I personally like the scores ..kind of a neat thing to look while the movie is loading. Though they are rather insignificant and if theyre just taking up space than I'd say delete em. Maybe there could be some other kind of system other than the reviews to sum up the movies ? hmhmm

Non-Flash users have no idea how much effort goes into a release, especially in the case of games. Something can be thrown together in days that can appear to have had months of effort put into it, and some things that take months can appear deceptively simple.

I'm a bit indecisive about that, it could simplify things, but if the object of reviews is to help authors improve and actually critic movies, they shouldn't it really be specific? I know we can still say as we like about whatever category in the actual review, but it would seem a bit of a hassle when we could simply state our mind through "1-10" kind of scores. I'm not sure if it's bad or good, but it might change reviews into a lot shorter ones, because people will simply review their overall views, rather go into details that might very well be helpful.

I'd do a test period, see how that works out, then make up my mind, good luck with that Tom.

Keep it how it is, but add an "other" category

Nah, pointless. With just an overall score to give, the rest can be explained in the body of the review.

So what will happen to the old reviews?

Response to Review Scores 2006-10-11 17:13:01

Sounds a little easier.

Go for it.

I think they stay. For example if the person didn't say anything thing that could help in the review, they can look at the most probale numbera box (i'll just say graphics).
It can tell that they need to improve in that.

I liked denvish's radio buttons idea.. I think theres no point in having a scale up to 10 though if we do the radio buttons. It seems unnecessarily wide.

You've already 'trained' users into accepting that 5 is the best and 0 is blam material.. no need to add more fluff and letting people review 1-10 and have the voting be 1-5..

no need to overcomplicate matters.

Does this mean that the 270+ reviews I've written over the years would be going in the garbage?

Response to Review Scores 2006-10-11 17:38:24

i was going to mention this a few months back when you were asking for suggestions, but thought "nah they'd have to change ALL the old reviews"

heres a thought.

Movies and game should have a sperate set of review criteriors. like for games, gameplay and all that stuff should get a mention.

Response to Review Scores 2006-10-11 17:39:47

What will you do with everyone's old review records if you do change it?

I like that idea,

Lose Humor, Interactivity, Violence.
They don't work well anymore. I could relly point out how on all three if you want

Put in Entertainment As Glaiel-Gamer suggested would be a better.
It would work for both movies and games.
I think it would be easier to rate how much you entertained, rather than the catagories that may not even apply to the submission such as the ones earlier named.

I don't think Originality would be a good choice though

Response to Review Scores 2006-10-11 17:45:48

Yes, that would be awesome...Because, if it isn't a really great movie, I'm not leaned into reviewing it, just because of the fact that I have to select 7 drop down boxes. It's really annoying, so I just end up not reviewing a lot more movies I would like to have. (lol, as you can see in my profile....I only have like 30)

So yes, this would be an AWESOME thing to do.... I would review a lot more....

You are right that the reveiws need to be siplified but i suggest keeping the graphics, sound and style selections. I doubt violence, humor or interactivity will be missed

nah, i like it the way it is

Response to Review Scores 2006-10-11 17:49:46

There seems to be some support of keeping the old system, so why not combine these two ideas? Leave the more detailed review critera in the process, but also only make the overall score required to submit the review for a flash. It seems like the best of both worlds.

Response to Review Scores 2006-10-11 17:49:59

I'd also like to see submissions under judgement with a score of 2 or less to be blammed.

Heck, maybe 2.5 or less to indicate a passing mark from the judgement stage.

Response to Review Scores 2006-10-11 17:50:13

Here's my opinion(becuase everyone really cares)
I think that the reviewing should be simplified because, at least in my case, the reason I dont review many submissions is becuase its too much of a hassle to go through all the dropdowns. I think that the reviewing should keep the seperate dropdowns but let the overall be the automatic average of the individual dropdowns. This of course would mean making the indivudual dropdowns dymaic and apply to the movie so if a user lists thier movie as a comedy with no violence, comedy would be present on the review dropdown and areas such as interactivity and violence wouldnt be there to lower the average.

I'm with it.

I've been getting tired of having to go through those other 6 dropdown boxes.

I love the idea, since I hated writing audio/flash reviews cause of the simple fact that I had to score something. I didn't mind typing the reviews, it was the scoring them that bugged me a lot.
