So, how long were thoes viruses sitting on your computer? If they were sitting on there for a few hours or even a few days or longer. Then they could have messed up or corrupted files/folders etc. Now since there are several major problems with your computer i will go with my gut feeling and say it may have destroyed some important files.

First thing to try with such a thing is system restore, as explained below:

Log on to Windows as Administrator.
Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore. System Restore starts.
On the Welcome to System Restore page, click Restore my computer to an earlier time (if it is not already selected), and then click Next.
On the Select a Restore Point page, click the most recent system restore point in the On this list, click a restore point list, and then click Next.

Note A System Restore message may appear that lists configuration changes that System Restore will make. Click OK.
On the Confirm Restore Point Selection page, click Next. System Restore restores the previous Windows XP configuration, and then restarts the computer.
Log on to the computer as Administrator. The System Restore Restoration Complete page is displayed.
Click OK.
If you successfully restored your computer to a previous state, and the computer is performing as it should be, you are finished.

If the restore process completed successfully but the computer is still not performing as you want, go to the "How to undo a system restoration after you perform a System Restore" section. If you received an error message and the restore process did not finish, or if you cannot run System Restore, go to the "Next Steps" section.

I hope it helps, if you have a question or comment fell free to ask.

I have no clue, i havent ran the scanners in a few months. But avast! does have a background scanner which detects any viruses trying to enter my computah. But it crapped on me earlier, could only boot in safe mode, turned out my virus scanner was corrupted and it was a trojan from combat arms.

Damn you Tom for those bigass ads!
First thing to try with such a thing is system restore, as explained below:

It says it needs the hard drive for its own use, and can only be used after a restart. But it is a matter of luck whether or not i can get into the menu where i can select VGA-mode.

I hope it helps, if you have a question or comment fell free to ask.

Thanks for trying, gonna take it to my IT-pro friend. He will test shit out and i will hope he fixes it.

Insert witty, stolen sig here.

I've replaced the PSU, the motherboard, and the CPU... and my computer still won't beep or POST. I am completely clueless now to what the problem could be. I have no idea what to do.

I've been refurbished and reissued, prepackaged and precooked, decontaminated and deloused, but I still smell, sound, look and feel like shit.

SInce you have eliminated meny of the options that could have been the cause of the problem and were not. Then if you have a bestbuy near you, they usualy have a Geeksquad inside where you can take it to. They usualy won't charge to much for a look and examination of your computer and then if they find a problem they should be able to fix it.

Did you try one RAM stick at a time on each of the slots? But if you've tried everything, then that means your case is shortcircuiting something or your push-power button on your case is failing. Take it all out and reassemble on a table if you have an extra switch. You should be able to power up your comp if you just stick a wire in the appropriate slots.

I've been having trouble running resource-intensive processes and games. I believe the problem would be that my computer wouldn't be using enough RAM. I know that my computer can recognize it, because it's being displayed properly. Although it's never used where it's needed.

Put the whole thing on my userpage. Sorry if this problem is quite common.

Make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card installed.

Otherwise, it could be that you've set up your RAM improperly. Are you using all the slots? This can cause instability. Same can happen if you mix brands.

For the video card, I've already done that. I'm pretty sure I have just a single 2GB memory stick, though I'll check to make sure. I didn't think I would receive help so quickly, and I'll try it.

The max I've seen an application or game use is 700MB in the task manager so don't worry if it uses less. If you want you can get software that cleans your RAM. I can't remember the specific program that I was going to recommend, but there a multitude of RAM cleaning programs out there.

False info. Using less slots does not increase instability. Neither does brand type.

Really? Because I seem quite dissatisfied with my gaming performance. I can barely crank out 15fps in UT3 with the LOWEST settings. Surely when some people are concerned about not having 60fps with high graphical settings, SOMETHING is wrong. Not that I desire 60fps though, I really don't see how people aren't satisfied with 20+.

I'll do a google search on efficient RAM cleaning programs, and try again.

Since I don't have much options, I might as well check anyways. Thanks for the help, you guys respond quickly.

I'm trying to connect my laptop (which picks up wireless internet) to my new pc, which doesn't.
My PC downstairs is hooked up to a wireless modem, which is where i get my connection from, and I want to use my laptop to get a connection on my new PC.
How do I get this done? I have a crossover cable, but when i plug it in, it just gives me an error on the pc saying that there may be limited to no connection, yet says its connected on the laptop.

shared file and folder permissions are set to allow.

my netbook and desktop's drives are visible to each other over the network so i don't see what the problem is. any help would be gratefully received.

putting Linux Mint on the nebook but just in case things don't work well, need to restore the image.

Hello! bin a long time since i was on newgrounds but couldn't think of anywhere better to help me than this thread from what i remember.

I have a .iso file which im trying to trandfer to my new laptop. Don't have anything to burn it onto right now and i don't have the means to transfer it any other way currently because of its size. So, is there a way to split a .iso file into two parts? I did some research online but everything i came up with is DVD related but its not an image of a DVD.

