Lemme 'splain something....

This forum has improved in many ways since I was gone. There is actual discussion of issues and less "grudge" type matches. I'm glad to see more informed people speaking out intelligently.

However, some new developments disturb me. This "Politics Council" is a major one. What is its function? Does it plan to wield any sort of "power" and if so, how? Why is it secret?

I think this is being caused by some newer members that are, perhaps, a tad bit arrogant. I won't name names, but they know who they are. They should understand that they do not own this forum. Any "secret societies" or elitist groups will quickly be quashed.

I am not against these individuals personally, for many post intelligent and insightful opinions, but there should not be any grabs for "power." As for the "Regulars Lounge Thread," I am not opposed to it in spirit, but I fear it will be merely a chat thread for these arrogant newcomers.

One individual, (I won't name names), mentioned recently that they consider themselves the "elite." My point is that there is no "elite"; there is only respect. Some have more than others and that is because they earned it. You can't come on this forum, post for a month, (yes, I checked posting histories), and then declare yourself the "elite" of the forum.

I'm not asking these people to go away or shut up. I just want them to think of their place. They do not rule the forum. I do not rule the forum.

I hope that there can be good relations in the future.

ok... i think it may have been me that said i consider myself elite... and i do feel that way, based on the fact that the majority of the 18-25 year old population is stupid... i also consider most people on this forum in that age group part of the elite because they also know what is going on...

second, the council would have no power unless one of them were a mod... right, i mean what else could someone that is only allowed to post do?

Hey, even if most people are stupid, no need to antagonize them and point it out =P. Just try and help people out.
Anyone saying everyone sucks and you rock helps no one.

What would they do without power you ask? Flame the people with "STFU"? Lol

Flame people, it directs attention away from the actual post and stops debate. Flaming would be very effective if there is a group.

If anything got too out of hand (flames, spam, STFU pics) I'd step in and use my MIGHTY POWER... er, my delete button.

Can you delete just like one post in a topic? Or even lock a person from a topic? Like on the topic that me and Alakazam were having a go, could you have just locked us out of the topic?

To keep you from posting we'd have to ban you from the BBS as a whole. There's no way to keep someone out of a topic, basically then they could continue the behaviour in another topic they may start.

Mods can delete individual posts, delete or lock whole topics not older than 7 days, or ban people (temporarily, up to 7 days) from the BBS. For extreme cases we refer the "bad guy" to the Admins. Or if a "banee" wants to appeal a ban, he/she'd have to go to the Admins. Mods can unlock topics, but not unban users.

The Politics Council is unharmed by your statements, and will continue operations just as it always has.

As for the Regulars thread, we try and keep n00bs out of it, but some get through. Yeah.

And do we really need a 'council' for that? I think most of the regulars could hold their own in an idiot-bashing contest.

Why band together and make a club of it? It is kind of pointless, and doesn't really get you respect, aside from within the council.

There is nothing besides the Council. It's omnipresent. You don't notice it, but the Council is watching you as we speak.

JudgeMeHarsh, from what I have read of your posts, I think you are a reasonably intelligent person. If not, you do a good job imitating one. However, I do disagree on this "Council."

I ask you to give us a demonstration of actual power over the forum. If you cannot, then it is my assertion that your Council is nothing but a group of wannabes/snobs.

What can I say? I agree with the Commander.

You do have a decent head on your shoulders, Judge.

Now use that mystic power, bring forth the might of the council.

FIGHT THE POWER... the forum is to be used by all, no secret societies... fight now and safe the forum OR doom the forum into allowing the 'skull and bones' to control it...

What kind of power or authority can they have? At most, they can send email to a mod (probably me) and suggest deletes, locks, or bans. They can also make suggestions about what should be on the BBS FAQ.

Oh wait. Everyone else on this forum can do that as well.

I don't mean to be insulting or up in anyone's face, but don't you think this whole "secret club" stuff is a little juvenile? I mean really, didn't we all get our fill of this kind of thing in junior high?

It is very stupid to me. Simply by forming a 'council' they try to give themselves power over the others. Well, the only way they can get the power is if we, "the people," give it to 'em, and we certainly do not.
