Different people

Here is a recurring thought of mine. I think its wicked seeing different people, different lifestyles etc and thinking they all exist. This is why I think the film 'Kids' is class. It's fucking cool knowing that they are alive somewere while im alive. And while the Kids from 'City of God' are alive. Does anybody have other example of this? Where its just like completely different mind sets?

One place you can see it to a lesser extent is at the clubs in your local town. For example there may be the indie place & the 'clubbin' place. Those places are different and have different looking people in each (talking more at the extreme ends of things, obviously the same people go to the same places etc) but in all those people you can reckognise simillar characters & simillar groups of people.

When I started learnin media in Sixth Form they showed us this ideology this guys wrote (its prob a book, a 'set of terms' etc) about different characters in films ie the joker, well er, that's the only name I can remember. But stereotypes basically.

--

But er yea. Bit of a rant there ey?
Dont you think this song is brilliant and the video makes it that much better. You watch it thinking 'Frank Carter is a fucking badass'. And er you probably wont notice this on first viewing.

Re: Sleep

I love staying in bed... it's like being in another world where you can just forget about your problems. I love my bed. I sleep in there, I read in there, I listen to music in there and of course, I lie in there. I could lie in bed till 1:00 PM some days... I prefer to wake up between 10:00 and 11:00 AM most of the time.

Sleeping in is one of my favourite things to do but it is a waste of time for the holidays but during school days, I gotta get up early for school. -_-

RE: Sleep
I get around 6 hours every day except for Sundays where i get 10.
However, when not on tablets to control ye old excema, that gets halfed. Damn thing wakes me up at 2 or 3 and keeps me up for a good few hours. Anyone else suffer from it, and to that extent?

Yeah I suffer from eczema bad...had it since I was born, main reason I'm an indoor person and don't have much confidence talking to girls (cause it looks yuck on my face.. :( ) I also lay awake scratching a lot of nights, sucks eh. YOu got msn? I'd love to talk to ya about, see what you use etc. I don't know anyone else with it.

On the plus side, it kept me indoors playing games and on the computer and thats what probably made me good at Flash....hah, theres some irony...

Kefir

Seriously, this crap helps for heaps of stuff and eczema, I think, is included. I won't give much info on it but if you guys really want to cure your eczema, I'd recommend looking here:

http://users.sa.chariot.net.au/~dna/kefi rpage.html

This stuff I have is great for pimple overloads, the flu - actually, it's good for pretty much anything except it tastes like a bitch.

So yeah, if you really want your eczema or anything like that gone, I'd recommend taking a look there and having a good try out.

Sleep

Normally I get my alotted 7/8 hours, but today, I slept from 12-12. which is really unusual for me. Better yet, my mom woke me up, so I may have slept later.

Are they all weird? I was talking to the one my girlfriend has staying with her and she asked me all about our sex life from the get go. She even asked if I was bi (which I am not). Are they all weird? Even the ones my neighbors have had were kinda weird...

Sorry, but I really feel the need to omment on this.

Normally when folk show stuff, I assume it's meant to open it up to criticism. I mean I can understand having worked your arse off on something you feel a need to show it off to get some positive motivation to continue, but generally if folk post something, I assume they're kinda seeking feedback.

I certainly love all the feedback I can get and I'd hate this sub-forum to turn into a place where folk are afraid to chip in with their thoughts.

In this instance, I'll point out that we've not seen it moving and even if things look identical, we can often distinguish them by how they move in a game. (Not that they look identical here - just pointing out an extreme example). But that's besides the point.

Definitely plays better in full-screen imo.

The 3rd skin kicks arse, but whilst I want to see more, I feel like the game's blackmailing me! The core mechanics are fun but I just feel that resetting those skins after each contact is kinda taking liberties with our time.
Having said that, I suppose the same can be said about Nintendo's Pyoro2 in Warioware, which I loved for the way the bg progressed.

I feel it was a really worthwhile way to spend an hour and would seriously recommend it to anyone making - or thinking about making - games.

Game-a-Day
Some dude has making a 'game' each day for a couple of months.

I put 'game' in quotation marks because a few are clearly not intended to be fun - instead teaching a lesson or trying to pass on a message. The majority though are novel mechanics that can be played and appraised in a couple of minutes, then returned to if you so choose.

He also writes an essay about the game each day, often a mini-post-mortem if you will, and fulfils a 'request' for a game once a week.

Asshole and his Game a Day
Damnit, one of his games is the upcoming game of mine. Of course mine is totally different, it is just the same "idea". Don't worry, they're almost exact opposite and mine has controls and everything, so it's pretty complicated, but still, he butchered the most classic, original, best idea ever, making it into a piece of shit one control (mouse) game. Damn people.

I like game a day.. its almost like Adam Phillips' 30 shorts in 30 days.. its grueling and theres like very little reward behind it but it shows how hardcore you are about the scene.

Cant be mad at that.

Save 'em up for a few months, then unload them one by one each week for the month. If you really want that award, that is. Everybody loves your Flash movies, I think you could pull that off easily.

I could but its not worth it.. i mean thats my MAIN gripe with fulp anytime i see him.. that the most sought after accomplishments never are immortalized on the awards system.... king of the portal is temporary... the art contest winner awards never show.. neither do pico day.. or any other shit thats so difficult to actually win.

