The Internet Gambling Ban. 2006-10-16 19:56:35 Reply

Now, I haven't taken part in this much myself, but I'm still a little disgusted with the situation.

What are all the reasons for it? Is it strictly because the government isn't getting any money off of this, or does it run deeper than that?

Somebody's going to have to fully explain this to me.

Also, discuss.

Because internet gambling is really sketch and it's impossible to regulate it so people don't get ripped off?

What’s stopping US citizens for using gambling sites form other countries?

Well, as of Saturday, the government had nine months to figure out how it's going to be enforced.

If it's all started from another country other than the U.S., than what the hell's the big deal? Why is it that you can't gamble online in the U.S.?

It's all a bit sketchy for me.

It makes sense. The government has been trying for decades to concentrate "vices" such as gambling into specific areas which can be regulated and monitored for safety. It makes good sense, at least for gambling,

Online gambling organizations don't benefit other internet users, and they are next to impossible to track and regulate. It makes perfect sense to attempt to break them down, from a politician's point of view, but I doubt they will be able to enforce it. The primary strength of the internet is how decentralized and uncontrollable it remains.

The reasons for the ban are legit.

1) You can't ID someone, so you don't know if they are 16, 18, 21, or 90.
2) It was easily misused and people were losing a lot of their money by gambling under the age.
3) Its also very easy to just steal someone else's credit card and gamble with it.

I'm all for gambling, but with its limits. You can't regulate an online casino nearly as easily as a normal one, therefore without regulation you cannot tell if they are taking unfair advantage of their clients, cheating them out of thousands, or if they do things by the books. Just too many uncertainties.

The thing is i highly doubt it's for "saftey" reasons most likely is because the government receives money from casinos whilst online gambling companies pay no money to governments.

Online gambling is very good. While i don't gamble often more times than not when i do i finish with a nice profit.
