wow it's like the big gay (as in the happy gay not gay gay sorry chron) forum, everyone's all cheeful and spiffing darlings. Like one big love in. methinks this new modship thingymejig has really helped us all get along, we're being more responsible and tbh we're still having our fun, just in moderation.
so hugs for all.

I respect SpamWarrior, but only because I hate his guts. We don't get in eachothers ways and we don't conflict.

STFU N00B!
Lol j/k. I love you David. ;) (not really, but if I were gay I would) :O
Anyways, I agree with you on this whole "I'm better than you because of <reason>." stuff. Just because you have one thing that makes you more known or something doesn't mean you're better. Even if you are better, you don't have to be a jerk about it and use it as an argument.
At 10/6/06 02:28 AM, Erkie wrote:"I've been here on the forum longer than you, so respect your elders and shut up"Housemasta syndrome, he doesn't have much except that one sentence he doesn't really know how to use.
That's exactly what I thought when I read that post, because that's really how it all started to grow. I just remember HouseMasta saying that one day because someone called him a n00b and then it growing into a big argument about stats. It's stupid arguing and it shouldn't be occuring on the AF. I say if you wanna have a huge ego, take it to the General Forum.

Firstly Black Noise i was fricken proud when you told Andrew Parker where to go.
However I beilieve that this elitist crap needs to get flushed down the toilets of shit. The competition and quality of music on this site is the largest and to the highest caliber that I have ever seen. In many cases artists attack eachother in a variety of ways because they crave attention. Even negative attention attracts people. Some examples are Andrew Parker, New aged Chronamut and even PX9. I see through this crap personally, I know they simply want the attention because hell don't we all. Chron's stat threads are like Micheal Jacksons "child rapes" he just did it to get attention even if it was unwanted. You want to stop it let threads like that drop don't praise them no matter how much of, brand name they are if you don't like somthing about somone just stop listening. Just look at me as an example tons of peeps h8 me and now i couldn't get my trax heard if i was suddam fricken hussein. Thats Just my opinion Peace Syntrus Out (0_0)

Jesus, I should have stated I'd like to avoid playing the blame game here. There aren't only a few people who do this, so hitting on just a couple of people isn't really fair. I think we are ALL guilty of doing this at one time or another.
But at any rate, as long as we are all a little more aware of how our posts will come across, I don't think egos will be an issue. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with being confident with your work, either. I think it's important to be proud of your own work, but you need to keep yourself humble, too.

<off-penis> The punching glove is the worst avatar, I think. I only got to it just so I could get to my second favorite avater, the level 11 one. Its going to be impossible for me to get to my all time favorite one, which is level 25. The huge golden fist of doom-shits. <off-my-penis-lolz-dick>

I agree with #25 being my favorite. I think all of those gauntlet things are pretty cool though, so I'd be happy with any of them. Actually, I'd be happy anywhere other than level 10 or 12.

I don't post much on the forums here except for my audio ads and giving/receiving help but this thread urged me to give my two cents worth.
People are conceited here because of either them actually thinking they are gods great gift to the world, or because the fact they want more advertisement. To a person browsing the forum seeing a link to someone’s music on a random thread entitled "My shiz da bomb" or something of that nature, it is ones natural instinct to judge weather he is right or wrong. Anyone with half a year of experience with music programs and such can easily out perform one half of the uploaded audio files and because there’s such a problem with rating music on the audio music charts, clicking on a random piece of work and receiving something that is good or something you like is very unlikely. This makes the random clicker on the thread more apt to believe this composer is right about his statement. Another technique people do which I don't enjoy much is how people get off topic on threads here because they just want to get more posts on their profile. When a person might be browsing the forums and see John Doe had something to say on all of the threads, a person might just click his name or the link in his profile to see what this person is about. If you clicked on what this John Doe actually wrote in the forums for the past couple of days... you would probably find it was mostly stuff like "yea" or "no that’s cool". These have been my problems with the audio portal as well but for a long time I remained silent about it. I don’t plan on saying much more about it either because of the fact that things such as downloads, posts, user rank, and such are meaningless to me. The thing that matters to me is when I finish a song, I know that at least a few people will enjoy it and that is really all I could ask for. Good music on NG is searched for, not spammed and advertised all over the place.