I actually have a hardware issue that I would like to fix on my own. I have an old out-of-warranty gateway laptop, an NX570SERIES, it's a refurbish I got after cashing in on accidental damage on the previous laptop. Obvious I could care less on voiding anything.

It is having trouble charging. It's not the battery or the adapter, it is the connection within the computer (I guess the female end of the adapter, where you plug it into the computer) it has been losing connectivity progressively over the last few months, to the point where I need to hold the laptop up on my lap at an angle, to mash the adapter harder into it, and spin it around a bit to get it to stay just right to keep it connected to the power source.

Gateway won't allow me to send it in to get a replacement whatever it is it needs (power supply?), so I figure I may as well learn what happens inside a computer.

So, what exactly is this part I'm looking for? Gateway support linked me to this funky support information, but the part numbers and names mean nothing to me, how do I know I'm not just buying a new wall charger?

If it's not on that list, how would I go about finding it online?

it is common to replace the DC plug on the laptop, with soldering.
personally i don't do it myself, i think you get the replacement part from another electronic with the same power rating or from radio shack.

i simple solution is to use a external battery charger.

I wasn't sure where to put this.. so its here.
Yesterday my pc wasn't booting properly( i was using win7) so after countless boots, i reinstalled vista(i dont have the win7 disk) and then upgraded it to win7 and deleted the other os with easy bcd. Now i have 3 program files on my c drive! one from my orginal installation(all my cool apps) and the other two from the vista and 7.
Although all work fine, I would like to merge all thease files becuase of fuctionality eg: i cant search for any of my programs on start bar,
I went to our school tech(pretty useless) and he told me that it could be done but all my apps have to have been used so it is saved in the registary they have so now how do i go about merging them? i have tried copy paste. I need a solution a.s.a.p
also my win7 aero features no longer work... why?
Thanks in advance.

Having a few nightmares with a Ubuntu 8.10 system.

Install went well. Had to configure wireless.

Sometimes crashes occur. Here's a pastebin of one: http://astei.pastebin.com/f4ffeaa48 (firefox paging problems, ignore dbus stuff)

Typing can be slow, like on Facebook.

The funny thing is: the thing did come with Linux! (Linspire Five-O)

Just help, OK?

I'll bet you'll need dpkg -l too, so here it is: http://astei.pastebin.com/f5f791f1b

I'm cool with soldering (I assembled electronics this summer), but where would I go about figuring out the power rating/part number of the piece? Will I need to tear the part out of the computer to do so?

See when i first log on to it i only have about 1 miniute to get on all my programs that i need to get before itll freeze and ill have to log out. I cant click the backround of the program or itll freeze, including the toolbar or any other part of the desktop backround.

It says for some odd reason to many 32 or 64 bit programs are currently running and im like WHAT??? It makes no sense it has never done this before

I believe this is 100% NOT A VIRUS cause i keep running scans, ccleaner, defraggler and any other programs i can find and ITS STILL NOT WORKING!

It runs perfecty i have no idea whats a matter with it

Everytime I google something, and I click on any link, it keeps re-directing me to somewhere else, and it's always the same page! And I did do a virus scan/spyware scan/, but it still didn't detect it. I used Spybot Search and destroy, avg (full product), spyware scanner by crawler, and another one I can't think of the name at the moment. And It just recovered from 'Windows Police Pro' and 2 other viruses. And I'm pretty sure those viruses that I had, messed with my registry and windows files. So any help would be appreciated :3

I had the same thing a few months back on my laptop. I fixed it by booting into safe mode (F8 before windows scroll bar boot up screen) and doing a system restore to before the computer started acting strangly.

Well I posted this in Wi/Ht, but i'll try here too see if i can get some results.

Ok, this is my problem, There are many times when Newgrounds just stops working for me. The pages refuse to load, no matter what I do. These down moments were happening every 10-15 minutes, but within the last couple of weeks it has gone up to 40-45 minutes. Each down time lasts 5-10 minutes.

I can tell when I am about to go down, it happens in steps. the first step is some icons(user levels, or medals on userpages etc) stop loading. it just leaves blank space. the next thing to go, is any picture that is posted on the BBS, they refuse to load, which leaves a large blank spot between posts. After that happens, Newgrounds just stops loading completely. I get the Error "This connection has been reset", and on chrome I get "The Website Newgrounds.com does not exist".

some information that may help this problem

OS: Windows 7
Browsers Effected: FireFox, Chrome, Internet explorer ( I haven't tried other browsers)
if needed any other information i will post, just ask.

Things that make this weird,

When Newgrounds goes down, I can still Ping the site and get a response, and if I load Newgrounds in a proxy, it works then too.

I tried disabling my firewall, to see if that would stop the down time, but it didn't. with firewall down, i still couldn't access Newgrounds.

This only happens with newgrounds.com, no other website. Any help would be appreciated.
