The Epic Adventures of Captain Strauss: Pilot, Clockwork Engineer, Superhero, Knight
Strauss grabbed for the lever whilst struggling with the flight controls of The Avenger Magnificent IV, trying to pull the flying machine out of it's tailspin. Other than the scream of the propellers and the Alchemoengines of his own craft as they buckled from the stress, there were the sounds of Czar Nerv Boshnivka's dirigibles as they appeared from Weirdspace with, what the Mad Czar had once told him, a "ka-zaaa-pooop-zeech" sound. The searchlights pinned underneath their massive balloons illuminated the night sky as if it was midday, giving Strauss an idea how far away the ground was, and just how fast he was going to be reaching it. At his current velocity he felt the amount of time was 'quite improper'
The teleporting airships were up until five hours ago hidden away in Boshnivka's secret underground lair, miles beneath the ocean bed to the West. But thanks to his insane science and mastery of the in-between-real-spaces of Weirdspace, they were now above the Dual City Nullepart-in-Bestimmt. They were armed as heavily as the Czar could arrange, some carrying the dreaded Nitromexaline Compound Grey Goo Bombs, and were ready to rain destruction down upon the millions of citizens below, unless his insane demands were met. They included seven billion barrels of refined oil and the patents to his inventions that the Prestigious College/ University of Nullepart had stripped from him before they removed his tenure for endangering the fabric of reality with his bizarre experiments. And, of course, total sovereignty of the world.
Strauss really wasn't in the mood for Boshnivka's dangerous brand of pseudo-science today...
NaNoWriMo's going really well... Less than three hours work and I've already gone over my quota.
I'm 1800 words up, 2000 if you count a fairly long aside I went into regarding clockwork fox hunting. This'll be the only excerpt I post on the topic until the end of the month. If you see me on MSN, pester me about the novel, ask me about my word count. Keep me interested in this.
