Republican Resigns Over Sex Letters 2006-09-29 16:32:14 Reply

Rep. Mark Foley, R-Fla., resigned from Congress on Friday, effective immediately, in the wake of questions about e-mails he wrote a former male page.

"I am deeply sorry and I apologize for letting down my family and the people of Florida I have had the privilege to represent," he said in a statement issued by his office.

The two-sentence statement did not refer to the e-mails and gave no reason for Foley's decision to abruptly abandon a flourishing career in Congress.

Saying he was "deeply sorry," Congressman Mark Foley (R-FL) resigned from Congress today, hours after ABC News questioned him about sexually explicit internet messages with current and former congressional pages under the age of 18.

The Moral Majority must not extend to e-sex with underage boys.

Now to sit back and wait for more people to resign or be found being immoral or stupid. I mean after all, this shouldn't be that big a deal considering the past Democrat presidents such as Clinton or JFK.

Normally I would say... "IT'S JUST SEX!" (E-sex in this case...)
But when I found out it was a 13 year old boy it was like... "Ewwwww."

So this really makes me re-examine my position...
How far does "morality" should be a voting factor?

Because frankly... I didn't mind Clinton's and McGreevy's extramarital affair (although I personally dislike the former and think the first was one of the better things to happen.)

Because child-love isn't okay with me...

Well...
It wasn't illegal because he didn't have sex with my boy... What it was is creepy. Like "old man with candy" creepy...

Still, it makes me consider something I've always disregarded.
Clinton was one of the better presidents (according to me, bitches... so shut up will you!) And I thought Starr blew the extramarital affair to rediculous epic proportions when there were other things to be concerned about.

Even though I dislike McGreevy, who is sorta of the epitome of "Doth-Protest-Too-Much," I didn't really care about his gay affair. I disliked his character and the things he did politcally. His coming out just confirmed to me that he was a hypocrite.

JFK... meh--
So he did Monroe. So what... let's look at the things he did instead of his personal life.

So I'm rather mixed up.
But I'm sure Republicans are too now that "one of their own" have been in a Clinton-esque type of situtaion (but much worse.)

But hey, if you're alright with people who have affairs in their spare time to run the nation, be my guest. After all, they have nothing better to do.

This is slightly different than President Clinton or Kennedy. This is with a minor, and depending on what he said to that minor it may have been illegal, so I'd put this way past the other two. If it were with an 18 year old, I could care less.

I try to avoid supporting men who solicit sex from 13-year-old boys. I have seen a new low: Republicans attempting to justify Mark Foley's actions.

ooo, technicalities. I love the flopping here. I like how you set your priorities: What's worse? Having multiple affairs while in office demonstrating your weakness or doing what Foley did when he didn't touch the boy?

Oh to choose, to choose.

Want to know my opinion? They're both equally as horrible.

Yeah right...

The man is a perv who was out for a young boy's innocence.
Things like this doesn't remain where they are. They progress until the envitable rape.

Clinton nabbed two fat bitches.
McGreevy got himself some queer TLC.
Kennedy bagged beautiful women left and right...

All were consentual and legal sexual acts.
Even if that guy didn't have sex, it could have esculated into it. And that would be many times worse than the other guys' sexual encounters.

Yeaaaahhh, I've learned all that I that I currently know of this affair from the links in the first post and Wikipedia, but basically, the Rep. guy asked a page to send him pictures, asked him how old he was and told other people that he was in great shape, right? Maybe the boy reminded him of how he was back in the day? Maybe he had some fatherly feelings for him? Look, I don't fully know what's going on here, but did he really solicit sex from the boy? If I were that Rep. I wouldn't have stepped down over these e-mails. Maybe he's still hiding something, I don't know, but from the looks of it, it's all still pretty innocent.

This is one man. And I have yet to hear anyone in the Republican party defending him. The most I've heard is "wait for all the facts", from www.stoptheaclu.com. Malkin and Bruce have condemned him, among others. Using one man's unsupported actions to condemn an entire nation wide party is assinine.

At 9/29/06 04:50 PM, Truthiness wrote: Clinton was immoral, Foley was illegal.

Clinton committed illegal acts to hide it, and was accused of rape. Last time I checked, rape was still illegal.

Yawn, Clinton was useless. And if he'd just paid off Jones, the whole Starr thing wouldn't have happened. But no, he had to commit perjery...etc...etc.

So I'm rather mixed up.
But I'm sure Republicans are too now that "one of their own" have been in a Clinton-esque type of situtaion (but much worse.)

Not really, there's been quite a bit of condemnation. You're not going to hear the echo chamber bitch that this is a "liberal hit job", or such crap.

Sounds like an ACLU case involving NAMBLA that had gotten uncritical support from liberals on this board. If this was a Democrat, you'd be fine with it.

Clinton nabbed two fat bitches.

Just the fact that you're saying two...instead of near a dozen shows how much you're ignoring.

All were consentual and legal sexual acts.

Clinton was accused of rape. Jones was not a consentual act. Except for Lewinski there was no consentual on his part.

Even if that guy didn't have sex, it could have esculated into it. And that would be many times worse than the other guys' sexual encounters.

Not quite.

Bull. Going after a girl is straight, going after a guy is gay. You never hear straight people try to blur this. Cause it's irrelevant. Grow up Fli. We have a GAY PEDOPHILE on our hands.

Mmm--
Oh wells... It's a Republican thang, I guess... The Demos vouche for it, and the Republicans actually do the kid rapping.

Next up on the Republican agenda: Pedophelia is okay! Pedophelia is not immoral! Clinton is the devil... gerrr... rooooar.

Because you seem to agree with it.

I won't speak about your ideas as a Republican and pretend to know what you stand for, and you extend the same courtesy to me.

I'm sure you're not amused by the fact that I called you a kid lover, and like wise-- I didn't find it pleasent that you did the same to me. I'm not fond of "tit-for-tat." Let's just move on.

Look who takes time to post something that irrelevent and stupid to boot.

Pedophiles are their own category that is neither gay nor straight.
And since your people, Straighty, haven't been stigmatized by people saying gay people are pedophiles (despite the fact that there are statistically more, and I'm gonna use your words, "straight pedophiles,") I can understand why you could toss something serious as this as irrelevent in the most childish type of manner (and stupid to boot.)

Aye--

He's also been accused of rape multiple times as well, not that they paid any attention to it.
