Sure you could clean up everything except the overall score, but there are still some areas such as sound and graphics that are still important when it comes to reviewing a submission. Maybe the only area that needs to be taken off is violence.

naw, I like to know specifically what the riviewer liked about my flash. He could have liked the content but thought that the graphics sucked ass. But, yeah, the violence part is utterly pointless.

I like the idea. I think it's weird to vote 0 on something like violence simply because none was in there, it makes the review seem negative. But voting 10 on something that wasn't there, it seems weird. Maybe there should be just quality, entertainment, sound, and overall.

I totally agree with this. Relevant and simple. One primary category (Overall) and three sub-categories based on whether or not the submission is a game or a video. However, graphics are a large part of a game, and should probably figure into the scoring somehow. Hmm, maybe four sub-categories? I would lean more towards not having optional review fields, just for the sake of standardization and K.I.S. (Keeping It Simple)

Whatever happens, this change has been sorely needed for a long time - it has my full support! (for what it's worth!)

I'd much rather be optimistic and wrong than pessimistic and right.

Make it optional. I like having different aspects of the Flash rated. If some people don't care for it then don't force them to fill it all out but many people leave well written reviews and it helps me to see what each catagory got in their reviews.

I think we should just keep Overall. Anyways, most people will talk about Graphics, Sounds and all that, in their review. So you can just tell by yourself what they think. And most of the people who won't talk about graphics, sound, interactivity... Will simply put 0 everywhere or 10 everywhere. So I think it's a good idea to keep Overall only

Solution: Merge Gameplay with Controls into one Gameplay (I don't care if it's innovative, if it plays like crap then it doesn't deserve a good score), and add Graphics, keeping it with 3.

I like that idea. I find that most of the score options seems irrelevant. Or if not that reduce the number of options to three, like "graphics, sound, overall" for example.

for someone who is learning flash i think that the individual scores can be very usefull because it shows them where they went wrong, but at the same time they are an annoyance to anyone leaving a review. it should be up to the reviewer to decide what they want to do, if an annimation had particulary good sound they should be able to put a 9 or a 10 for sound, or if the annimation was terible that information should be easy to provide as well. the way to do it would be to leave the system as it is, but not make it mandatory to fill in every category in order to submit the review.

It doesn't seem like anyone is really looking at the individual scores and they aren't being put to use elsewhere, so we're leaning towards just having the single OVERALL score. Instead of dealing with seven dropdown boxes, you can just write your review and pick a single number between 1 and 10 to represent your final opinion.

Thoughts?

i think the overall score should manatory and the indivaval should be optional

MY SUGGESSTION:

we dont need to remove the other drop dowm boxes.
just add a "not applicable" option in each
the "not applicable" score will not be computed for the overall rating.

if the movie or game has no violence,
rate "not applicable" for the violence...

no humor? "not applicable" also...

we dont need to change things... add things...

I don't know if someone wrote this, I think the graphics and sound could stay. The others have really no point, but these two can be scored by every work.

Please keep the seperate scores, but please clarify what each means. Sometimes I have difficulty finding which collumn should be for what part of the flash.
The scores could be revised into:
Graphics- leave it as it is
Style- Originality?
Sound- general enough
Violence- unless you can find something more general than Violence =/
Interactivity- same as violence
Humor- 'tis fine
So basically; either have a little pop-up or something that notifies people of what each category means, (like "Overall is not necessarily an average") or just revise them to make the theme of each more obvious.
Without the seperate categories, I would have to decide which gets a higher score: A pwnage flash wit lots of shootin and killin (Madness Series), or an Excellent flash that should be on tv (Broken Saints)

Obviously;

Good idea for the most part... but.... like GlaielGamer I would leave three or four (Entertaining, Audio, Style)their so the author knows what he did wrong or good without reading the review. Or maybe a check-box for them so violent movies can be rated correctly or a humorousmovie rated correctly. We all know if a movie tries to be gorry or funny, so that could work. :P

If we got rid of the seven other review...things the artist wouldnt no wut he would have to improve on and by how much cause that could make a problem for some artists cause they may not know what to improve on but those are just my thoughts

Let me expand on what I mean from the last post I made: If you submitted a movie to newgrounds and it gets blammed in the flash portal and the the only review you got was "work on it" what do you do? you have no idea what you need to improve on.
(not speaking from experience I have no intentions of making flash, not for a long time if ever)

I don't feel like reading all the pages for this, but I shall make my reply anyway, even though it's probably already been suggested.

I think, rather than removing them, just make them optional. So the only score required would be the overall score, and if you wanted too, you could add in the others as well. Though I agree that some should be changed or removed, such as violence. And possibly add a seperate optional ranking between music and sound. I figure, they don't really hurt anything, except that they can be annoying when they are required to be set, but an author may still find them to be useful, so why not just make them optional? Just an idea. ^^

I like where Glaiel was going with this, but I think the categories would still need work. Here's my take:

GAMES:

>Graphics
>Audio
>Gameplay/Controls
Originality
Overall

MOVIES:

Graphics
>Audio
Entertainment
Originality
Overall

As a content contributor, I feel like the categories are important for knowing what people liked about what I create. Some people are more able to put what they feel as a number than to put it to words.

The scores also need a change. Keep the 0-10, but add a "-" before the 0 so that if the reviewer doesn't want to score certain areas, they don't have to. Even in the "Overall" box - some people just want to give a person an honest critique without helping or hindering the review score and maintain neutrality. The benefit of the "-" will also help out when changed to the new system. The pre-existing reviews will have that set as the default in the new categories.

I think I'm agree with this...
When you're tired of make reviews you can put only a number and write some words, and then you got it...

But whit this I think that we lose some of the feeling of reviews (?)
I don't know... I mean, it's good vote in an expanded mode but now I'm thinking clearly and I say... To the hell with this, put a f**** number and screw you!