I never actually knew how to get King of the Portal. Still the effort is kind of pointless, not only does it not list your award anywhere on your profile, but you also don't get the Certificate compensation that the monthly gives you. Oh well, I guess it'd still be kind of cool for that one month that you have it. Does anyone know if the hits to your profile rise significantly for these non-award giving prizes like monthly and all the holiday/ competition related things.

fastest way to iterate through an array

In AS2 (according to google links from flashkit etc - i havn't tested) for...in is supposedly alot faster than an normal for iteration through an array. however in AS3 the new for each...in is faster and for..in slow:

setting up an array of 5million initialized integers (if you don't initiliaize for..in and for each..in wont iterate through the unitialized variables)

for(var i:int = 0; i<len; i++) arr[i] = 10; //272ms
for(var i:String in arr) arr[i] = 10; //too slow to measure
for(var i:* in arr) arr[i] = 10; //495ms (note that you cannot do var i:int in arr)
for each(var i:int in arr) i = 10; //183ms (note that you don't need to access the array - why it's faster)

Hehe, these speed tests generally surprise me. The last one I remember was being slightly annoyed by everyone saying that shapeflag was sooo much slower than regular hitTests, and then seeing some test where it's only like 10ms slower out of 500 :s I'm still unsure about how much weight the loop, iterations and timer finding take in those formulae, though.

Ok fair enough, for the average array size these all work out to be less than a millisecond though so I'll still use for(var i:int = 0; i<arr.length; i++;){arr[i]=10}

Theme to Live Life By?

A couple of weeks ago I wrote a paper for English explaining what I feel is my theme to life. I chose indifference, jokingly at first and then it just became more and more true as I thought about it.

Which got me thinking, do a lot of people actually have a certain theme that fits their life? Or do you just go out and wing it. So I figure I'll ask the regs.

What do you think your theme of life is?

swirling venom you came out as a really big jerk coming off on galiel sure some times he comes off all mighty and shit but over all he is a great guy (well from what i e know him) the fact that he told you that you should improve your game
isn't a bad thing he only wanted to help about you saying that he shares his opinion without you asking well you uploading pictures from the game over and over again without saying to not give advice and criticism is the same as asking also it came out that you have something against him because a lot of people told you the same thing and you only snapped at him
i am sorry if i came out a jerk but what you did was really rude
that's my 20 cents (yes i got it wrong)

almost two years
in less then a month it would be two years of me in this account why patu1 ?
because patu was taken patu means duck in portuguese which was my capoeira nickname for 7 years until i quit for several reasons patu was taken but probably
by me a year or so before that so you know i am now gonna check if there is a userpage of him and if it is blank if it is full then well it's not me if it is empty but exits i am stupid lol and if it doesnt exist i am even more stupid =] well i guss bmk jmtob and Luis have benn cursing my username a lot of the time for spamming well i don't know i always was a spammed guss i don't get banned because in my spam i actually say stuff it's not rally spam i just post a lot lot lot lot sad for you guys that you asked me to start spell check the fact that i didn't
prevented me a lot of the time from posting so now you have to withstand my charming personality a lot...well i just wish all the fun regs from before i left for a few months were here all though some make appearances like shirturtle and evan...i remember that luis said back then that he is taking a break from the forum becuase the over artists were giving him crap for not being productive
so i got a little carried away deal with it =]
animators comeback
well because this forum became a little bit boring and not reliable for the animators and i got sick of seeing only collabs and questions threads
i thought of reviving those things
1.animation main don't really know what happened to as main and don't really care but animation main was an awesome thing who helped everybody so i am going to re open it unless someone here refuses and thinks well you are not good enough let me do it i think this time it would live on because i want to make sure it is organized and I think that's why it died so wanted to ask luis if he still has the list of tutorials that people made because you used to host it on your site
2.the flash battle freestyle thred well that loved thread with the simple rules
not to spam there try to talk about battels on pm theme selected by over pepole or yourself and judging by everybody else
3.animation chalenges those were really great and a lot of well known artists were participating and that i think should be hosted by someone else more talented and productive =]
some one wants to help with those ? and what do you think ?
wow longest post ever...

I'm not trying to be an arse here, but don't they use punctuation in whatever language you speak natively? It's such an enormous pain in the ass trying to translate your scribbling into something I can actually make sense of. Which is even more frustrating because most of the time your posts do seem to make some sort of valid point.

Anyway, reviving 2 and 3 would be okay, although I think that's just as easy as bumping the old threads.

Saltwater Tank
I love fish... I've always ran freshwater tanks because they are pretty easy to manage. Today I am taking the leap though and jumping into a saltwater tank... prettier fish and coral to take care of.

The issue with Saltwater though is that its about 10x the work. The salt has to be at the right gravity, saturated with enough iodine, phosphorus, etc. And then the weird thing is getting the tank started. It has to cycle to the right levels by putting in real rock from the ocean, and then getting all the nutrients and chems into the system... and then killing fish in the process because you screwed up somehow. Then you have to watch it every day to make sure the tank levels stay right, all the while being patient for a whole month... then you can put the fish in.

I'll keep the forum posted on how it goes, it should be a fun hobby for a while.

Oooh! That's one hell of a jump. I have a freshwater tank, and they're not too hard to manage, but you're going to have some serious work running a salt water one.
