Do you feel like the best way to learn game design theory is through playing video games yourself, or through textbook learning? I feel like there is so much to be learned from video game playing in general, but so much can also be learned from classroom-style teaching.
What is the best way you learn? Is it production, playing, or classroom? Or a little of all?
Well, I'd have to say that production is the best way, playing is important too, but classroom isn't realy too helpful in learning how to actually design a good game.
Programming them is a different story, but for actually just being able to lay out a good game idea requires expierence. Playing games helps you know what a good game is, but actually making one will help you find out how to design it well.
Like, a gamer (not a game maker) could have an idea for a gameplay element that sounds cool in theory but in reality would just hinder the gameplay. Like, making a shooter "realistic" or having the arrows in zelda be fired by puling the wiimote back then releasing a button. Sounds good, but would hinder the gameplay or make it unenjoyable.
So i guess playing games can help give ideas, but making games helps you realize which ideas are practical or fun.

Game Design
I once thought that classroom like learning would be useless to help teach you game design. In school our "game design class" or so they call it, we do very little that would help you to produce a good game, we basically just copy codes from a book, teaches you nothing. But when I went in to do my work experience which was programming, I got a big long one on one style talk all about this Application Development Life Cycle. That was a really good experience for me and I think more time on stuff like that would help me make games better. I mean I know it can't get taught how to make good games but if you get taught good processes it can help you get the best out of your work and also with the better organization make the whole process a lot quicker.
All that being said I think that the absolute best way to go about it all is practice, with practice you get to know how you best handle the design aspect of games. So really hands on stuff is, in my opinion, the best way to learn it.
Actually playing games I dont think is completely essential but it does make it easier to know what plays well and what doesnt. For example from playing lots of games I know that if you want to make a simple flash game that there shouldn't be lengthy instructions or hard to grasp controls and game play.
That's just my view on things I think that process can be taught and good process can mean a good final outcome, but some are good enough to get a good outcome with a sloppy process.

Arg! It good but the contrast on text and background makes it a real effort to read the text. Try white.
I also hear that red based websites give off a bad vibe...
Other than that the mascot guy is pretty cool. Also, good choice of fonts.

GotAPI
Neat. Should be useful when I start learning other programming languages.

Bad text contrast. Like crushy said, white would be a lot better. But, overall, nice site design. Pretty stylish, I must say. Perhaps you can add some padding to the left side of the screen so that the text isn't so close to the edge?

Affiliating
I know people affiliate with websites, but why not affiliate with flash games/movies. For instance, if i put a link to fuzz-media.com in my menu, fuzz would put a link to my game on his site. He'd get more traffic and i'd get more views.
I can't see why it wouldn't work, unless you got to many affiliates and turned your flash into an advertising bonanza :P.

Affiliating
I think the kind of-user-to-user advertising is ok. But when you see MochiAds putting the kind of advertisements you see everyday in Flashes, than its just sad.

Back from the Con.
Production seems to be the best way for me, it leads to the most original ideas. The only problem is that it turns into a trial and error process, where you hope people like something new instead of what they're used to seeing.

What strikes it peculiar is that the cloud's face looks a lot like Orlando Bloom...

Really? I kinda modeled it after my own face (minus the ear... that was just thrown in cause it looked funny).
Don't think that's what I look like though, I suck at drawing. But I got the thick eyebrows and mustache in there

Really? I always pictured you as a sort of clean-shaven guy.
Also, see the uncanny resemblance.
