Right now? Absolutely nothing. I finished Gurren Lagann earlier this week and I don't know what to watch next. A friend's been trying to persuade me to watch One Piece so I can watch it with him every week and discuss whatever thrilling events don't happen, but I'd rather watch paint dry than spend two hundred hours of my life watching the same fucking thing. I don't know what I actually want to watch, something a bit more serious after gurren lagann would be nice though.

Mendou mentioned Armored Troop Votoms, nothing too over the top compared to TTGL. Or if your sick of mechs, maybe try Mad Bull 34 and Windaria, those are some pretty serious ones I'm watching.
Just stop worrying, and love the bomb.

How do you directly know it's going to get worse, per se? Of course, anime studios will push the envelope further, just like movies, games, etc., they're going to keep pushing until it becomes something like a borderline ecchi because that is what the fans want, and the studios have to get with the times and stay on par with other facets of entertainment., in terms of suggestiveness. I think the FBI has more pressing concerns than boobies and excessive blood in anime, but that's another discussion for another day.
You've got a point, but there are a few things you need to keep in mind: the government tends to react more swiftly and with more force to perceived threats coming from foreign sources and when a domestic company does the same. In other words, a Hollywood movie could contain a piece of objectionable content that borders on NC-17 and still pass through to the general public, but if an anime were to be released containing the same content, the FCC, FBI and possibly the FTC would jump on it like a pack of dogs on a three-legged cat. It's all part of an inherent xenophobic mindset that's been around longer than anyone can remember.
You make it sound like the dubbing companies are jerks with nothing better to do than insult anime fans like us with shitty dubs and joke subs.
They sometimes come off as such, yes. Al Kahn has repeatedly admitted to not respecting the anime community and has shown it by releasing two shows (Yu-Gi-Oh! and Shaman King, to be precise) on uncut DVD for a time and then discontinuing them to taunt fans.
Now, are they perfect?, No, but it's their job to dub the anime into English and release to a market to people who will appeal to, {e.g. a show like Bleach would appeal to a range of 13-16 yr old, whereas a show like Code Geass or Hokuto No Ken, is more suited for a 16+ audience. This isn't the 1980's, where a dubbing company could do whatever they wanted to do with a certain anime, it's 2010.
They still try to sneak stuff in, or in this case, out. A good example would be Kaleido Star: the dub has several noticeable cuts that they fortunately restored in the subbed version; but unfortunately they still retained some digital paint in certain episodes in both sub and dub.
Why bother buying the import version for more than $200 plus tax, when chances are you don't know what the holy hell they are talking about unless you have a decent knowledge of the Japanese language.
Which I do, to some extent.
And besides, in most box sets, if not all of them, there are options whether you want the dub version, or the original audio with subtitles. It's called marketing, maybe you should brush up on it.
As I said, they don't always do so. There was a firestorm a while back when Bandai Entertainment refused to release the original Japanese audio track on its DVDs of the show.
I don't know about a troll, but more like a butthurt anime purist who is stuck with a view that all American anime dubs are fail, and the original raw version is the best thing that happened in anime history. It's time to get with the times.
I don't oppose all dubs; I only oppose those which are deliberately inaccurate. Many North American dubs from the past 10 years are close enough to be tolerable, but there is always the prominent exception.
Hey, that's what we all want, to discuss anime and manga in an enlightened debate, rather than childish name calling and irrelevant talks about poop jokes and WW3 rants, metaphorically speaking.
Ditto that.
But there are times where even fans have an archaic view about anime, and how it should be treated. As some people mentioned before, dubbing companies try their best to keep as much as the original content as much as possible along with putting it in English where everyone can understand, and keep the original version intact for people who want it in Japanese.
Or so we think.
I don't recall that. As I stated before, the FBI has bigger things on its plate than an anime chick with boobs, or a tidal wave of blood in a fictional setting, the FCC maybe, but not the FBI.

Rainbow - Nisha rokubo no shichinin. This show hasn't finished it's run yet since it started this year, but there are 15 episodes out. It's very dramatic and touching, often brings me to the verge of tears. Also very addicting.

KK, will have a look into those.

Because it's soul-crushingly depressing, but very moving and powerful. One of my favorites.
I saw Now + Then Here + There not so long ago, yah ditto with the soul crushingly depressing D:. Also the ending confused me, but it was definitely a pretty decent series all in all, especially the earlier parts of it.

I watched the first ep shortly after it came out and really liked it, but I'd rather wait for it to finish (autumn-ish I guess?) then watch it in one go rather than having to wait a week to see each next ep. But still that's definitely on my list.

I saw Summer Wars, the new film by Mamoru Hosoda, the director of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, at the film festival the other day.
It was amazing.
I enjoyed The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, but I had some problems with its pacing which I felt kept it from being great. Summer Wars on the other hand is incredibly entertaining all the way through. It might be the most entertaining movie I've seen all year.
Plus there is a decent amount of social commentary, which adds some depth to the story.
With this film, Hosoda Mamoru is becoming one of my favourite directors.

