The dictator is nuts! He first tested the nuclear bomb and now I hear today that he is taking all the food to himself and the military leaving citizens with food or drink!
We can't go to war, we got IRaq to deal with! I'm really scared about this. What hould happen in your opinion?!
I'm freaking out a bit if you notice all of "!"

Are you suggesting he's taken all the food from the citizens? I need proof if that's so...

No one can confirm except those involved in the tests.

Yes, South Korea and Japan. China and japan and maybe even may need to go to war with them. Even though they aren't a threat to us, launching those nukes will destroy the whole country.

Those threads are about issues (notice the "s" at the end of issues because there are more than one) with N. Korea and what actions can be taken to correct the problem and avoid any confrontation. In those topics, I believe in the original, we were also talking about a possible draft because U.S. troops are spread thin in the middle-east. At least skim the thread before saying something which has already been said three times over.

Ok ok fine, sheesh! Your thread is differnt in the sense that:
A. It doesn't deal with going into a possible war with N. Korea as the others do
B. It doesn't talk about international cooperation as the others do
C. It doesn't talk about the N. Korea military leader as the others do
Oh wait... it does... n/m!
In fact, the only thing your thread talks about that the others do not talk about is... yes you guessed it FOOR SUPPLY! So please go ahead and talk about supplying the N. Koreans with foor all you wish.

I say we let other countries in the UN deal with him. We cleaned up the Iraq mess, did most of the fighting and paid most of the resources, and all we got for it was bad press and bitching from the UN. Most likely they are waiting for us to clean up this mess too and they will likely depict us as war mongers even if we do. Thus, I say this is a perfect way to see how the UN would deal with a crisis.

Depends on what you call "clean." If a bottle of wine breaks on the floor, the floor will not be clean until all the major and visible pieces of glass have been picked up and the wine has been cleaned in order to avoid slipping. All the U.S. has done in that analogy is pick up a few pieces of glass and toss a napkin on the spill.

T-N-T here is why your thread is irrelevant:
The food supply problems have been going on since about 1997 when N. Korea was hit by a massive famine. Since that time an estimated 2 million N. Koreans have died of starvation. China, S. Korea, Japan and the US have provided economic and humanitarian aid. This aid has been diverted to feed the military, then the political elite, then the politically sound and then everyone else. This has been going on and has been known for years. We have taken steps to ensure food gets to who needs it, but the DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea is N. Korea's official name) has blocked these efforts. Aid workers are allowed in country to oversee food distribution; however they are restricted in that after 90 days they have to leave and new workers brought in and some provinces are off-limits. Peace Corps type people cannot effectively assert their will against an army and its AK-47s.
There have been massive environmental costs; seeds that the government provides to the peasants to grow food for the state have been stolen in the rural areas and mountains have been deforested to make way for private plots. Now the rural areas are starting to rebound and the urban centers are feeling the pinch. I saw the deforestation with my own eyes when I visited the DMZ in Feb of this year. The tree line ends where the DPRK begins. (As well as the radio jammers that are pointed inward to keep foreign influence out.)
This has been well known and documented, just like all the counterfeiting of American dollars (this is how they pay for operating costs of embassies overseas in third world countries).
Now let's look at how this humanitarian aid crisis effects the current crisis:
Believe it or not the N. Koreans:
1) Do not blame Kim Jong-Il. They attribute the problems to the corrupt elite that surrounds Kim. (Kim is the family name while Jong-Il is a generational and individual name.) So in the case of an elite led coup, chances are the populace and junior and mid-level military officers may overthrow the elite coup leaders. Now this leads to the next problem:
2) The population has been sold a line of propaganda that the food and other shortages are for the war effort against the imperialists oppressing S. Korea (or the Republic of Korea, ROK), these imperialists would be the US folks. So the population and up to mid-level officers of the military actually want war as a way to end the suffering.
3) Finally, believe it or not the N. Koreas believe they have a better standard of living than everyone else in the world! Look at this blog by Juche Girl:
http://juchegirl.blo..k-what-bush-did.html
While I have some small doubts on the authenticity of this site; it is really does conform with what is actually being taught and reported in the DPRK.
So if we act against Kim it could start a war if he is in charge; in fact the North is saying the UN resolution is a declaration of war. This is scary because his father, Kim Il-Sung started the Korean War in July 1950 on the pretext that the US and ROK had invaded the North (which was not the case).
Now if we attempted regime change this could result in someone who could actually be worse and re-start (the Korean war has never been officially ended with a peace treaty; only an armistace).
So let's look at war with N. Korea.
They have conventional artillery buried in the mountains North of Seoul that can rain down a terrific amount of fire that would level Seoul. These could be conventional, biological or chemically tipped shells. In the first day of fighting there will be an estimated one million casualties of both civilian and military. These positions will be immune from air attack. Meanwhile SCUD missiles would be fired on rear positions and air bases. With inaccurate tracking systems, these would be sure to also inflict massive damage on civilian populations around these bases.
They also have the largest Spec Ops forces (about 120,000 troops) a good number of which are already in the South. One of the capabilities of these force is spreading biological agents; thus according to a book called Plague Wars we could be facing about 80% casualties of US military personnel before the first shots are fired.
So to bring this massive post to a point:
This thread is irrelevent because it offers nothing new to the equation and does not change our options in a significantly new way or offers any hitherto unavailable ones. The food problems are commonly known to people who watch the DPRK, and is thus not a new developement. Nor has it been classified by the government, but has been well published in the media and scholarly journals. Hell, just look at the news footage of Kim in public with his Buddha belly. Then look at all the other N. Koreans around him; the vast majority are emaciated and if they look healthy they are more likely than not close relatives of the dictator. They did not get that way in the past few days...
So now can we go back to the other threads?

We have been responsible for maintaining stability in Asia since WWII and we have been successful. Whereas in Iraq we have yet to "clean up the mess".
N. Korea presents a clear and present danger to the region, and could spark a new arms race in a region where our interests are at stake.
S. Korea is one of our most reliable allies; second only (MAYBE) to the UK.
Within the next 5-15 years the DPRK will more than likely have the technology to deliever a nuclear bomb to the majority of the contential US (with the exception of the Florida Keys and the tip of Maine). THEY ARE A DIRECT THREAT TO US MORE THAN IRAQ OR IRAN.
Finally, we have made commitments to this country to provide for their security. There is a point of honor here.

OK, and why is that? I myself believe that each country has the right to decide how it should be run and what is best for the people, but I also believe that because it is the people that make up the country and not the government and thus they should have the ultimate say in how the country should be run because they hold the ultimate power, it is just sad that a lot of them don't realise that if they fought for there rights then people like this mental-case in N.KOREA, might not exist.

Yeah, America sanctioned them Japan did aswell and China was supposed to but they are also N.Koreas largest tradeing country, China wants to be friends with both the U.S. and N.Korea but the only way they can still be is if Korea stopped its testing on Nuclear weapons and that probably wont happen. N.Korea would loose to America in comparison to military force, but then theres the fact that China is friends with both of them and could literaly pwn us (America) they have a SOLDIER for every PERSON in the U.S. so we don't want to make them made either. Tough choice ?

well it happened. a teacher showed me this. if I were recall, I think the food supply from other countries may have stop sending them due to nuclear missles. So the dictator decided to have the food for himself and the military. I hope it makes more sence.
