I'm not sure about Akira.
It's amazing visually, of course, but it's the narrative which I'm not sure about.
I'm just not sure that it really makes sense, after all they cut out from the manga.

Well just finished Speed Grapher and it was throughly disappointing. Great for the first couple episodes, but it just goes downhill afterwards.
Also got through the second disc of GetBackers; still cliche, still horrendous dubbing.

LOL
I preferred the Manga, since the buildup wasn't so huge and the conclusion wasn't as lame/ambiguous.
Also, a more general question:
Does the Bookndocks, count as anime since McGruder uses the same style as anime? Especially the fight scenes, those are amazing.

I watched Akira a few weeks ago, i laughed when the guy lost control of his powers and i noticed what South Park was referencing in one of their episodes.
I also started watching berserk yesterday, it´s good.

Using the japanese style does not qualify it as anime.

Well, parts of the second season were done by Madhouse, so you could consider it partially anime.
Still, a funny series.

Yup, one could say the art is INSPIRED by anime, or it's art is anime-style, but if it ain't made in Japan, it ain't anime.

Yeah, I don't consider it anime either. (LOL, I never said my view on it, so some of the less intelligent here just assumed that I thought it was anime)
My cousin does, and I yell at her every time she says that.

Interestingly enough, I just watched Afro Samurai, and was about to post about it.
It was alright. Entertaining enough, but it suffered because of its high level of violence.
The ridiculous streams of blood made it really unrealistic, and thus the deaths never really felt like they had much weight to them.
Also, Afro Samurai was pretty much a horrible person with no admirable purpose, so I found it extremely hard to root for him. Or anyone, really.
About anime based games, I hear some of the Naruto games are pretty good.

I played Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm, surprisingly it was alright. I'd buy it if it was 19 bucks.

A bunch of the Dragonball Z games are pretty decent too.
The YuYuHakusho game was too complicated to play in one sitting (since I didn't own it), but it seemed to pretty much be the same as the DBZ games.

He didn't seem to have that bad a childhood.
His father was killed, sure, but then he was taken in by some pretty nice people.
He didn't have to become the number 2.
He was just blindly pursuing the less than admirable goal of revenge, and never redeems himself.

Welcome to the plot of 99.9% of samurai flicks. Not to mention "less than admirable" is a poor choice of words since the poor bastard saw his father get fucking decapitated as a child, I think that's decent motive for revenge.
Plus, expecting a well-written plot from something called "Afro Samurai" is sort of beyond foolish.

It's not that the motive is less than admirable.
It's the revenge itself.
The fact that he's killing all these people just to get revenge is horrible.

Well, I would agree and say that Afro Samurai was decent at best, but the fact that it has Samuel L. Jackson as the two main characters made it awesome. Actually, the whole ninja-ninja bit was cool, cause he was like an opposite or something.