The fact is, self-advertising isn't alright, it has it's applications, but not on every street corner.
There is a segregation between the AP and the AF, let's face that. It's one thing to have newbies coming in here wanting help and it's another to have the majority of traffic flow through here seeing that it's ok to whore.
I'd be for something as drastic as a ban for misplaced self-promotion, it'd clean up the sidewalks.
If you want to whore your music abilities, use one of our many contests.

It's no worse in the AF than some of the other forums. And to a certain extent, if you want to be a successful (ie paid) musician, you have to have a pretty big ego and be fairly pushy, since the music business has a history of being one of the most cut-throat industries there is. The real question regarding the behaviour on the forums, is who exactly are you trying to impress? AFAIK, there are no record company bosses or A&R men that hang out here - just some musicians and wannabe musicians - ie, people who are in the same boat as you. All you'll do by being elitist is piss your friends off.

I think to be a professional musician you have to have a thick skin instead of an ego. Egos don't really benefit anyone. Egos are the source of those "Well, I don't care if you didn't like my piece because I'm better than you and know more about music" remarks. People that have a thick skin (without an ego) can take criticism without being crushed. Most pros in the industry hate working with egotistical people who are full of themselves, it only slows the musical process.

a lot of people in the 'biz' have such huge egos that they practically flatten everyone around them. Also I hate the "I know what a genre is so stfu because my interpretation is always right" - but ya you have to be humble but it doesnt help to be the quiet one either - noone notices the quiet people until they pull out a gun and shoot everyone.. -.-
altho it is fun when some music dud is like "hey im dj crapalot - havent you heard of me?" and you're like.. "hrm... NO."

Having a huge ego isn't really the issue, to me. But the people SHOWING their huge ego is an issue. I will take myself for example. You don't know it, but i have quite an ego. Most of you doesn't know that. So, when you think of me, you're not "there is that pretentious guy", because i don't show my ego. However, when you look at ParagonX9 or Dimrain47, they are "OMG, i'm the RoxXor, i've been signed, Hi to my fans", as they show their egos. Besides, do you remember something Paragon said when in a recent topic? I don't quite remember to tell the truth, but i remember most of the people here were kind of shocked.
So, my conclusion is that you can have an ego, but you have to avoid showing it.

Bah, raising the issue that people with big ego's annoys you can only make people happy, who have big ego's and like to flaunt them.
If i had a big ego, i'd be ecstatic, but i dont have a big ego, i AM actually, the best :P

I must be the minority here, because I don't see a thing wrong with self-promotion. If you're proud of your music and think everybody should listen, why not advertise? Unless you're God's gift to music, I've got news for you - you'll never move up in the "music biz" unless you do a looooot of self-promotion. Whether it's you doing it or your label, you better be getting your name out there. And, when y... wait, Zenon is BlackNoise??!? I really need to visit the forums more...

ParagonX9 has never come accross as egotistical to me. And even if he is, he has every right to be. His e-penis is massive.

I have to agree with NewGillenium on his points made!
I personally don't see anything wrong with self advertisement, at the end of the day, a lot or rather all of the audio creators submit their audio because they want it to get noticed and perhaps used, else why else would you submit it?
And well if you're gonna submit it, I see no reason, at all why you can't advertise the fact you've introduced some new Audio to the portal
What I do object to is the egotism, which is NOT the same as self advertisement, though there is a bit of a thin line, there is still a line. and some people do sadly cross that line
That is all!
Peace Out!

There isn't anything with self-promotion. That's what the Audio Forum is, and the Advertise thread, and many other audio sites are. It's how you promote yourself that is an issue. For instance, no self-promotion should be an indirect comparison with someone else (i.e "My music is the best here").

Hell yeah that's right!
I just noticed that there were a few sour points made regarding the whole self promotion thing!
I just had to voice my opinions on this too, and agreed it's how the self promotion is done! no one should be able to say "Mine is better" blah blah blah...
It's different that's for certain but not necessarily better and opinion shouldn't count as fact, one mans rubbish is another mans gold and all that!
Peace Out!
