Yes, happened to me during Eureka Seven (shortly before giving up on watching the show on TV).

Exactly.

My friend has decided to pass on his copy of The Slayers season one to me, so I shall soon have even more anime to neglect for months and then only watch one or twice.

Don't get me wrong, I fucking love Slayers, but I rarely touch my DVDs, with the exception of a few movies, concert DVDs and TV shows (particularly House, Law & Order: CI and Cowboy Bebop).

In fact, I just got around to giving my copy of 300 a watch (great film, but far better on the big screen) after having had it since the week it was released.

300 was a terrible film.

It was inherently racist, and it played out like a videogame.

That I will not challenge.

The fade to black during the scene where one of Xerxes' men bribes the elders was totally offensive (since the only element shown as completely black before the fade is the man's skin, to the point where his facial features are literally invisible) and the stereotypical "evil black man" voices got a bit grating.

Also, notice how the East Asian soldiers had long mustaches and fought using "magic"? The Yellow Peril, anyone?

That's typical Hollywood action shit, though.

The villains in any sort of swords and gore epic have to be hideous freaks and the heroes have to be buff and white.

There's also the fact that they completely shat all over the image of Xerxes, which quite rightly pissed off Iranians.

Fuck off.

It's a visually arresting and entertaining film, but Kuro's complaints are entirely valid, since the film follows an unrealistic formula and is racist.

Yup, and there's also the fact that Frank Miller's graphic novel did not depict any "monstrous" soldiers.

So on top of being blatantly racist and historically inaccurate, it can't even adapt its source material properly.

Who would have thought Hollywood would actually tack racist content on to a film that was already likely to piss off a fair deal of people?

The graphic novel was reasonably boring, but I didn't hate it as much as I did the film.

Hollywood is clearly oblivious to such thoughts.

I planned on buying it before seeing the film, but I read it and decided by $35 was better spent elsewhere.

Frank Miller can do better than that, so it's sad to see that this is his big "popular" work now. Here's hoping the upcoming Sin City sequel will remind people of his greatness.

Hollywood is clearly oblivious to such thoughts.

Boatloads of unneeded racism + CGI violence + Gerard Butler = profit?

Spoilers!

Claymore is finally over. It's almost a cop out ending, but it does make sense. Basically all the episode was about was Clare fighting Priscilla, and nearly awaking fully in the process. Clare couldn't land a single blow on Priscilla, until she thinks of Teresa, and scares the shit out of her; resulting in Clare landing a harsh blow on Priscilla, cutting her wings, and her plummeting to earth. Priscilla, scared shitless that she's about to get killed, reverts back to her human disguise, and awaits the final blow. Clarefinds Priscilla, and when she's about to kill her, she is stopped by Raki (faggot). But Clare actually comes to her senses, and ignores his faggotry. Just when Clare pushes Raki away to kill Priscilla, Jeane blocks the way. Her is where the ending almost redeems itself, since Jeane is one of the more awesome characters, it's natural that she becomes the big hero. Jeane releases her Yomi to help Clare revert back to her unawakened state. Jeane doesn't live ofcourse, which is brutal; but Clare decides not to kill Priscilla, and instead mourn Jeane. Easley shows up, and rescues Priscilla, then leaves. The surviving Claymore all go there separate ways. End. Such a cop out ending, but decent series overall.

End Spoilers.

The fact that you can count to a billion easily is amazing in itself.

I could count to over a decillion (10^33) in English if I had the time. Sadly, I can only count to five in Japanese.
Now for something completely different - my parents are switching from Time Warner to WOW, which means The Anime Network will be added to my list of channels at the cost of AZN TV, the Military Channel, and WUAB. I'm not sure exactly when the new cable boxes will be installed (we're kinda waiting for Time Warner to bury a new cable line in my backyard), but I know that having TAN 24/7 will be worth the wait.

Ichi, ni, san, shi, go, roku, shichi, hachi, kyu, ju, ju ichi, ju ni, ju san, ju yon, ju go, ju roku, ju nana, ju hachi, ju kyu, ni ju, etc.

Then it's 'hyaku' for 'hundred', 'sen' for 'thousand', 'man' for 'ten thousand', and then it skips a shitload and goes to 'oku' for 'one hundred million', and then 'cho' for 'one trillion'.

As a total fanboy of a certian Shojo Anime/Manga/Movie it's 'nana' for seven, AND I WILL ACCEPT NOTHING ELSE! Tough, you pass for using 'ju nana' for 17. STILL, Nana=Seven.

I've learned that it is 'shichi' in single digits.

Though I very rarely need to use single digits in speech (when written down it just has the kanji, of which is obviously the same for both pronunciations), so I could be wrong.

I remember watching an episode of Heroes where the Japanese office workers were exercising on the rooftop while counting to eight, and I believe they did say "shichi" at seven.
