Thats true, of course there are viruses for Mac but obviously they haven't spread which is why I feel as though I don't need an anti-virus.

Also, I took my Macbook over to my friends house and he said: "I know one thing that can't do, right click!". I bet he felt all glum until I magically tapped the trackpad with TWO FINGERS.

Fact of the matter is the whole "there's no viruses cause nobody uses macs" is such a bad counter to that argument. Nevermind that it's not even a con or anything, it's like "everyone does drugs so you should too" logic. No there's a 12% market share, and higher if you just count laptops (like 25% in the laptop market I think). People carry business on their laptops. Fact of the matter is, people make viruses for 2 things: profit, and notoriety. There's more profit from hacking windows machines, but oh god imagine the notoriety you could get if you made the one mac virus that infected everyone. Also, most mac users are unprotected because norton is such a waste of money and there's no need for any protection on a mac. It seems like it should be an easy target, right? If that's the case, how come there is literally only 1 trojan that currently infects macs, that never spread much anyway?

Another thing is though that Mac operating systems have better security. OS X has already been rebuilt from the ground a number of times and, each time, any security holes in the previous system have been removed and fixed, leaving an all together smoother OS X with better security than Windows which has never properly been rebuilt from the ground up.

It all comes down to personal preference in the end though, but uniformed flames really really piss me off. I still hear people say "there's only 1 mouse button lols!"

Is that even an argument?

Lol.

Oh yesh, got some well needed cash on poker just now. Since it have been the 9th of August here for almost seven hours now I'm definitely counting this towards my birthday presents, but I would like to think that my skills were at least a small factor in this prize ;)

Pics or it didn't happen. Of course no one here knows me as 'ercij' anyway, but still :P

god dammit not the mac discussion again. ill make it quick

first of all, macs cost a shit-tonne of money. not everyone has rich parents like you people in america to afford a macbook, especially if you tell them that for the same price you could get a non-mac machine with better hardware.

secondly, there's the games. don't bullshit me with what a terrible way they found to replace the right click and i don't even want to see how terrible the games on appstore are. and installing windows on a mac so you can also play games is stupid, you might just as well get a pc and install windows and linux on it, which is way cheaper. obviously most of you don't play games, so you don't care

thirdly, all that bullshit about viruses is pathetic. how hard is it to protect your pc against viruses? (for free), unless you're stupid enough to go to virus swamped websites and open emails from Nigeria you're not gonna get more than a few trojan intrusion attempts and some background-noise viruses that try to make you contribute to DDoS attacks. anyone with decent software and basic knowledge of how a pc works can get rid of those in a snap of your fingers. oh and if you pirated software on your mac, you're vulnerable to quite a few trojans and other mac viruses.

well actually that's about it. i can see how noobs are attracted to macs because they offer all this "oh so great" software to manage your photos and shit, and because of that virus thing.

Some people have jobs and bought macs with their own money (like me).

Er what? Macs have come with multibutton mouses since about 2005, so you right click the same way you do on windows, i.e. with the right mouse button. It seems you don't really know what you're talking about.

obviously most of you don't play games, so you don't care

I never got why people play games on pc or macs.

Yeah, I'm attracted to it because I find Mac OSX a lot better than XP/Vista. I've never had a Mac crash on me, I find it a lot faster and easier to use than windows, it's got features like Exposé and Spotlight, which windows doesn't have. Plus I can selecting a file and pressing space will give me an instance preview of most files. And I mean INSTANT. Obviously it doesn't work for things like fla or swf, but it works fine for mp3, text, mov, as and image files.

I've never understood the whole argument about macs/pcs/linux, they all work well for different things. If you want to game on your PC then you'll be best with windows, because most games are built to run on windows, if you want to play around with your OS and "learn" how it works, then Linux is the best, if you want a pretty computer that doesn't require anything but plug in and play and you just want to work, then a mac is perfect for that.

If I could afford it I'd go with a mac, but I can't so I'm using a PC. I don't see why there has to be a "best".

OSes

I'm just waiting for windows 7, i've always had XP and it's never really let me down unless i've done something stupid like uninstall windows32, that was fun. I've used both Macs and Linux, but neither covers all the bases in the same way i feel windows does.

I'm doing an animation course at college and we're taught Cinema 4D.

I learnt the basics in less than a week - having no previous knowledge or experience with any 3D software at all. It's a pretty nice learning curve.

Haha yeah, the difference between 6th and 5th was about a hundred bucks though, and the gaps became even bigger after that. First place was about $1,2k, and that would be pretty neat of course, but I was pretty short stacked and had no choice but to move all-in on A7s, too bad that bleep guy had QQ :)

So, who else plays poker? I know SweetSkater does from when I last came bragging here about some prize, but I figure that at least a few of you others do it every now and then as well?

I was thinking the exact same thing. Blackfang, I wish I could've seen your reaction if you bought that and tried to turn it on, realizing it wasn't a laptop.

On occasion, not great, not bad. Been in one or two real-money situations, but never did well in those.

About a tenth as tiring as "Blue Screen of Death LMAO". Yes, Apple fanboys. We still use Windows 98. Would you like to come over and take turns playing Ski Free?

I use a Mac at work, and a PC at home. I've never had a noticeable virus on either. Each has its ups and downs. Neither is better but GOD DAMN, how is there any disagreement about which fan base is mouthier and more self-righteous?

I play at pokerstars, I played dollar 9 person sit n go's for awhile, then I moved to .01/.02 cash tables, then to .02/.05, then had some sick bad luck (honestly, not pretend bad luck) and now I'm trying to beat .01/.02 6 max cash tables, still running a little bad, and still learning. It can be such an intricate game, it's really entertaining, but I take losing to such awful players worse than I should, so it stresses me out.

Maybe I should play some tournaments? I've never really played in a tournament with more than 45-90 people before, and those were just 25 cent games.

Tournaments are more fun for me, I have cashed in a few 300+ player ones (it is where the majority of my winnings have been). It is less likely to get in the money but if you play right then you will eventually crack it and keep finishing in them top spots. You do play differently but I'm sure if you read up on some tactics you will get it easy enough.

I am like you that when I lose to a bad beat I tilt quite badly, which is why I take big breaks quite often. I have started playing live more and it's much more fun (imo).

I really like tournaments and sit&go's the best, all of them doesn't completely nullify the advantage that crazy players with loads of money to throw away sometimes have, but freezeouts are great if you're more of a textbook player with limited bank roll :)

Just play in the low stakes/buyin games where all the people who don't know how to play are. I was heads up with someone for £50 who thought she had high card ace when she had 2 pair on the river.

Needless to say I beat her. >:D

I've watched poker on tv sometimes and it's great, I really don't understand it though - besides the basics, get good cards, make everyone else think other things to win - but I don't know what cards are good etc. I'd love to give it a go, can any of your poker players give me a few tips on how to get into it? Not that I have any money, but I'm sure there's ways to play online for a few £, not that interested in the winning, just playing :D

All the people here who knows how to play are either at least pretty good, or too cheap to play :( I must say that I am among the "better" ones in this gang that usually plays live, but I have been semi-unlucky in every live game for so long now that I basically consider the money that I enter with lost the moment I buy in. That kinda sucks, considering that if the cards went my way every once in a while it wont take much for them to pay me off xP

There's a good Hold 'Em app on Facebook, apart from the option to buy more (worthless) chips for real money it's free, and people actually play pretty seriously despite that. Definitely a great place to play while learning the basics :) When you feel ready you can sign up at Pokerstars, FullTilt, or some other poker site; they all have loads of cash tables and tournaments, so you should find something that suits the amount you are willing to play with.
