NHL Team Names

We interrupt your regularly scheduled "War:Good or Awesome?" discussion to point out the following weird thingy.

Okay, so Canada has six NHL teams, right? You got the Ottawa Senators, Edmonton Oilers, and the Calgary Flames, okay? All fairly standard, baffling sports names.

But then you've got the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Vancouver Canucks, and the Montreal Canadiens.

Anyone notice anything weird?

Half of all of Canada's hockey teams are named after different words for Canadians! (I'm counting Maple Leafs since it is the national symbol.)

This seems more than a little strange to me. I mean, America has a hundred billion sports teams, and the only thing that comes close to this sort of bizarre naming pattern is the Houston Texans! (But, hey, it's Texas, what do you expect?)

Not that theres anything wrong with the names. Just a little weird.

So when will we see the Alberta Hoosiers?

i think your the idiot since the main point of the topic was to discuss ridiculous names in sports, i doubt he meant for the whole topic to be about the NHL.

howabout this in the CFL canadin foot ball legue we had (one team doent exist or changed there name or something) 2 teams with the same fUCKING NAME!? the ruffriders and they actuly had agame agased eachotehter....

and uhm there use to be a hocky team the qubec nordiques or something but i dun nno what a nordique is but they became the colorado avlanch
