It doesn't matter. You posted a screenshot, I gave a suggestion, then you denounce the suggestion saying you weren't asking for advice.

So I ask you this, why did you post the screenshot if you weren't looking for constructive criticism or advice?

But seriously, you were registered a few months before me. That's not "A lot longer" and even if it was, it's no reason to rudely condemn me simply trying to give you constructive criticism. If you don't want to take the advice, you either need to defend your choice (even if all you say is "It feels like it works fine the way I have it"), or say "Thanks, I'll think about it" then privately ignore it.

It's not good to be rude in real life, so try not to be rude on the internet, especially to someone giving constructive criticism.

I fall asleep when I sit down for too long without challenging my brain - like in lectures. Nowadays I get about 10 hours sleep and then nap during the day a bit - the joys of not bothering with uni!

As for being rude in real life, if this were real life, you would probably be strongly dis liked because nobody likes a know it all, so you would expereince "rudeness" on a daily basis friend.

Yeah, let's get back to the nice discussion about sleep :)

Sleep

I tend to make up for getting little sleep during weekdays by being a total lazy arse whenever I've got enough time for it. Especially at holidays - over the Christmas time I occasionally spent up 'till midday asleep. Actually, after staying at a mates I ended up coming home at about twelve, having a shower and playing some relaxing RPGs for about an hour, then going back to bed untill like eight in the evening.

As far as insomnia goes, I'm completely inconsistant. I have annoying stretches of not being able to get any sleep (while still being too tired to do anything), and slightly less annoying stretches of getting way too much and needing a nap at like mid-afternoon (something I don't reccommend attempting when you're with people, especially if you value your shoes >.<). Occasionally I have some nice bursts of time when I can either get to sleep at reasonable times, or stay alert and awake without needing to rest much.

I'm like that when it comes to having weird dreams, as well. I get short bursts of lots of crazy stuff happening in my head around early morning, and occasionally quite scary stuff like sleep paralysis and half-awake hallucinations (neither of which are much fun at all). The other week I got a triple-feature of quite weird dreams, but I can't recall anything since that.

Anyway, for a slight tangent - what have you guys been dreaming about?

A rate of change in sanity with respect to time.

I have the weirdest dreams....

My latest one was I was in some department store, and there was this guy buying rare toys from people, and I tried to sell him a gumby figure, but he said the green ones were too common so I walked around the store looking for other colored gumbys, then all the people turned invisible but I somehow knew where they were and talked to them, then suddenly I wasn't in a department store and was... i really don't know where, but talking to 2 invisible people about nothing... then I woke up.

Someone should make an "Animate your dreams" collab.

Puppy

Today my family and I picked up our new puppy. He is a male beagle mix, but we don't know what to name him. He came with the name Donner, but we want to name him something different. Can you guys think of any names?
As of now it is between Cody, Donner, and Comet, but if you guys have any suggestions please tell me.

It's kind of hard to pin down something like that, it depends on how many hours a day you can spend working on it, what kind of animation you're doing, how fast you work and other things. I'd be pretty pleased with about a minute per week, but then I haven't animated in awhile and I use (or used to use) a lot of tweening and static elements.

It's getting to sleep that's my problem, insomnia isn't really fun. I get about 5-6 hours on most nights, that seems to be what my body wants. If I take meds for insomnia, however, it's really, really hard to get up in the morning and sometimes I'll just pass out after a few minutes of being awake, so it's kind of a delicate system.

It annoyed me reading this. It's degrading and boring hearing someone out themselves as weak & moan about it. I dont know what it is, it's like if youre strong enough to come out and say this shit then why are you not strong enough to do something about it in your life? Imagine BMK, that you were sat in the middle of some east end pub and said that.. you'd be laughed at and they'd sort you out mentally. Go get some Ricky Gervais down your gulliver son.

And sorry this was a bit of a knee jerk reaction to a pretty timid post of yours. I've seen you say simillar things before you see. I've got a friend who you remind me of in posts like this and it's what I say to him.

You need a slap.

But er yeah I dont sleep for to long most nights. I am usually up at night because I can't get to sleep in my own bed. I think I just have to much stuff around me to play with & too much stuff to think about. I am fine sleeping at my mates or whatever.

I usually sleep like a baby, but sometimes i have these terrible nightmares. I have a phobia of big machines like trains or factory robots. The amount of force they can generate is enormous and i always picture myself getting crushed by one of those things or falling in/before them.
I could probably make an awesome flash about it some day.

You do know that things like insomnia and depression and other related things are basically uncontrollable, they'll come and go as they please.

Telling him to just do something about it is like telling a sick person to stop being sick. It's not going to happen from pure will power.

Sure you can take pills for insomnia and depression, but pills are definitely not the answer. All they do is suppress the symptoms and create a physical need for the pills. And once you get a physical need for the pills, then you have an immunity to their effects, and the depression and insomnia comes back, but now with a pill addiction.

Sleep pills just make it so it's impossible to fall asleep without them after a while and impossible to wake up without morning pills.

It's not a matter of "Do something about it" it's a problem that BMK has, and there's no easy way to fix it. If he's lucky, it'll clear up on it's own in the future.

