If its the Phenom 920/940 then they are awesome, if its an tri-core than it's gonna be slugish. The new quads are awesome though, on par with the i7 and about £200 less expensive.

That's the thing, you'd think that with the state of technology now compared to that used to land on the moon we could've colonized it by now. But we're busy (in terms of US budget) destroying countries to support the American lifestyle (and 7l engines).

Turns out one of the sets of RAM was faulty.

Whichever way i combine the 2 motherboards and processors, one set of RAM works fully, the other doesn't. (Same motherboard, same type of RAM, different processors)

Are you putting them in the correct slots? Some mobos have a safety on them which means you have to put the memory in slots 1+3, then 2+4 if you add more.

there was actually a very stupid plot to beat the russians to the moon. i forget what it was called (project pluto maybe?) but it involved them dropping a bunch of atom bombs after a certain height to help propel them skywards.

no wait project pluto was another stupid one where they had tactical missiles going to their targets at low levels and at the speed of sound. it was scrapped (forget why).

Bzzt - I realise I'm using this thread as a one stop dumping ground for all my computer/Flash related questions, so I promise that this'll be the last one for a while.

I want to build my own computer in a few months (once I've tied up and got some cash from a couple of projects), but before then so I don't fuck it up I figure I need to become a complete expert on every facet of hardware. Does anyone know a good place to start.

It's really a lot simpler than people would make you think. You already know all the different components - cpu, ram, hdd, etc. It's just about knowing where to connect the cables, really. The installation manuals tell you the rest.
From personal experience, it took me quite a while to get my PC parts, because of money and all that. So when I had them, I had already lurked the intrawebs and read way too many articles about hardware and PC building, that when I got the parts it was pretty straightforward. If you're not too sure about what parts to buy I'm sure the reg lounge can help you, I know at least 4 people here who built their own PC's. Of course everyone has different tastes, for example I happen to like intel processors, even though it's true that AMD have a better performance/price ratio. But I'm sure we'll be of help.

So Gust convinced me to get a Dell and just run VMWare to get XCode. I might get one and send my Mac back, but I should probably decide and get an okay from the padres to do that. He says it's entirely free, so I might take the advice.

Well, now I'm immobile since I can't use XCode on this Mac, and don't have any Windows to get FD. Great.
