You know there is a lot of talk on the Political Forum, about one Media station being more liberal or connservative than the other. How do you guys make this distinction. I usually get my news from NPR and the funny thing is they had a "conservitive" come on and he said that NPR was liberal and a "Liberal" came on and said NPR was conservative. I consider NPR pretty down the line. So what do you say. Which stations are liberal, which are conservative? and Why?

NPR is just that, P, so it's anyone's opinion. Most people with opinios enough to warrant being on NPR are radicals, moderates don't tend to feel too strongly either way.
New York is awful news-wise, because the most popular paper, The New York Times (not to d2k, I specified which 'times' i'm talking about) is a little left of Karl Marx. It's impossible to read if you're not a liberal. The "moderate" paper is the NY Daily News, which is approx. a 6th grade reading level, and is more like the National Enquirer. The NY Post is the same way, it just leans right. The only safe bets are the Wall St. based papers like the Wall Street and Financial Times.
As for TV news, CNN and Fox are pretty balanced, but MSNBC tends to lean left, and CBS is totally unwatchable.

Fox News is entertaining as well, but nothing is more fun than reading the posts from our group of pundits in this forum. If you can read through the bullcrap and see the points that many present, you'll get all the facts, and probably make your own conclusion.

I love my MSNBC and New York Times every day. I'll pop in on NPR every once in awhile, when I'm driving through the country and get sick of the evangelists talking about the end of the world. I listen to NPR mostly for All Things Considered and Prairie Home Companion.

I love Prarie Home Compainion, ok now what makes thes media sources Liberal or conservitive. DO liberal support gay rights and conservative protest against gay rights or what. I need a real world distinction.

BBC is easy. They have always been under the auspices of the Government, so have to toe the line for self-preservation. When they were starting out in the 20's, they had to be compliant over the actions in Ireland (sorry, the Republic of Ireland, to anyone that will get overly confused and pissy about it), and that's how they kept their remit for so long. On the flip side of this, Channel Four news has been questioning Blair's leadership for the past few months now, because they don't have this risk, as they are an independently licensed broadcaster, so don't have any restrictions.
Make of that what you will.

If you are Canadian, CTV is quite liberal and Global is certainly conservative.
National Newspapers in Canada are:
National Post: Conservative
Globe and Mail: Liberal

National UK papers:
TABLOIDS:
The Sun (Murdoch, Conservative, trash, brainless)
The Mirror (Left Wing, trash)
The Daily Mail (Ultra Conservative, fearmongering, delusions of being a broadsheet, utter crap)
The Standard (No-one reads it but bored commuters, Left Wing, as it rivals The Mail)
BROADSHEETS
The Times (Murdoch, Conservative, overly-opinionated)
The Daily Telegraph (Overtly Right Wing, readership is literally dying out, as they're in their 60s/70s)
The Guardian (Left Wing, refuge of opinion columns)
The Independent (Left Wing, my usual paper, more in depth and contrasting)

The Mirror (Left Wing, trash)
I wouldn't call it left wing, not by a long shot.
The Daily Mail (Ultra Conservative, fearmongering, delusions of being a broadsheet, utter crap)
In the 1930s The Daily Mail actually supported the British Fascist Party (led by Oswald Mosley.)
The Guardian (Left Wing, refuge of opinion columns)
The Independent (Left Wing, my usual paper, more in depth and contrasting)
The Guardian is waaaay better than the Independent!

I'm not from the UK, but I've read a lot in The Guardian. I quite enjoy it, even if some of it can be mindless at times. No worse than the New York Times.

I don't really care whether or not the news is left ot right. I try and garner it from as many sources as possible, since most papers/magazines/tv channels(shows) only present as much as they deem 'newsworthy'

Compared to The Sun, it certainly is. Apart from their football reporting, since Piers Morgan (Arsenal supporter) can't resist making shit up about Tottenham (my club, BTW), and generally sticking the boot in.

I prefer The Indie. Then again, I had a falling out with The Guardian due to them getting pissy that I corrected them on many points in an article about "nu metal" back in 2000. Tossers.

i'm incredibly happy with FOXnews coverage. much better than any of the other networks in the US ie. NBC, ABC, CBS.
and i'm so glad that they don't normally just to conclusions like NBC and ABC tend to do.

why the fuss about liberal or conservative news? are you poeple some kind of trade guild saying, "you have to have the same stuff"? news broadcasters are companies. they'll do what they want to get poeple to watch.
