I've got a problem with my computer. The computer won't let me delete Windows media player 11 and revert back to WMP 10 (I need to try this to see if it will help my Zen Micro work-Windows media player 11 is know to cause calibration problems between the zen and the computer)

Everytime I try to Add/remove the program it's not allowed. The error message reads "It is not possible to revert back Windows media player because the files required to this uninstall" have already been deleted."

You guys have any ideas?

Okey, I've have a problem. I don't have a OS on my comp right now. And when i put in a Windows CD i get a blue screen that says, "Setup is starting windows". And thats all it does it would stand for days if i didn't turn it the comp off.
And when i try with LinuxMint nothing at all happends.
With Ubuntu (live CD) i got in to the OS with Safe Graphics but it said, "A bigger App.. didn't start do you wich to start another one. And i press yes i get to the logon screen. But i dont know the password.
With the Ubuntu (Not live CD) I choose to install then nothing happends just a Black screen it's there for hours.
I also tryed DSL (Damn Small Linux) But i got the same problem as on Ubuntu, (not the live cd).
Somebody have any ideas what i could try, or maybe something in my comp is broken.
Happy for answers, and sorry for language.

Actually it's pretty simple.
When you install a program, data is added to your registry, so the uninstaller later on will know what files to remove. If this data, or the uninstaller file got deleted manually by accident or on purpose, windows won't be able to uninstall the traditional way.

So what you need to do is replace these files, and the way to do it is to install WMP11 again. It will replace all the missing files, and then you'll be able to uninstall it.

Well, since it's a LiveCD that fucks up, and the windows CD fucks up, I would guess that it was CD related. So is your cd/dvd rom up to date and functional? How fast were you burning these CDs? I've had problems with my linux discs for burning too fast onto cheaper media. Try a slower burning speed next time.

Have you run any scans on your hard drives? It's possible they have (a) bad sector(s) and need to be replaced or formatted around.

Any linux live CD will let you run fsck on an existing partition, and the Ultimate Boot CD will let you scan the hard drive for physical errors. Perhaps give them a try, if you decide your cd rom is good and your discs are burned properly.

I only want to read what is relevant to your problem.

.......zlob trojan... thats as detailed as i can fing get...

You have a trojan, called zlob. Ok. A trojan is a virus. You should run a virus scanner and remove it. There are tools for this sort of thing on the top post on each page.

Try this. It's an online virus scanner. No downloads required.

*sigh* understand? ffs idfk what a trojan does all i know is its bad and that anti virus demo said we should get rid of it but nooo that would involve buying the anti virus stuff... but just fing tell me how to get rid of it for free so i can start playing runescape again (im on strike from the good comp downstairs till its gone... and i kinda wanna play runescape - an mmorpg - b4 the halloween event goes bye bye) yeaa in any case... zlob trojan... cant u figure out something from that? pwease? *puppy dog eyes* anyways since u ppl r cranky and dont seem to fall for puppy dog eyes welll yeaaa.... pretty please with uhhhh *insert something - id say human kindness but as of late, past 5 months, ive noticed most humans are a little short on that - thatll get u to help me* on top?

I don't care about runescape, or the fact that you want to play it. It has nothing to do with your problem, which you've already stated. Don't ramble on and sigh about shit that doesn't matter here. Please.

btw that thing about human kindness isnt meant to be saying u, its just uhh im in a depression and well not goin into details but lets just say i dun have the best life =/ yea well best synopsis is my best friends and bf are all rs based and i really miss them (been w/o em since june)

How does your depression have anything to do with explaining that you have a virus?!

right well its a zlob trojan as ive said b4 thats all i know about it. there i kept it short. uhh sorta...

Well you also failed to mention which operating system you're on.. I'm assuming Windows XP but I could be wrong. You didn't run any of the anti-virus tools we list on EVERY page. Everything we link to is free. Please use them.

My apologies for being rude with you, but there are guidelines for this topic, and you have to follow them if you want to get the same treatment as everyone else.

