On behalf of our producers Kathleen Glynn and Michael Donovan from Canada, I'd like to thank the Academy for this.
I have invited my fellow documentary nominees on the stage with us, and we would like to - they're here in solidarity with me because we like non-fiction.
We like non-fiction and we live in fictitious times. We live in the time where we have fictitious election results that elects a fictitious president.
We live in a time where we have a man sending us to war for fictitious reasons. Whether it's the fictition of duct tape or fictition of orange alerts we are against this war, Mr Bush.
Shame on you, Mr Bush, shame on you. And any time you got the Pope and the Dixie Chicks against you, your time is up. Thank you very much.
Propaganda is to a Democracy what violence is to a Dictatorship
Never underestimate the significance of "significant."

*LOL*
I laughed, and applauded. GOOD FOR HIM! Good for him for speaking to an audience like that, and standing up for what he believes!
He got booed, which I expected. He also got applauded, which I also expected. So many people ride the fence on this, and are afraid of such bold statements. Michael Moore said exactly what was on his mind.
My mind, too, really. Shame on you, Mr. Bush.
I mean...who wants to piss off the Dixie Chicks??

I gave Mr. Moore a standing ovation (from my seat, of course, with a caffeinated 7-Up in one hand). He had the balls to stand up and say that as everyone was booing, and the very Orwellian moment when the microphone retracted into the floor was fantastic. Just shows that those who aren't million-dollar stars aren't afraid to speak their mind.

From what I've seen and read, I think he wasn't really doing anything unique. The anti-war stars in hollywood are quite vocal

I'm shocked that no one has had anything particularly negative to say about Moore's speech. For crying out loud--why do people keep dwelling on something that happened THREE YEARS AGO? 2000 is long gone, folks. Hmmm... let's see... Bush's high approval rating? Republican victories in 2002? Doesn't anyone think that the 2000 monkey is off of Bush's back? The fact that Moore can't come up with anything better than mentioning 2000, duct tape, and orange alerts says to me that he was just talking crap. Surely, even with only one minute, you can give some better arguments than that, right?
Oh well. I didn't even watch the Oscars. I say let Hollywood have their happy little anti-war party, and let people who are actually aware of the situation make the decisions.

Maybe let's get one thing straight first... the Oscar's are about art (well... sort of)... NOT POLITICS! All of the actors in Hollywood have enough money to buy television commercials to do their ranting, I don't need to hear their crap from the sidelines. Go back to the gutter Moore.

Anyone else find it ironic that Michael Moore won the Oscar for non-fiction and yet his film has been proven to be fiction, edited together to give a false impression?
He's an ignorant blowhard opportunist who decided to take a cheap shot in front of one of the biggest liberally embracing audiences he could have ever imagined. One that showered adoration on a child drugger and rapist. And he still got booed more than cheered. That tells you something.

Good argument maybe we shouldn't mention 9-11 neither cause it's allmost 2 years ago.
face it: the past determines the present. Therefor those arguments are still valid and they will be as long as u have Bush as a political leader.

In Michael Moore's letter to bush which is printed on his website, and also in a thread in the general forum Moore had all the time in the world to write out his argument, and still failed. His letter to bush was actually worse and less logical than the speech he gave.

hyuck. I honestly hope that wasn't supposed to be an argument. Bush and the rest of our department of defense know infinitely more about what is really going on in the middle east than these whiny liberals trying to push their own agenda on TV. While Michael Moore looks like a clever person trying to bring out the truth, actually researching the way he puts together all of his movies reveals that he is really quite willing to use fallacious arguments and directly lie to serve his own agenda.

Yeah, and Bush never EVER lies....
Point out a time where Bush has lied to the american public?
Let's say you actually are able to prove this... Does that mean that your argument is "two wrongs make a right"? Everyone seems to be emphatically supporting Michael Moore, and the great argument behind it is that "He's not the only one to lie!"

Why is it that celebrities think that just because they are famous means that thier opinion matters more. They need to be held to a higher standard, celebrities have a drastic effect on what people think so if they are going to say something they should have a clearly though out view supported with evidence. And dont give me a bunch of freedom of speech crap...

Moore realizes that he has a drastic effect on his audience, and that many of them will follow blindly what he says... He capitalizes quite nicely on this. I have been doing a great deal of research on this subject lately and I am really impressed at the sheer quantity of lies and half truths he presents in his movies. I was never even tempted to think Moore was anything but truthful until I saw the rediculous letter he wrote to bush.

People listen more to celebrities, because the mass finds them more interesting. Most of the time they aren't but that doesn't matter. If you know more people listen to you, you would state your opinion too.

Yes... I would state it with well thought out and logically valid arguments. There is nothing wrong with stating your opinion, the problem is saying it without any reason. This isn't Moore's first time lying to masses. The last he did it he won documentary of the year.

He's one of the best makers of film propaganda out there today. Nothing wrong with that as long as you realize it for what it is, not a revelation of the truth.
He's a classic ends-justify-the-means type of liberal.

Convention of Human Rights : Everyone has the right to freedom of speech.
Hohoho. No, seriously, they probably domt think thta their views mean more, they know they can get their opinions across. If you could speak for 30 seconds on anything you liked politics-wise, dont you think you might try to make your views come across?

Not at the Oscars. People are watching to see who wins awards and how hot the chicks look, not to have politcal garbage shoved down their throat. Moore only did it to enhance his place as the anti-establishment guy--a niche that appeals to the psuedo-rebel crowd. You know, the people that are against authority, no matter what the issue or what the real facts are.
Oh my God! Not Bobby Hill too! (photo taken at a recent anti-war protest)

Michael Moore is a moron, he tries to ride his worn out bullshit and over extend his 15 minutes of fame by hopping on the bandwagon and talking shit about Bush. Whoopdie fucking doo, any halfwit with a mouth can do that. He deserved to get booed and I was quite happy that he did.
Also, to close, nobody gives a shit about the dixie chicks or the pope.

Shame on you, Mr. Moore, for turning a night of honors and awards into your personal political platform.
Shame on you, Mr. Moore, not for expressing your right to free speech, but for failing to realize that this was neither the appropriate time nor place for such grandstanding.
