Girly Drinks
Anyone a fan of girly drinks? I am a sucker for an appletini (<3 sour) and hard cider. Lava flows too... but those are one of those drinks you can get away with if you are out in some tropical place.

In the non-alcoholic sense, I sometimes get those frappicinos from starbucks.

S'a guilty pleasure of mine, I'll be the first to admit. Many nights I'm content to the old beer or clear liquor, but it gets boring, so a fancy drink is nice sometimes. Speaking of which, Luis, you gotta teach me how to make those chocolate cake shooters. I wanna do that for my birthday. You can walk me through it in Montreal.

Modship for a day.

If you had the opportunity to be a Mod for a day, what would you do? Like, would you take advantage of the opportunity and abuse your powers or would you do whichever is needed. Locked specific topics and banned some users.

I think I would just go by the rules. I think Wade should do that if he can't decide a new Mod one day. Just like, pick a few selected users -- throw them in a room and give them the ability to lock and ban things -- And as their days flow, and he's moderating them -- he picks the best moderator and moves on with his life...

Eh. Probably a bad idea. :P

New GroundSpace

I finally took it upon myself and redid my GroundSpace. Finally. It's kinda silly but whatever. I wanted to bring back the Newgrounds feel to my page.

Feedback would be excellent.

Probably make some extra time to hang 'round the forums longer. All to just stare at that sexy green name. Then... I don't know... ban my bro probably just so I can have a lil' fun and abuse it once. After that, guess I'd just mod like a regular person. :P

I hope he goes all Michael Jordan on us and comes back out of retirement, just a bit less awkwardly than MJ.

in the sense we will next see him playing for the chicago bulls, closely followed by reitrement and another spell in the washington qizards or what?

Re: Modship For A Day

If I was a mod for only one day, I would only do what needs to be done. Of course, I wouldn't get that chance because I just got off my 4-day ban.

But I'm wondering if it's insulting to most flash artists and ASers for me to ask for their services. I'm capable in flash, but my art style isn't serious enough and I'm shit for AS. Just wondering what you guys think? Am I simply asking them to do all the work, or is my own work enough?

Story writer is a bit of a weak position to stand on. And as 23450 stated, ideas guy is a position people shoot down faster than founder if it gets in thier site. Designer - now that almost has merit. Being able to write out a lengthy game design specification, and then a game design document and bible to share between your developers detailing EVERY part of your design, that is meritable. Especially if you can rustle up a prototype.

In essence, you'll be looking at something about as lengthy as the guides TFurguson made at gamefaqs for Final Fantasy VII for the battle programming alone (I link to them every few days to someone trying to design an RPG. They shut up pretty quickly...) to show people you're serious. And then a hollywood format script meeting a Fighting Fantasy Choose Your Own Adventure book for the plot and dialogue and a few hundred pages of setting information to get the artists on board.

The more work YOU do to show your serious side, the more work they'll do, and the more people can lay the smack down on morons who tell you that your work means shit. Also, when the project does get off the ground, most of your work is already done, and you can move into a management role, getting everyone's schedule in order (obviously, schedule is a loose word for a pet project - what you really need to concentrate on is getting people to do the work in the right order...), and deal with the eventual problems leading a team will deal.

Ideas Man is a vital part of a team provided that the Ideas Men become Lead Designers and actually write more than fifty words.

Set up word filters that auto ban people who put certain words into topic titles.
Pretty much all words associated with videogame consoles, the kitty krew, rape, furries, and any other redundant bbs buzzwords that have been beaten like the dead horses they are.

And then I'd shoot lobsters out of my pisshole.

Menu Design...

So, I was doing some d&d on a menu system yesterday so I didn't get a chance to post this sooner but I had a questions: I'm working on a menu system with redundant access. I know in console games redundant access is usually a good thing, but with flash games, where the scale is usually a fraction of a console game, is redundancy good or should you just force a system on a player; or just default with the easiest solution?

For example I have a menu that drops when you scroll the mouse, then you scroll the mouse to highlight a selection and you click the mouse button to select it. Some computers don't have a mouse wheel and i heard macs don't function with flash's mousewheel functions. So what I did as an alternative is I numbered the selections as wheel. So for item three you flick the mouse wheel and then flick it twice to get to the third option, then you click. Or you could press the number 3 and it'll switch.

Is this a good method in the context of an action shooter?

The best (and only way in my opinon) to fine tune a menu is to have someone play with it. One of the issues in designing menu systems and navigation is overthinking it. Sometimes its good to just have your little brother/mother/significant other/ close online friend/ just interact with it. Dont give them a whole low down on what you want to do.. just be like hey here look what i made, and just sort of observe and analyze how natural the menu is to them.. well thats my suggestion.

In regards to the mouse wheel.. its not a natural form of interaction for everyone.. i have co workers who have a mouse wheel but its just not in their intuition to use them.

1000 Pages
Can't wait. Although I can for the multi-lined text for the page numbers...kind of pisses off my OCD side. So does anyone have a great idea for a stupid, yet in the moment type of thing that we could all do. One cool thing I think we could do for Senti would be keep deleting posts so he can feel as if he saw the 1,000 page mark. But that would be a bad idea.

As mature as it would be to just ignore it and post as usual, it would be pretty cool to make some collaborative series of posts like the epic threads of old.

We'd better decide fast, though, otherwise page 1000 is just going to consist of people discussing what to do on page 1000.
