Did you try to do a system restore? Here if you need to know how.

Open System Restore by clicking the Start button , clicking All Programs, clicking Accessories, clicking System Tools, and then clicking System Restore.%u200D If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Before you start System Restore, save any open files and close all programs. System Restore will restart your computer.

System Restore automatically recommends the most recent restore point created before a significant change, such as installing a program. You can also choose from a list of restore points. Try using restore points created just before the date and time you started noticing problems.

So you may loose some files if they were not there of the time of the restore point.

If this does not work i would shut down the computer :::so the virus can not progress any further::: and bring it in to a geek squad or something similar near you.

There was only one restore point, and it was after the virus.

If that is the case and you cant run a virus checker such as AVG free or *shudder* Norton anti-virus then you should consider backing up all important cant bear to lose files to an external media source such as a dvd or external harddrive and then wipe your computer to its original settings.

To do this you can either *depending on manufacturer* press one of the F keys or the del key before the windows loading screen comes up and this should take you to the restore screen, Simply follow the instructions. If this is not the case then your computer probaly came with a restore cd that you can just pop in the drive before windows boots and get it to boot from there

If you have any problems feel free to ask

The simple do it yourself solution (last resort) is to backup your data, reformat and reinstall your OS.

A qualified computer technician can remove 99% of all viruses and infections and repair the windows registry without reinstalling windows.

For the odd 1% of virus infections where windows is actually damaged, a technician will backup all your data and application data, reinstall windows then all you have to do is install your applications.
After reinstalling your applications you will not notice a difference since all your data, history and user settings was backed up.

So, I got this VirusDoctor pop-up in my browser, I searched my entire computer, ran AVG, and no files were found with it. Am I infected? Or was it just a pop-up?

Since you have scanned with AVG then I would say you are in the clear. Since its just a pop-up then usually they don't get installed until you actually click on it.

If you want to be safe though you could check out the programs in my newspost, they are great for getting rid of spyware and stuff "which could be" installed by pop-ups :)

My computer is shutting down unexpectedly but the GUI is still running!

Symptoms:
* Avira Guard stops and cannot be enabled
* MSVC++ runtime error in gswui.exe (GesWall)
* Task Manager won't run
* Most functions disabled

I think overheating may be the problem. I have a laptop fan somewhere but I can't find it - I'll try to find it and try it.

If that won't work I'm going to run a scan.

Is there any way for fix up my completely messed up comp I can't use or haven't used in a while.

Problems before extreme mess up:
tool bars at bottom stopped appearing.
USB port was unusable
CD and DVD's were read as already having data on them
Unable to update ipod

after mess up:
comp refuses to start up when you log in and auto force you out
extremely loud and painful sine sound when comp starts up

Dad let me borrow his laptop and I don't enjoy these well, anyone have any solutions?

i can only think of two things right off the top of my head for loud sounds.

1. the hard drive is scratching the heads on the plate.
2. motherboard beep codes (not that loud)

My other computer always pops this thing up. It says something like 'Windows cannot start up, this could be because it shut down blah blah blah' But it comes up with Start with:

Safe Mode
Some other Safe Mode
Another Safe Mode
Last working settings
Start windows normally

I've tried every single one, but they always lead back to the same screen. Any help?

your operating system (OS) maybe corrupted,
to fix a corrupted OS you need to reformat and reinstall your OS.
be sure to backup your data before doing so.

bring your computer to a qualified computer technician to test your computers hardware and to verify if it is corrupted or just a virus. if it is corrupted, the technician will backup all your data. restore/reinstall your OS and place your data back were it was. the data backup my include application data and user sets so after you reinstall your applications you wont notice a change from before. virus scans of your data is normally included.

It would be hard to say, the process it's self could take a few hours to do. If he is busy you might be waiting a few days or even a week. Really this is just a guss.

Ok, just sounds like that you have had a virus and that you left it on long enough to do some damage to your computer that have caused these probelms.

Here is how to do it, if you have any questions just feel free to ask.

Log on to Windows as Administrator.
Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore. System Restore starts.
On the Welcome to System Restore page, click Restore my computer to an earlier time (if it is not already selected), and then click Next.
On the Select a Restore Point page, click the most recent system restore point in the On this list, click a restore point list, and then click Next.

Note A System Restore message may appear that lists configuration changes that System Restore will make. Click OK.
On the Confirm Restore Point Selection page, click Next. System Restore restores the previous Windows XP configuration, and then restarts the computer.
Log on to the computer as Administrator. The System Restore Restoration Complete page is displayed.

I have an HP pavillion desktop PC, The fan that goes into my power supply isn't spinning.
1.) Is it supposed to spin at all times?
2.) Is it a horrible thing if it isn't spinning?
3.) Is there any trouble shooting for trying to quick fix it?
4.) How hard is it to replace?

the fan of a power supply does spin all the time.

2.) Is it a horrible thing if it isn't spinning?

no, most low wattage power supplies don't have a fan.

