Why wouldn't a 40 year old virgin who sits at home with their mom all day think that (Luis :P). Sorry, I'm trying to piss people off so I get banned for the 3 weeks that I'm gone. Anyways, I think that people in the General Forum think that they're being funny, but really just go WAY overboard.

Coypright Laws and Such.
Not that i have anything planned, but is it illegal to make a flash reincarnation of a Console game, and to get it sponsored? eg, would a flash Ratchet and Clank be okay, or is there a risk of being sued for millions by insomniac :P?

Not sure on that one. Alot of people make flash halos etc. but I mean I've never seen a REALLY popular one. It would be good to get the company's approval on it.
I'm not sure,check flash rights.

Hot Fuzz
Great movie, it was very similar directing to SOTD
Moneys
I'm getting a game sponsored for the first time.
So, I'm kinda interested to know if I'm real lucky or not...
Could someone say just as an estimate or from expriance the average they've gotten for games with scores like 3.2, 3.5, 3.8, 4+
Just wondering :)

Well, you couldclaim it as a tribute instead of a ripoff. But, I doubt their lawyers ever see Newgrounds, so I wouldn't think too much on it.

Anyway, it really depends on what happens.
If your game posotivly affects sales of the game, I doubt it's creators are going to be too vexed that you're using their characters.
When selling art work, it's okay to make a profit from say... a painting of spider man. But you couldn't mass produce and sell it like that. As far as I know. (Although, that's from lurking in art forums, don't quote me on that.)
I'm guessing the same, if not similar rules would apply for a flash game?
Dangerous waters
I strongly discourage people to attempt to get games sponsored that are based on commercial property... trust me its becoming more and more difficult to stay under that radar. And regardless of how your parody/tribute is 'helping' their sales the lawyers for these companies get PAID to expose you kids, trust me lawyers are dickheads and they could care less if you are using your 200 dollar sponsorship to keep your family fed for the year they will take you down and your dad will beat your ass for getting your family into legal troubles.
I think sponsors are realizing this themselves and more and more wont touch your halo clones with a ten foot pole much less sponsor it.
Was talking to tom about something similar to this last week when he was in his emo phase, he was telling me how the riaa is becoming more and more powerful online and newgrounds is beginning to attract that 'wrong' attention as this hub of people using copyrighted material without a care in the world... myself included. So he really is going to push hard to get people to find the hidden potential and benefits of the audio portal. Obviously the riaa and game companies are two different beasts but the issue is very similar and very real.
Dont say i didnt warn you all.

Lesson: Dont stop looking if sonx has his webcam on, he may focus it on him and feel used.

Audio Portal

Hidden potential is right. I've used the AP for all of my games since something like this time last year - there's a lot of awesome stuff there. The only problem is effectively crediting it outside Newgrounds, since plenty of the artists are only really identifiable via their NG profiles.
Seriously; short of cutting someone in to make an exclusive soundtrack for you, the audio portal is about the best way to find good, free sound for your stuff, and with the huge range of tracks it's pretty inevitable that there's something there which fits the thing you're going for. Audio artists are a seriously underrated bunch of guys.

..:: copyright shit
At 6/19/07 03:12 PM, Luis wrote:

Yeah, that sucks. I'm sure that most artists wouldn't mind a little extra exposure for their music, but the major labels and the RIAA, I suppose, would see it differently.
I had problems on dA from using copyrighted music in one of my animations I uploaded there, it won Daily Deviation and I had to delete it from their site. That sucked.
It pisses me off because I can't find jack shit that I like in the Audio Portal, I dig and dig, go through the different categories listen to tons of music but none of it has inspired me in any way, and I don't just have random audio portal CD's to listen to like I do my own music to get inspired. I guess I could start putting AP stuff on my MP3 player, but... ehh, I still can't find much that I like. I think the AP works great for games, but not for the kind of animation that I do/want to do.
This sig is 100% effective protection from all hexes, curses, evil spirits and bad karma. Guaranteed.

copyright shit
I totally agree with you BMK. I find the AP so difficult for an animator.. most of the shit is loops and akward ending songs. Or maybe we just cant find those gems... i think one of the biggest things about the AP is how difficult it is to find things.
Anyway I thought for the sake of the copyright id share toms comment i was refering to.
===========================
I want to post about the RIAA and rally support like the old days, but that scares the shit out of me, because until people really embrace the Audio Portal 100%, NG is a huge target for cease and desists and legal action from an RIAA with a bruised ego. That's also why I think Weird Al is like the greatest guy on the planet right now. :)

.. sad.. i remeber watching a good few 'banned' cartoons back in the day and it never effected me...
Tex Avery's 'Magical Maestro' (1952) is a banned acartoon due to racist thigns in it but i have fond memories of that cartoon ( dispite being like, 6 mintues).. not cuz it was racist, but cuz it was just funny!

Re: 'Copyright Shit
Unfortunately most of the stuff on the audio portal lacks the professionalism that you inevitably get with liscenced artists and studios. I always scour the audio portal for whatever I'm doing, be it a game or animation. For movies, usually I don't mind using a liscenced song 'cause I never look to get them sponsored. I find it infuriating when there's a liscenced song which would be perfect for a game, but I can't find a song which captures the appropriate mood in the audio portal.
Music's a tricky one.
Never forget...

AP
Finding songs in th AP is easy if you know a good author(NOT Paragonx9). Also, a good way to find a song is looking at the NG AP Radio. I know 90% of the time you won't find what you want, but i've found some found some pretty cool stuff through there.
But really, if the AP was organized a lot better, it would be easier to find more of what you want, and less crap.

You've got the wrong outlook :) It's not about gems - it's about appropriateness. One track could be totally awesome for one animation and terrible for another - one could appear to be just annoying and crap when you're listening to it, and end up fitting really well to whatever you're making.
That said, with the categories and everything only go so far in narrowing down your searches. And I agree that when you have a specific idea of what you want it can make it incredibly difficult to find it. It'd be cool if they added tags or things for suggested themes from the audio artists.
Touch typing
How many of you guys are good with this? I'm trying to learn but I probably don't have the patience for keeping my eyes off of the screen. This paragraph is taking ages to get out :)

Audio problems
The problem with the audio portal is that there just arnt enough people who vote on tracks to give them the recognition they deserve. More than half of the submissions on the Audio portal get maybe one good vote before they are zero'd. This usualy leaves them at roughly 2.50 to 2.00, where nobody checks. There are some that escape this dreadful feight, usualy those by more well known artists such as ParagonX9 and MastereoRage, who have already got a fan following. While they deserve there recognition there are so many more artists that are as good if not better than them.
There really is no way i can see the audio portal improving. Yopu cant put in a system similar to the flash portal(200 votes and its in) because there simply isn't the amount of people to handel it. Even if you only had to get 5 votes your track would hang in limbo for a very long time.
It is a wonderful place but great work just doesnt get recognised.
