Well, I've finally gotten myself a demo... and I find it in the Fruity Loops component tree, but I have no clue how to use it. The PDF manual only shows usage in Cubase and Logic, so I'm quite lost.

If you're going to use the vanguard demo, just to let you know it sucks, it cuts out in the middle of you song and stuff. You should buy though, because it is awesome.
I use vanguard, with FL Studio(good combination) and is a link:

okay, you know those four things on the front page that are there when you open FL Studio, those are channels, they say something like DNC Bass and Hi-Hat, etc. what you do is right click on one of those and goto insert(or replace) and click vanguard. Then you open piano roll to make stuff. Click on it to open the plugin and do stuff

how many times me has to say it?, right click a channel and goto vanguard. I can't make a screenshot because this computer has no FL studio, it's not the one I make music on.

Okay guys, thanks for bearing with my stupidity... I got it to work. Can anyone second this statement? Which is better, Vanguard or Z3ta? Can't find the price tag on Z3ta... are the quality of the instruments realtively similar, and in addition to that, which has more?

I personally have never used z3ta but would like to since I've heard great things about it. I've got vanguard and I think it's really good quality but maybe I'm wrong.

It probably is great quality, but to really know between the two you'll have to experience both... an experience that won't come cheap. :P

Guys... isn't Cakewalk's Rapture a newer version of Z3ta? Perhaps that's why I couldn't find it on the online shop...

It all comes down to how you use the specific plugin anyway.
And if you wanted to know, i stopped using vanguard a long time ago :P.

I'd mainly be using it as an instrument... I'm not even sure what effect it has to offer. Again, is Rapture the descendant of Z3ta?

I used Vanguard once or twice, simply because I wanted to get a gritty sound. Well, it gave me what I wanted, lol.

awww come on guys
I say vanguard, it's very easy on CPU and you can make some really sweet gates a lot faster than z3ta.
on the other hand z3ta is a powerful synth, but it takes a long time to learn and it is very CPU heavy. I personally use Vanguard more than z3ta. Plus I think z3ta is more expensive.
of course I use a crapload of other VSTs, so I could argue some other options than z3ta. which reminds me I need to send you all that stuff, G9. :P Kinda slipped my mind. I'll do it right now.
