RE: Plans for 2008; Flashwise

I plan to finally finish a god-damned game. High hopes.
I guarantee that, when it comes, it will be epic.

RE: Working... out?

I've never worked out (it shows...), although I do bike for almost an hour every day (paper rounds + school).

Hmm, I can't seem to get it to work. Any site I put in it says Alexa rank: 0 which makes every site worth like a 100 bucks. Probably a glitch right now. lol like for NG right now it says $127.

The scary part is it's worth so much more than that. I guess it shows how much Fulp really loves what he does because if he didn't love it he could easily trade it for a quick sum of riches.

Projects

I've got loads. I think priority for me at the moment are Nuclear Freddy 3 (it's going to be my longest animation yet - already drafted 90 seconds!) and Rocketstar (I've done half of the backgrounds!). I also found a good turn-based fighting tutorial, so I want to dabble a bit with AS. Other than that, I want to get the rest of Nuclear Freddy done and maybe a platformer. We'll see :D

I'm really out of shape since I've got too little balance or skill do do any real sports. That said, I make a point of walking to places as much as possible, doing a few dumbbells every now and again and playing badminton (badly) every month or so.

Conferences and Flash IRL
Does anyone go to Flash conferences or anything? Colin Moock's AS3 from the Ground Up tour's underway at the moment (the subject content is OOP and moving from knowing what a Variable and a Function is to building a decent application if anyone's interested) and all the American dates are filled, and hopefully as soon as the London one's announced I'll latch onto that.

But other than the meetups, does anyone take part in the community as a whole in real life?

2008

Here's how it will go:
By the start of 2008 i have released my masterpiece Shaped of clay, which a few weeks later has gotten me worldwide internet fame and festival succes. Production on Jinas 2 starts and as it is released somewhere near the end of the year, it will be a few giant leaps forward compared to Jinas 1. Pixar starts to notice the series and contacts me about bringing it to the big screen. Meanwhile i obtained my bachelor degree in architecture and marry a hot latin woman (beast in bed) i met during the oscars where my shorts are played...

Eh yeah... or something like that -____-'

But seriously, I'd like to make a website and use 3d more in my animation. I already work with 3d for my study, but i'd like to try it out for animating.

Happy birthday old chap, if you happen to lurk around and see this :).

Cintiqs

Thats still not cheap, but it's good to hear that they are going down in price. I've worked out that by 2010, cintiqs (current ones) will sell for £100-150, and dual core proccesors will be obsolete.

It's weird how technology moves so fast, as soo as you buy new pc, its not new anymore.

I've recently started going to the London Flash Platform User Group meetings held each month. Its free, there are two talks on various flash related topics and lots of socialising. I'd recommend it for anyone in the area, or anyone who can get there. Last time I went, there were quite a few people from agencies on the look out for talent, so if you're after a job, its a great place to network.

Not in the slightest!
Bioshock was way too short. </3

This makes me wonder...

Video Game Plots

Both the Half-Life series and Bioshock have great storylines (imho); How important do you think a plot is to a game? The recent surge of "casual games" seem to be quite popular, yet their concepts are deprived of any emotional drive (not to imply that a game without a plot is a casual game, nor the vice versa).

I think a strong story is extremely beneficial to a game, yet is not entirely necessary in order to be great (ie; almost any online shooter).

Would you kindly lend your opinion?

Sponsor Tycoon

I was talkin to Kayn this morning and I was inspired to try my hand at a sim game called Sponsor Tycoon.. the premise is you are the creator of toilet bowl games, a startup company looking to get in the cut of the flash gaming scene. its your job to rise the ranks and go from rags to riches, spotting virgin talent, underpaying your staff, outbidding other sponsors, creating alluring contests and pretty much becoming the baddest, most powerful flash sponsor in the business..

I think it has potential. what do you all think?

Depends what game. Like on Tony Hawk games, the levels are in seemingly random places, with no real storyline, but it works perfectly anyway. The same with Timesplitters 2.

I don't think storyline matters that much. Unless its it gets like 'what the fuck is going on?' and you're genuinely confused, I think no real storyline is fine.

You need to have at least a basic storyline for shooters and adventure games, but other than that, its not necassary but nice (unless you're forced to watch hours of cutscenes).

Playstation 2 fixed

I fixed my PS2! My brother was going to spend about £50 on getting it fixed proffessionally, but I conviced him all we needed to do was unscrew it and clean the lens. And now it works! Now I can play the most orgasm-inducing game ever - Timesplitters 3 (better than Halo 3 IMO).

Video Game Plots

As Trig1 said, it depends on the game..

Even though the battle system was much better in FFXII I still didn't like the game overall as much as the previous ones, and this is due to the lack of a good story.. I felt no urge whatsoever to go on with the story to find out what happens next, and although it definitely is a good game it could have been so much better.

For pure action games and such it doesn't really matter if they have story or not imo, except for MGS, but I wouldn't really call that action anyhow :P

My Account.
Some kid has been hacking NG account tryin' to prove that their vulnerable. Mine sadly was one of these. I contacted Tom and I got a reply from him and Ross. They deleted his fake news post and changed my PW. Which I've already changed to a better PW then the original.
The kid PMed Stamper too... Not sure why.
Anyway my account is safely under my control agian and now I begin the recovering process... Never realized how much this ol' thing ment to me. Also by how fast Tom and Ross fixed the problem is really shows how much these guys care about the users. I find that very touching. :*)

Plans for 2008.
-Make moar and better toons/games.
-Move into a new house with friends.
-Graduate.
-Continue the battle to get Neg to get a *CENSORED*
-Maybe join a collab for once.
-Get a job to help pay the bills and buy new things for computer and etc.
-Experiment with 3D art and programming.
-Quit smoking pot... (agian)
-Drink a lil`less.
-Work out more.
-Launch my site finally.

So who missed me? :3

Very interesting concept. The backend of those games always seems to become a MASSIVE maze of links and connections which I don't think I could ever wrap my head around but if you pull it if I think it could be fantastic. I genuinely love the idea. That would have HUGE appeal with the Flashers of Newgrounds as well...seeing as sponsorship and the idea of "creating your own Flash Game site monopoly" seems to be the cool thing to do now.

Go for it.

Also, I noticed your name in the credits at the end of Waterlollies. Congratulations.

(Have all the sponsors gone now? They still believe I have faith in them? k...)

Yeah. I think it'd work. Some random name generators for the Flash talent you'll be exploi-- employing, , a mission mode, some stats to show what kind of Sponsor you are (like a Karma-meter - if you're pushing out great games and genuinely supporting people then its Blue, if you're sending out loads of crap games and screwing the talent pool over it's red...).

And of course, the genius stroke of this project will be finding a sponsor who'll sponsor it... thus creating a sponsorship Droste Effect...

Tempting. Impractical seeing as I'm in the Midlands, but tempting. Once a month, trip into London would be good, especially when I get my bike license. Depends totally on what night it is though. Commute time's a pain like that.

Soon as I actually get that bike I'll be happy. I can see the world. Or something. And actually go to more of these style things, rather than rely on the train service.

An aside
Oh fuck. NaNoWriMo begins in twenty-four hours...