Thx for the answer, I got found an old 24x cddrive and I got much closer.
I'm currently burning another Ubuntu cd in 6x to see if this work. If not i gonna check my Harddrives.
Or maybe buy another one (You never can get to many of them)

I have just a little problem... some times when I turn of my computer
appears the 'finalizing program' window
and it said:
"Finalizing program: Tray Window"
I wait for the computer to finalize it by his own.. but... when the time finishes it said... the programs doesn't work... 'Finalize' or 'Cancel' are the buttons...
when I click finalize it ends... but.. I still trying to figure what programs is that... because... I close all programs... all...

P.S.
sorry for my bad English
my computer is in Spanish... so... that are obviously not the exact word... but I don't know those words in English...

My computer keeps telling me that it's infected with the virus Worm.Win32.NetSky. I'm totally computer illiterate as far as finding the source. I can't change my wallpaper images anymore either (which is where the problem started) So now I keep getting this red wallpaper that says my privacy needs to be protected and on top of all that it keeps saying download all these different things that are suppose to help me remove the problem. but things are getting worse. I've also noticed a red circle with a white "X" in the middle. What can I do to stop this?

Here's my hijack log:

Under options on Daemon Tool's right click menu, do you have Automount enabled?
If not, try that.
If so, perhaps try reinstalling Daemon Tools. There was a new version came out fairly recently, which may fix your problem.

the last couple of days, while trying to visit the New York Times website, a scrip continues to keep shitting the bed.

it keeps saying that a script is not responding. I have to click the "stop script/continue" box about 3 times per page, while at the same time crippling my firefox until it comes up with the error message.

Doesn't seem to be doing it to my IE though.

any thoughts? is it a firefox thing?

It's the website's fault, not yours. Bad coding for cross-browser uniformity. Not much you can do other than use IE. Actuall, try this extension. It lets you render pages using IE from inside firefox with a single click.

Thanks for telling me. There are some spyware scanners and virus scanners I'd like you to run. They should clear up your problem pretty quickly.
Ad-Aware Spyware remover
Housecall online virus scanner

They are both free, and the virus scanner runs from your browser. Good luck.

What you have is a program that doesn't want to shut down with the computer. Sometimes that means spyware or a virus, other times it just means a program isn't working the way it should, and it's not a big deal. If the scanners do not work, then just keep trying to narrow it down.

Symantec has a netsky removal tool, here that might work. If not, try scanning using Housecall. It's free and online, so you don't have to install anything new to make it work.
Symantec recommends that before you run their removal tool you do two things:
1: Disconnect from the internet and any local network you are on
2: Diable your system restore (so the virus can't use it)
Then when your finished, restart and run the tool again to be sure, and re-enable your system restore.

Hopefully this answeres everyone's questions for a while.

Well, I installed Windows Media Player 11 again from the website and the same error message comes up anyway. Nothing changed :(

It's the website's fault, not yours. Bad coding for cross-browser uniformity. Not much you can do other than use IE. Actuall, try this extension. It lets you render pages using IE from inside firefox with a single click.

Well, glad to know that a major news website can disregard a chunk of their users.

either way, that is actually a great ad-on! It's so much easier than opening IE for anything

Thanks, Man!

Under options on Daemon Tool's right click menu, do you have Automount enabled?

yeah, it was already enabled.

If so, perhaps try reinstalling Daemon Tools. There was a new version came out fairly recently, which may fix your problem.

Alright , ill try the new version and see what it's like. thanks.

Alright, well then here's something else to try. This is an extremely useful program, but it will allow you (among other things) to uninstall windows media player entirely, allowing WMP10 to be installed just fine.

Have a look at XP-AntiSpy

I have this problem now:

Everytime I want to get on some random page, it shows the mesage "The page cannot be shown" (or however do you say it in your language) but its not on every page, I can get into Google and get search results, but when I click one of them, the message appears.

What's going on? Is that some kind of virus? I thought it was some filter but its not 'cause I can watch some porn pages (heh).

