A bit is just an on/off signal, a 0 or a 1, or 1/8 of a byte. Unless you're trying to calculate the time it would take to load, there is no point in measuring in bits.

I think displaying it in tenths of Kbs is a pretty good idea, it's not that bad... I can get used to that, liljim. Ie's ok if it's just in Kb, if everyone wants it that way because everyone's used to that, sure, I can live with that, but tenths of Kbs is good too. I don't think it's necessary to go further to hundredths, if you're planning to (I don't think you guys are).

Hahaha... I never thought of that! Yeah, the flash the CC cherishes. This can also be used for all those other movies shown as 0 bits (I'm wondering why some of them didn't get blammed, for odd reasons, because many of them are just blank shit).

1. the size is still displayed in Kb. There's just more precision.
2. This was the way things used to be displayed - I started playing with that stuff yesterday.
If this "new" method is confusing people, we can change back to just Kb rather than floating point figures - what does everyone think?
Precision is usually good. But in this case, I think it disguises small movies. When you see
13.4
sitting in the size spot, it somehow looks like a "bigger" number than it used to look when it used to say

For one thing, the way the . shows up in that font is really tiny. But eh, whatever. Judging movies on size isn't the most reliable method.

As you just pointed out, bits are 1/8 of a byte. So if a movie is 14.5 kilobytes, say, it's 14848 bytes, and thus 118784 bits. So bits is a perfectly fine way of measuring filesize... I don't know where you're coming up with this "time it would take to load" stuff.
It's just that the numbers would be way too big. As you can see, you'd top 1 million bits in a movie around 100 kilobytes.

I think making the digit for the tenths of a Kb a smaller font would look better, if it's easy to do, so the units in Kb show up and stand out above the tenths, but the tenths still stay there, for precision.

I noticed. Good joke.
Well, for a moment or two. heh.
... in OTHER news... I am about to make the top 50 blammer/protector list. WOOT.

Now there's a quality idea. Make it hundredths in that case. Kinda the small font, like when you see 100.oo dollars, with the two little oo's for the amount of cents in superscript with a line under 'em.

Thanks for the compliment. I also think that making the units bold and leaving the tenths (and hundredths, as you've suggested) as regular characters also works - any way that makes the units stand out more than the numbers right of the decimal point should work.

no, watching them is. are you saying you got some of your blams/protects on movies you didn't watch? *shakes fist angry-like* Why I oughtta *more fist shakage

I don't usually do more than glance at the KB. When it's 138, there it is. When it looks like 1384 but there's a tiny little . hidden between the 8 and 4, it doesn't look like 138 no more, it looks like 10 times as much.
For one thing, the way the . shows up in that font is really tiny. But eh, whatever. Judging movies on size isn't the most reliable method.no, watching them is. are you saying you got some of your blams/protects on movies you didn't watch? *shakes fist angry-like* Why I oughtta *more fist shakage
No, I'm saying that if I see a 5K movie, I'm going to be skeptical about it unless it proves me wrong. Now, if it's tiny and a game, it sometimes is still good, but it's hard to find a good movie under 20K or so. And the size is sorta a heads-up warning of what's to come.
Before, it was just voting power and the scores of movies... it was simpler that way. (Sob) stop the madness, someone!huh? what's any of that got to do with any of that other that?
Hell if I know. I just live in this brain.

to making it more? Not really. It's not about the actual complexity, I've been talking about the visual immediacy. And numbers of identical font with a tiny period blend together way more than more complex numbers with more decimal places that have SOME sort of difference to the digits to the right of the period. Which are then more useful and more recognisable at the same time! And what's wrong with that?
eh... I'm getting really distracted by the decimal and all when looking at file sizes. What's next, showing us our exp points to the nearest hundredth?to making it more complicated :P

I poke fun at my own OCD all the time. It's just the way I am. But hey, people actually agreed with me on this one, so I can't be all that crazy. #;-}>