Haha. Possibly. I don't see anything wrong with that post, however. Just a blank honest post about sleeping, and why I don't usually take any meds for it. I knew it was all wrong when I was making my morning commute and my vision would double and my mind would blank. It was pretty fucking scary but I didn't have the presence of mind to pull of the road. It was a whole hell of a lot worse than driving drunk.

I suppose I might moan about about things once in awhile but I try to keep my personal life apart from Newgrounds. The knowledge of myself undoubtedly bleeds into the things that I post about and the things that concern me.

Different people

Here is a recurring thought of mine. I think its wicked seeing different people, different lifestyles etc and thinking they all exist. This is why I think the film 'Kids' is class. It's fucking cool knowing that they are alive somewere while im alive. And while the Kids from 'City of God' are alive. Does anybody have other example of this? Where its just like completely different mind sets?

One place you can see it to a lesser extent is at the clubs in your local town. For example there may be the indie place & the 'clubbin' place. Those places are different and have different looking people in each (talking more at the extreme ends of things, obviously the same people go to the same places etc) but in all those people you can reckognise simillar characters & simillar groups of people.

When I started learnin media in Sixth Form they showed us this ideology this guys wrote (its prob a book, a 'set of terms' etc) about different characters in films ie the joker, well er, that's the only name I can remember. But stereotypes basically.

--

But er yea. Bit of a rant there ey?
Dont you think this song is brilliant and the video makes it that much better. You watch it thinking 'Frank Carter is a fucking badass'. And er you probably wont notice this on first viewing.

Re: Sleep

I love staying in bed... it's like being in another world where you can just forget about your problems. I love my bed. I sleep in there, I read in there, I listen to music in there and of course, I lie in there. I could lie in bed till 1:00 PM some days... I prefer to wake up between 10:00 and 11:00 AM most of the time.

Sleeping in is one of my favourite things to do but it is a waste of time for the holidays but during school days, I gotta get up early for school. -_-

Yeah I suffer from eczema bad...had it since I was born, main reason I'm an indoor person and don't have much confidence talking to girls (cause it looks yuck on my face.. :( ) I also lay awake scratching a lot of nights, sucks eh. YOu got msn? I'd love to talk to ya about, see what you use etc. I don't know anyone else with it.

On the plus side, it kept me indoors playing games and on the computer and thats what probably made me good at Flash....hah, theres some irony...

Kefir

Seriously, this crap helps for heaps of stuff and eczema, I think, is included. I won't give much info on it but if you guys really want to cure your eczema, I'd recommend looking here:

http://users.sa.chariot.net.au/~dna/kefi rpage.html

This stuff I have is great for pimple overloads, the flu - actually, it's good for pretty much anything except it tastes like a bitch.

So yeah, if you really want your eczema or anything like that gone, I'd recommend taking a look there and having a good try out.

Normally I get my alotted 7/8 hours, but today, I slept from 12-12. which is really unusual for me. Better yet, my mom woke me up, so I may have slept later.

Sorry, but I really feel the need to omment on this.

Normally when folk show stuff, I assume it's meant to open it up to criticism. I mean I can understand having worked your arse off on something you feel a need to show it off to get some positive motivation to continue, but generally if folk post something, I assume they're kinda seeking feedback.

I certainly love all the feedback I can get and I'd hate this sub-forum to turn into a place where folk are afraid to chip in with their thoughts.

In this instance, I'll point out that we've not seen it moving and even if things look identical, we can often distinguish them by how they move in a game. (Not that they look identical here - just pointing out an extreme example). But that's besides the point.

Donner makes me think about eating him. Sorry.

If you're gonna change it, Comet sounds good for such a sprightly-looking fella.

Definitely plays better in full-screen imo.

The 3rd skin kicks arse, but whilst I want to see more, I feel like the game's blackmailing me! The core mechanics are fun but I just feel that resetting those skins after each contact is kinda taking liberties with our time.
Having said that, I suppose the same can be said about Nintendo's Pyoro2 in Warioware, which I loved for the way the bg progressed.
Have you folks listened to J Blow's speech about artificial rewards?
http://braid-game.com/news/?p=129
I feel it was a really worthwhile way to spend an hour and would seriously recommend it to anyone making - or thinking about making - games.

Game-a-Day
Some dude has making a 'game' each day for a couple of months.

I put 'game' in quotation marks because a few are clearly not intended to be fun - instead teaching a lesson or trying to pass on a message. The majority though are novel mechanics that can be played and appraised in a couple of minutes, then returned to if you so choose.

He also writes an essay about the game each day, often a mini-post-mortem if you will, and fulfils a 'request' for a game once a week.

Damnit, one of his games is the upcoming game of mine. Of course mine is totally different, it is just the same "idea". Don't worry, they're almost exact opposite and mine has controls and everything, so it's pretty complicated, but still, he butchered the most classic, original, best idea ever, making it into a piece of shit one control (mouse) game. I like game a day.. its almost like Adam Phillips' 30 shorts in 30 days.. its grueling and theres like very little reward behind it but it shows how hardcore you are about the scene.

Save 'em up for a few months, then unload them one by one each week for the month. If you really want that award, that is. Everybody loves your Flash movies, I think you could pull that off easily.
