Battlestar Galactica and modern... 2006-10-08 17:56:00 Reply

...polictics. ill tell you why.

1.) it was like what happened with the jews; they were wondering for ever, trying to find a home in the promised land (Earth), adn when they finally settle, they are sudenly attacked again in WWII (the Cyclon occupation of New Caprica). While in the Death camps, some Jews join the camp guards so they might be saved.

so thats a little bit of a long shot. small connections and odd connections dont ad up. but i have another theory

2.) modern politics. iraqis were forced out of land in Kuwait by the US(the first Cyclon attacks). Then when they think that their safe, they are attacked by the same enemy (Cyclon occupation of New Caprica). they then get issurgents and sucide bombers to attack.

now that one is also a little far fetched, but doesnt it sound much more like a explaination? think about it, then post what you think

Just like how when George Lucas wrote episode III of Starwars, he tried to make the Emperor look like George Bush.

Yay, Obama won. Let's thank his supporters:
-The compliant mainstream media for their pro-Obama propaganda.
-Black Panthers for their intimidation of voters.

You make similar claims with anything.

For example, the Borg on Startrek are the based off Hitler because the Borg is trying to assimilate and make the ultimate species like Hitler.

Another thing, the Jewish promise land wasn't Earth, it was the Holy Land.

PS. BG is gay.

i find it hard to believe that BG is taking everyday events to make the show, or making they're characters like our president. 'cept for star wars...i can see that. and it's modern....the original BG show didn't start airing till about like what...15-20 years ago? maybe more?

Take a peek at Wikipedia as to what they have to say about the connections to everyday life:

"The re-imagined show references many aspects of modern culture and the military. The original Cylon attack plays upon post-9/11 fears; frequent outbreaks of xenophobia and fear of Cylon "sleeper agents" mirror current fears of terrorist "sleeper cells" in Europe and North America."

Such is the way that television is created. Yes, I am also a geek. Who cares? There are a lot of geeks in the world, who gives a fuck?

Hey, I like the borg, shut up.

Anywho, many science fiction shows draw influences from history, especially star trek (the romulans are like the romans, the klingons are like the spartans etc)so I dont see any reason for BG not to make parralls.

[etc]

I don't know if the creator(s) of BattleStar Galactica was making an allegory of the Jewish people or not. If they (the creators) are hebrews, then it is very likely. If they aren't, it could be an allegory of just about anything. (Russian exiles, Cuban exiles, Arabian exiles, etc, etc).

I don't recall the Cylons being utterly defeated and destroyed for good. But then again I didn't see this series in such detail, so I wouldn't know for sure. Maybe all that the creators of BG wanted to do was to create a plot that was somewhat different (as opposed with the save the world/galaxy/universe kind of plot).

Oh you are talking about the new remake of BG... The old one was just there. But the new one, I don't like at all. They want to make it way too realistic, so realistic, it actually gets boring...

Hehe. Sorry. Nothing personal, couldn't resist.

Yes, I do believe BG is paralleling the real world. The writing is also a lot more... Daring and interesting than many sci-fi shows would be comfortable going.

I liked Farscape a lot more than either Battlestar Galactica. At least it wasn't boring, some weird stuff would always happen. In BG, it takes forever before ANYTHING at all happens. Stargate is just ok, nothing special. Though I loved the original movie of it. If you havent seen it, find it and see it.

I like Star Trek a lot, too. And Star Wars, no question on it, one of my favorite sagas of all time.
So yeah, BG isn't anything special. It closed down for some reason in the 80s, after all. I wonder how long the new one will last.
