I really want to make/play a pokemon clone but with the clock crew instead of pokemon.

That would be sweet for Clock Day 2010.

Also just installed TVersity and got it streaming my movie + TV show collection across the house, specifically downstairs to my PS3. It is sweet.

Also I want to write some software to predict the lottery numbers like Derren Brown did. Then maybe sell it to gullible middle aged rednecks.

You forgot to loop it six times :p

Derren Brown had better be building up to some massive event with all of that maths bullshit he came out with yesterday. If it's anything less than total hypnosis of the entire viewing public I'm going to be disappointed.

IGF Submission Deadline is November 1st.
I'm working hard to ready Closure for it.

You guys should give it a shot if you have a good or original game and $100 to spend. It's worth a shot.

Over the last 2 weeks, I've been working on a little open source project, and I think it's finally ready to share.

as3sfxr
(source)

The app allows you to create retro sound effects (think SNES), tweak them and save them out to .wavs for use in your game/movie. You can also copy/paste settings as a string of numbers, so maybe you could share some cool effects here. Here's one I made earlier (either right-click > paste or ctrl-v)

0,0.017,0.471,0.347,0.862,0.51,,0.106,0.
181,0.226,0.288,0.228,-0.746,,-0.298,0.5 26,-0.072,-0.461,0.997,0.867,-0.197,,,0.

Haha, fantastic.. there is a similar program already available if I'm not very much mistaken.. that you have obviously designed this based on because that also has the pickup coin, etc and the same design. My friend is very much into dynamic sound creation at the moment so I'll show it to him, he'll love it :P

Just checked the Google Code page and yes.. it's a direct port :X Awesome :)

Yep, Dim showed me sfxr and I thought it would be fun to port it. Plus a lot of people don't trust downloadable .exe files like the original was, so having it as a web app could be useful

The original didn't have copy/paste though :P

It'd be cool if you could make a flash 10 playback API for it so people could playback the sounds simply based on a short list of parameters, or even "mutate" it on the fly.

var sound1:SFXREffectData = new SFXREffectData(.2, .4, .8. .1, -.4, .-27, 1.27);
var sound2:SFXREffectData = sound1.mutate();
SFXR.play(sound2); // generates on the fly
sound2 = SFXR.randomize();
SFXR.register(sound2) // pregenerates waveform for sound2
SFXR.play(sound2) // playback of raw waveform

or something similar

I was thinking of doing exactly that, I know it'd be cool to use in my own code if nothing else. 5 KB for practically unlimited sound effects? Yes please!

I'm also going to look into the idea of packaging up the sound as a swf, loading it back in using loadBytes and letting you instantiate it as a Sound object, without any fancy FP10 sound stuff.

Now that the port is finished, I can get on to properly extending it with these kind of features

I've seen that making a swf thing done before but I'd suggest just concentrate on the fp10 stuff. If anything it'll be motive to switch. (and pixel bender could be used for sound effect filters too, like "underwater" or other effects that could be useful).

Flash would be awesome with a rich sound manipulation API on top of it's low level stuff.

Oh don't worry, I'm all over the FP10! How do you think I'm previewing the sounds in the app?

Agreed. Sound in Flash is still pretty minimal. The new sound API is a huge step forward, and as you say, you can use pb for intense audio processing tasks, but there's a lot that cold make it more usable for everyone.

Dear god its a public conversation between glaiel and tom >__< and the reg lounge is going to the bottom of page 2 so i might have to change the topic, sorry you two :(

Before i continue, im just curious. Hey tom, how come Dim never posts around? Is he done from the flash scene or just doesn't care? (i haven't browsed your website in a while so im a little out of the loop :P)
Inspiration: Not your typical "I have none" question but rather, what inspired you to get involved with flash? most likely years ago, cept for zyphonee probably :P

I'm just curious as to how everyone originally saw flash movies, and what movies factored in the decision to post on the forums saying "hey how do i do this?"

Personally, when i first found NG, it wasn't like "oh baby! i want to do this" but more or less "Haha these stick fights are sweet, i gotta find more!" I even found lots of homestar stuff during this time but wasn't really like "Hahaaaa! I wanna make that!"

I think there was 2 big things though, one was actually Superflashbro's decline of videogame series, which i think i found out about the program flash at school around the same time, another was the work of legendary frog, which had the same impact of inspiration that decline gave me, and since it was all tweens, once i learned tweens it was basically "Hey yeah! I can make something like this"

(Actually, if you look at the art style for KingdomHeartsChronicles, you can tell that i pretty much memorized SFB's tutorials in the making of those, thanks again for the tutorials you two)

Yikes this turned into storytime didn't it :P Ok, who's next?

Im PRETTY sure I got into Flash through Dave Firth. My friends and I always visited fatpie for burnt face man, and I guess I kind of discovered Newgrounds through that.

I was always into animation and drawing as a kid, my mum and grandfather are/were both artists and I was always encouraged to be creative, I spent a lot of time making shitty animated gifs in Photoshop/Imageready. I remember my Dad got me a copy of Flash when I was about 12. It scared the shit out of me and I hid from it for a few years, then picked it up when I must have been about 15. Kinda wish Id stuck with it when I was 12, id probably be a lot better now :)

Finally finished my calender entry, check it!. Fuckin hope I get in so much, put way too much time into that!

I think I got into Flash after watching the Decline series. You can take that to mean either "That looks awesome" or "I could do that" :p

Awesome! That could be the most useful Flash app since Denvish's API generator.