3.) Is there any trouble shooting for trying to quick fix it?

replace it, don't fix it

4.) How hard is it to replace?

i don't recommend you tiring to open your power supply on the count that you can kill yourself. replacing the hole power supply is easy and would most likely be better than the one that came with the computer.

If I take my whole tower to BestBuy will they replace it for me, or at least tell me exactly what to buy? I looked online for the model number of my power supply and it wasn't anywhere to be found. Very Similar models were out there but they looked different enough that I wouldn't order them without a specialist telling me they would work.

You can take it to bestbuy and you would find the section of the store that has the geeksquad in it. You just Tell them your problem and they can usualy fix it for you :::for some money of course:::. They are usualy really good at what they do so they can probaly tell you all about your computer just from looking at it, so no need to worry about any of that. Again, It was said that it does not even spin all of the time so it may not even be that big of deal.

So my PC shit out on me the other day after the power went out. It isn't the first time this has happened. The power has gone out and it causes the power supply to flicker, and the PC to shut on and off a few times before starting up. It was doing that for a few months, finally it just kicked the bucket and the PSU didn't even want to fully power it up. It just flickered and the fans were barely moving. No matter what, it wouldn't turn on.

I figured it was the PSU, so I got a new one. Plugged that in, and that wasn't the problem. I even plugged in my old PSU and alas, it actually powered it up and got the fans working and it wasn't flickering anymore. No idea why it suddenly worked, but after this I learned it wasn't a PSU problem.

So now, it will power on. The fans move, the light on the motherboard lights up, the dvd tray opens and closes... But it doesn't POST. It doesn't make any beeping sounds either.

I've tried everything I could think of. I removed the ram and started it up, still no beeps. Removed the CPU and checked it out for any physical damages, but saw nothing (it could still be friend though.) Took off the graphics card, put it back, no beeps ever happened. I took out the mobo's battery for a while and put it back in, didn't make a difference.

I assume that I probably have a dead motherboard... I actually already ordered a new one off newegg, so I really fucking hope it's my motherboard's problem. My only other concern is it might be the CPU, but if I'm not getting any beeping sounds, it HAS to be the motherboard, right? A fried CPU isn't going to cause that, I wouldn't think.

And of course, my biggest fear is it's not just the motherboard, but I fried the whole fucking thing. I won't know until I have the new mobo to test it out.

Point is, has anyone ever experienced this before? Anyone have any insight on what it might be, or troubleshooting solutions I can do to narrow things down?

I've been refurbished and reissued, prepackaged and precooked, decontaminated and deloused, but I still smell, sound, look and feel like shit.

Ya, prolly your mobo. Only other thing to try is if you have an extra CPU you can swap. But if it doesn't beep at all, it indicates a mobo problem.

As I'd said in your other thread, the button cell battery on your motherboard is probably dead.

Otherwise, you might have a bad connection from the PSU to the motherboard - check and make sure.

Got the new mobo in today. Installed in. Booted up the PC. Still no POST, no motherboard beep sound, nothing. It's still doing exactly what it was doing with my other motherboard.

I thought if the fucking mobo didn't beep, it was a motherboard problem. What the hell else could be causing it to not POST and make a beep? I have two different power supplies to use, so it can't be them.

The only thing I can think of is the CPU, but wouldn't the motherboard still beep even if the CPU was dead?

Yes it should still beep as far as I can tell. The only other thing I can suggest is to make sure you plugged in the 8pin CPU power. Or for a long shot maybe there's something in your case that is short circuiting so remove all your components from the case.

With your new mobo, your manual should tell you troubleshooting if it doesn't beep.

I've been looking it up online, and I'm seeing a lot of people reporting how their mobo's wouldn't beep, so they assumed it was dead and they would replace it, and found that wasn't the problem. A lot of these people ended up finding out it was a CPU problem the entire time.

And it could very well be my CPU, because after my power outage my PSU was flickering and not able to fully power up my system, so my fans weren't moving very quickly. All it takes is 30 seconds for the CPU to fry without a fan, and I'm pretty sure it was much longer than that.

So, i was just surfing on the net, and my screen shut down, and said 'No signal Analog.' I thought wtf, i shut it down and started it up again. On the booting screen there is a random assload of letters, smiley faces and grave crosses. So, i booted it up in safemode, ran dxdiag, it said that directdraw and 3d acceleration are not usable. Windows, by default, shuts those off in safe mode. Thinking 'better safe than sorry,' i updated DirectX and the graphics card drivers. No good. Then i tried to download BIOS updates, but firefox keeps crashing whenever i go to a page with a lot of graphics. In fact, i am typing this in the library. The video card is a Nvidia FX 5200, Award BIOS, and it is a Packard Bell.

I cannot download that bios update, because my dad thinks the memory stick that i havent inserted into my computer in a few months is full of viruses.

And i ran Avast and F-secure online scanner, they found 5 viruses. Removed them, and still no luck.

Insert witty, stolen sig here.
