i've been pondering this for a while now...between all the worker rebellions and messed up governments, North America's Southern brother the has failed to receive much attention from US and the World until recently. I remind you that it's been only a few years since Brazil's economy fizzled, Venezuela had some leadership changes, and yet the UN has been focused on the Iraq issue. If the world paid some attention to this continent, do you see any good?

the world agenda is the US's agenda. simply put, if the US doesn't consider it a priority at the time, it just isn't.

Not as much as you'd think. After presenting myself as the Brazilian UNHCR delegate as well as the Brazilian ECOSOC delegate at the Model United Nations (a sad example, but it serves a point), I'd have to say that South America is pretty much screwed.

What's funny is that the US has historically regarded the Americas as its sphere of influence.

For all of the turmoil in South America, they just don't know how to grab headlines like Osama.

- Let's see: Argentina is bankrupt, since the IMO want them to pay back their debt in US dollars, which costs more than if they did so in argentine pesos, and go through Presidents faster than an ATM macchine.
- Columbia still holds two world records: Highest income from cocaine exporting, and world's highest kidnapping rate for a ciy (Bogota). And Shakira has a fine ass on her.
- Brazil is bidding for the 2014 World Cup, and Citade de Deus (City of God) was a darn good film.
- Venezuela have had the occasional landslide and monsoon.
- There's a great South American restaurant right next to San Diego Old Town, complete with specially imported beer. Give it a try. although the Brazilian restaurant in the Gaslamp Quarter isn't for veggies, and will leave you with meat filling your sinuses.
And that's all the stuff I know from the top of my head.

The United States exerts control over the entire American Supercontinent, as well as the Pacific Ocean.

true however, an extreme portent could be that South America, due to its growing hate for the US not being involved enough in its affairs, becomes a haven for terrorist groups and the money that funds them. After all, it seems to have plenty of people that wish to inflict chaos on the planet.

Yeah, I mean, did you see Collateral Damage? If you ask me, El Lobo is a bigger threat than Al-Qaeda, good thing Arnold killed him.

Yes, you wouldn't want a ficticious character invading American soil. Can you imagine how CNN would report it?
