I love the Audio Portal, and would like to know how the good techno tracks are made. For example: What program does ParagonX9 use to make those god-awsome loops?, Do you make sounds from scratch?, If so what is the best program to use?
I have ACID and i dont really like useing loops that other people made. How do I make my own sweet loops???
I know that is alot of questions, but I would really like to know.
Thanks,
A curious and slightly frustrated Happymilk.

Good GOD!
since you're so polite i'll be nice this once.
Paragon used reason 2.5 to make those tracks. Not sure of their exact methods, but i'm assuming that it was mostly written from scratch.
Acids a good programme for resampling, but to create sounds in the first place, reason 2.5 or above is far far superior. Not sure about the earlier versions, not aware of anyones works that used them.
What version of acid do you have? i'm assuming express....

logic pro = GOD
reason is good but you'd have to get really frickin good at it to be even close to paragon. if you don't have a mac, sure, get reason. but if you do have a mac and want possibly the best production program out now GET LOGIC PRO!!!
any program you get will require a shitload of work before you get something even worth listening to.

I've seen someone use an old version of logic, and it looked like an easier to use and understand version of cubase. This was a pc version though :S
I dont know why they went mac exclusive, i really dont see how it was in their best interests as a company in the long run.
Probably apple bought them out, and kept it quiet, but i dont really know

Hey, guys. Thanks for putting up with my questions. I had no idea that there were so many different ones to chose from... Alot of the ones on that list look like they require keyboards to use and I dont have one. Does Reason need a keyboard?

I used to use midi maestro, but wised up and started using FL studio with some sweet VSTs, such as vanguard, and the included synths. listen to my first 3 songs, they were ALL made using midi. You might be surprised how nice midi sounds with a creative sound card. I just started using FL studio 4 days ago and that is what my last song was made with.
Basically I recommend FL Studio 6 Pro., it includes enough synths and a piano roll to edit the VST and even the wav samples. So does ACID though. I haven't really experienced anything else besides those so that is a informative as I can be.

I swapped from Reason to Fruity Loops. I find FL easier to get around.

Fl studio can basically do everything Reason can do and I do believe people use Reason 3.0 more often now, but FL studio requires less time to get done with what you want to be done with while Reason takes longer to complete even the simple tasks. I learned some of this from Chronamut because I use FL studio, not Reason. For you since you are starting out I would recommend FL Studio because it will give you the basic principle of how to make the music and a keyboard is not required as it was previously mentioned. Try out the demo they have to offer for now and if you really like it look into buying it =)
Hope to hear music from you soon!

Listen you guys, FL Studio 6 is freaking hard to use ( and i've used it very little) so every now and then i will use it. If you are a newbie and just started making music, get the demo of every music creating program and test the ALL OUT! Stay away from FL unless you know what you are doing...

actually fl studio is the easiest program to use out of all the above mentioned.. its just.. it kinda sucks on its own.. if you listen to the demos even they brought in their own stuff.. me personally Im not a big fan of vstis.. I use them every now and then and I have a shitload of them just so if i wanna use them I can.. but I still don't use them that much. I like using fl tho because I can make midi in it. Then I usually rewire fl to reason and use Reason's amazingly realistic sound samples combined with my own soundfonts to make amazing songs.. while in fl I might add additional soundfonts and master it all pretty :P - you've heard the results.. its pretty good.
I've been able to do pretty good songs in either or. key of the twilight and tales of symphonia were done in fl to name a few.. and star stealing girl and crazy motercycle were done in reason.
Reason is better for more acoustic sounds.. but can sound a bit washed out.. fl is more solid and technoey feeling but harder to get that "organic" sound
also if you use fl I recommend getting some third party filters.. like new buzz effects. The only problem with fl being that you can run out of cpu FAST - then it starts robbing cpu from other open applications.. and NEVER copy and paste something from the events window while the song is playing - you'll freeze your song ><
reason's cpu limit is bigger sadly tho when you reach it itll just stop playing the song and say your computer is too slow to output the song while fl will still play it but itll be skippy or crackly.. depending on how big you set the buffer.
another fl advantage is that it can use vstis - reason cannot.. also reason cannot handle tempo changes and if you try using tempo changes in fl while rewired to reason reason will slingshot back and forth and itll sound really fucked up. Also automation wise in fl you really have to know what you're doing - reason involves a lotta "programming" of the filters and can be annoying..
so ya thats my advice for the day :P

Hah, I sorta argee with this guy, people say you gotta know what you're doing to be able to use Reason and that FL is for newbies, but it's like totally backwards mmaaann. I got Reason like in a couple of days and I've had FL for a year now and I still don't know what half of the shit does or how to operate it.

lol i had the hardest time using reason at first until dreamscaper shoqed me that you had to connect all the fucking devices.. there is another pain.. plugging and wiring all the devices together.. then you get a billion wires and you spend half the time figuring out WHICH wires connect to which..

There is an easy formula for it: input goes into output. TA DA! And in the end everything just has to merge into one wire that goes in the MIDI IN DEVICE, which is what the mixers are for. It's a lot like gay sex Chron, penis in butthole, input into output... if that helps you remember it any better ;-)

lol well DUH - the problem occurs when you have 100 devices and the wires all seem to merge in to a giant tangled MASS of wires and you cant tell WHAT connects to WHAT anymore..

Oh yea... well then try to be neat, or use more combinators... and when you select a single wire all the others go transparent so it's still easy to hook stuff up... I wouldn't say that a bunch of wires is really that big of a problem.

Follow the guys advice of trying demo's of all the programmes.
FL has a reputation for being the easiest, but its what YOU find easiest that matters, not what everyone else thinks.

Asking us what the best audio program out there is is like putting fighting fish into a one gallon tank and watch them fight it out until they're too bloody to continue and then throw in a dead cow fish as a means of euthanizing them peacefully... Follow the people's advice and choose the program that fits you best^_^

But thanks. I DL'ed an FL studio demo, and it seems simple enough. I wanna try out reason too cause it sounds like there are alot of pluses to both.
Thanks for all the input and support.

My, my, my... HAPPYMILK! You know what? You'd probably make great friends with Sadspoon and Cereal. You might even one day find ContentBowl and have yourself a love rectangle of breakfast goodness.

No lol, we were referring to the topic starter and you had just so happened to bring up reason and FL so I just kind of went over both, no disrespect was meant by that, sorry for the misunderstanding =)