I would suggest reading the manga instead. They're almost exactly the same, but I find that the manga has better pacing and doesn't ruin the plot twists for the reader. The anime had a bad habit of telling the viewer everything that was going to happen before it did, which killed the show.

I watched the first 5 minutes of the first episode and it was fucking mind numbingly retarded.. They were fighting over a sandwich or some shit, and the characters' eyes' were so big that they took half of their face. It seemed like a generic anime show, like it was parodying something.
I might try to watch this show again but i doubt that it will get good at any point.

Alright, bananabread, you should watch One Piece(Pirates that are awesome), Sgt. Frog(A frog race trys to invade earth, but instead makes friends with one of the humans, and from there, hes stuck on earth), Hikaru No Go(An anime about a kid whos soul gets taken over by a ghost who has wanted to play Go again for generations). Those are my recomendations. I highly recomend One Piece, because I watched Gurren, and I loved One Piece much more. Maybe Fullmetal stuff. Fullmetal Alchemist, Brotherhood, and Panic.

They actually did have an ending like that for the anime, but then they decided to continue the anime like they did with the manga.
The second half of Death Note wasn't bad, but it could have been a lot better. Near was extremely uninteresting and it really didn't start to get good untill the end. I still enjoy the ending, but the first half of the second segment was pretty dull. Also, whoever designed Mello did a really poor job, which is unfortunate since he was one of the better characters in the series.

Ooooo, creepy.
This is just another reason why I love this place. The members of the club I can relate to big time as far as opinions on more popular series go. It's like my mind has been read. Anywho I'm thinking about ditching out on Otakon plans and opting to go to the New York Anime Festival instead. I have friends that live in New York City so I can just crash with them instead of paying for a hotel, not to mention I think the admission fee is cheaper than Otakon (even though $75 for all three days IS a really good price). Being broke and unemployed in a place that has no open job opportunities around sucks. :\
Anywho I'm looking for a new series to watch. Got anything to recommend to someone that enjoyed series such as Kara no Kyoukai, Soul Eater, Fate/Stay Night, Black Lagoon, Cowboy Bebop, FLCL, Welcome to the NHK, Golden Boy, Hokuto no Ken, and Great Teacher Onizuka (just to name a few)?
God tier? Lol last time I checked, it was called "You suck at this game."

I am one of the few people who enjoy the second half of Death Note just as much as the first. Mello is probably my favorite character in the show, and i like Near too. I don't think the story gets any weaker, and a lot of the fangirls think that the second half sucks just because they thought L was hot and he wasn't in the show anymore, which is stupid.

Mello was interesting because he did things differently from other characters in the show. I like how he took the chaotic approach rather than the lawful way of catching Light. Unfortunatly they made Mello look extremely flamboyant, which ruined him a bit.
and i like Near too.
To me, Near was an exact copy of L which made him very uninteresting to watch. It would have been better if they came up with a more original character.

Yeah, too many people like the show because of L. He was my favourite character, but he didn't completly make the show for me.

Read the Manga instead, the manga is excellent and it's far ahead of the anime in the plot
Also, seeing as I was banned for 2 weeks I've had a lot of time to actually watch some anime.
I finished Yu Yu Hakusho which was a bittersweet experience
I started Soul Eater and am at episode 10 now
I also read some more manga, finishing Rurouni Kenshin ( I read the whole thing in a week) and getting back on track with Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.

I do read the manga, that's why I want them to try and do the anime again, because there's so much more story and even the story the anime did cover wasn't done very well. Also some of the funniest parts come after where the anime ended.

That's actually a pretty amazing deal. I think my best deal was like $15 for a Trigun box set. It was just my luck that they were about to just trash it because almost everyone in my area is too indulged in pop culture to give two shits about anime or manga so nobody would buy it and they needed more shelf room. That's how I scored a box set for $15.
In an unrelated note, soma for some reason I'm drawn to your signature. It's probably because I could picture Skwisgaar describing something as "dildos" so I can admire the humor to it. Either way, nice sig, lol. xD

And like some organization told him hes the guardian or some ****. Any ideas? I do think it was a capcom anime but I forget. Tell me! I know you Otakus out there know what I am talking about!!!

I think Bleach is a shitty anime with a great concept behind it. I have watched all the episodes released and read all the manga released so I obviously like it; but I like it in the same way a smoker likes cigarettes or a crackhead likes crack. I like it for the same reason I like Naruto.
The big problem that I have with these series is that they develop them in to like 600 episodes and they are rushing all there ideas. They focus on quantity rather then quality. If I was the director I would end the series after a couple of season and just spend a good chunk of time creating those two seasons.
I would never name anything like One Piece, Naruto, or Bleach as one of my favorite anime's because there is no end to them and all of there ideas become stale. I think some of the best shows actually end when they run out of interesting material like FLCL, NGE, and Bokurano. I think most people would agree that when it becomes more about the money then the ideas the anime goes to shit.

Long story short, you can't compare One Piece to Bleach.
Yes you can, though I think a comparison to the likes of DBZ and Naruto is probably more justifiable. Either way, it's all aimed at 12 year old boys.
