkies know who) and her opponent actually had the gall to strike a low blow by talking about her appearance. He said something along the lines of how she used to look back then and how Bill could have chosen her, you know, personal things. So anyway I'm bringing that up because I wouldn't put it past opponents to try and degradate Obama's image on whatever premises possible.

That's a tough decision...I don't know who I'd (make my parents) vote for! Probably Obama, because he's the best of both worlds.

Obama is a great candidate... for 2012. He doesn't yet have the experience to be able to run and win against the Republican machine just yet. Give him a few years, and if he keeps his nose clean, he'll be nearly impossible to beat.
Hillary is patently unelectable. Hell, if McCain ran against her, I'd vote for him, and I'm a registered Dem. The job isn't about whose more popular, it's about who can do the job, and McCain has both the experience and the savvy to get it done and done well. Barrak will, eventually, but plopping him in the '08 election is political suicide.
Tis better to sit in silence and be presumed a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt.

I really wish Condolezza Rice would run. Not only does that woman have some real guts going overseas to talk things out with people that hate our collective guts, but it would end the false stereotype of us conservatives being bigoted sexists.

Personally, I think all of the above candidates are morons, and have no business being in office. Who would I choose? A nobody, with the least amount of corruption.

Govenor Mitt Romney. He has a squeaky clean record of no corruption, he turned Massachussett's $3 Billion deficiet (sp) into a $700 million surplus with out raising taxes, he know how to work with Democrats on account of he is a Republican govenor working with a 84% democrat legislature and he has gotten many things past, he gives his full govenor's salary to charity, he save the 2002 Salt Lake Olympic games from ruin by fixing its budget - getting rid of the corruption in the leadership - and making it run very smooth - it is aruged to be one of the most smoothly ran Olympics in the history of the games, he is a strong advocate for education, he knows how to take action (look at the recent big dig problems in Boston he is taking care of), and last but not least he can has introduced a fully functional universal health care plan in Massachusetts that runs on free market principlse and seems to be working.
Mitt Romney is the best man for President in 2008.

If anyone is making America look like an ass it's people like yourself. Show some fucking pride man. Anyway, I'm for anyone but Hillary. If that chick gets in, I'm moving to Japan.

I'm leaning toward Mitt Romney, though should former Senator Fred Thompson enter the race, or Newt Gingrich I may have to rethink my current position, though given the moving up of so many of the primaries those two may be leaving their entries into the race a bit too late for them to even matter.

Gravel! He's the only one who doesn't sugar-coat everything. Instead of just telling us what we want to hear, he tells us the cold, hard facts. He's the only candidate with balls. Unfortunately, there's no chance in Hell he'd ever get the nomination.

I think I'm going to vote for Obama. And I actually can now, because I'm 18.
Obama has the best character of any presidential candidate in a long time. And I think his short time in politics will actually be a good thing because he is has not had time to become a product of the corruption stream.
It's kinda like that Mr. Smith goes to Washington movie, Mr. Smith was inexperienced in office, but that came hand in hand with a clean record and good character that allowed him to overcome corruption and bribes.
Hillary is too controversial
McCain is too old.
Giuliani is an asshole.
But dicks also fuck assholes, Chuck.
And if they didn't fuck the assholes,
you know what you'd get?
You'd get your dick and your pussy
all covered in shit.

I can't bring myself to support Obama.
He's just so...unelectable. Currently, I'm undecided, but I've done some work for Dodd's campaign, and I like him.

Where is this coming from that the Republicans are attacking Obama for being black? I think more is being made about his race from the Democrats and the Left than from the Right. Remember, Republicans are not intrinsically racist. The GOP has a longer track record in regards to civil rights than the Democrats...remember the KKK was once the terrorist wing of the Democratic party...
In short I have not heard one of my Republican friends say anything about him being black. I know about three people who will not vote for Obama based on his race (they will also not vote for Hillary because she is a woman) and they are all Democrats...

MacCain is last among the top three Republican presidential hopefuls. Not gonna win this'n, buddy.