Help greatly appreciated.

Give me some examples of sites you cannot find. I'll try them on my end. It could easily just be that the page really doesn't exist.

You could also try a virus and spyware scan if you are worried.
http://trendmicro.com/housecall is a free online virus scanner, and if you download Lavasoft Ad-Aware you can do a free spyware scan on your computer.

It's easy. Open My Computer and navigate to the folder just above the one you want to share. Right-Click on the folder you want to share. It should have a Share Folder option, if not, go to Properties, and click on the Sharing tab. Enable the folder for sharing on your network, and allow other users to modify the files.

Then you can use the other computer and go to My Network Places to find it.
You can also use My Computer and type in \\name-of-other-pc to access anything shared on that computer. If you know its name.

Is there a limit to size of files that you can share with this method? Say that i have a 3.5 GB file, would this method work okay to move it between computers?

What exactly does that program do? How do I make it uninstall WMP 11? I checked all the boxes under the player functions tab and tried removing the program again and nothing changed. Sorry, but you are being kind of vague, since I don't really see how this program is going to help me. Plus, the site is mostly in german

The option to click it is greyed for some reason.

Yeah I know the name, it prompts for a username/password...any idea what the username could be?

The username is the account name you use on that computer, ie the name you click on at the sign on screen.

Sometimes you have to go to your Network Connections (through control panel usually) and on the left side you'll see a link about creating a home network. I'm not sure exactly what the next is. But Windows will sometimes make you go through this wizard before you can enable file sharing properly. Give that a shot. And yes, the username and password will be your account when you log into the computer.

It's coming to exam period and I'm going to have significantly less time on my hands until December 16th. And then I'll be going home for the holidays. So anyone who needs help, please don't be upset if your post isn't answered right away. I will still do my best to monitor this topic, but I can't let my grades slip because of it.

In closing, you expect reduced activity from me until the new year. Sorry for the inconvenience. To all you others helping out, I really appreciate it. Keep it up!

right...
i'm pretty shure my computers too old to repair.... nothing but harddrive's over a gig, and half of today's video processing at most.

can anyone give me a starting point for a new computer?
i've done a little research, and came up with this.

that's about as far as i'm allowed to go price-wise, unless i can prove that it can last through college (bout 4-6 year shelf-life?)
it doesnt need to play stuff at extreme settings, but it'd be nice if i could run orange box and Zbrush.

i don't mind building from scratch, but my parents would probably think i'd end up electrocuting myself...

thanks for any help you guys can give!

my art.,any requests?Art tech support!
pm me if i should start a webcomic. 10+ people think so!

Hello,

My computer is randomly getting the Blue Screen of Death wit the following error message:

NEL_INPAGE_DATA_ERROR

However, the words run off my screen, but I believe they actually say:

KERNEL_INPAGE_DATA_ERROR

Then there is a series of numbers along with some things about BIOS memory and such. I have no idea what to do... any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Post these numbers (something like 0x00000001).

What are you usually doing when this happens? Can you force these errors to occur? It sounds like it could be a bad block in your paging memory, possibly bad memory sticks. Basically, post as much information as you can get about your situation.

Let me try and walk you through testing your virtual memory. Maybe you have too little of it, or too little ram. I'm not using Windows so bear with me. Hopefully someone can step in and clarify what I'm saying if you do not understand. Forgive me if I'm just reiterating what you already know.

Go to start > control panel > system

In system, go to the advanced tab and under performance, click settings

In the performance window, click the advanced tab and at the bottom under virtual memory click change.

In the virtual memory settings, click no paging file and click set. Now click ok and exit out of everything and restart.

After the restart, do some maintenance, such as a disk defrag and disk cleanup then afterwards follow my steps to get back into the virtual memory window. This time click custom size. In the initial and max size, put in a value in mb that is 1.5 - 2 times the total ram you have installed in your machine (i.e. if you have 512mb of ram, put in a value between 768 - 1024).

These should be the same value in my opinion.

I feel like this is enough for now. Post back with results.
