Toast: cool! But you'd have to work with the kind of programming languages that I like at INRIA. :p
That's what I thought, but they didn't even mention Caml. We're a group of 9, and 4 of them chose programming (to my surprise) so our tour guide told them to write a simple program in Java, using "Java's cool". I'll ask them if we can see an example of some of the work they're doing in OCaml.
Before I went there, I didn't think I would be interested in programming languages since I already have some considerable experience and I would get bored if they teach us a language from scratch. I read about the P=NP complexity class problem and it was really interesting, so I thought they probably do some work on that since they have a lot of research teams in algorithms. But it might actually be a good idea to learn a new language, or maybe learn more about Python. For now I'll probably just write some pathfinding algorithm in flash.
Could I go somehow sometime?
If you ever come to France I have to meet you. You can walk to the INRIA from my home in 10 minutes, or 2 minutes in a bus. I live in an area where a lot of hi-tech company have settled because it's relatively cheap and the geographical location is very convenient. You can find loads of research centers here.
It would be very interesting if you came to the INRIA, I'm sure you would have a lot to learn from them, and I think you would enjoy working there although I don't think you're planning on getting a job in france :P
They also have very interesting research in robotics, I got to see a robot in progress, with all sorts of hard drives and computer components sticking out of his body.
