Talking of UBER AWESOME GAMES, I want to make a free roaming RPG with a full party, retail (buy/sell), quest and combat system.

I just played Mount & Blade and I want to make a flash version. But dumbed down a lot, of course. If I ever get around to opening Flash I might do it. UNLIKELY THOUGH. =]

Heh. I love Mount & Blade. Although I've got to a point where I can't be bothered to play it any more as the group I'm a part of now have control of pretty much everywhere except a few places that have all their troops condensed into so are impossible to take control of. I think you're meant to go to one of the people and do something to help make them king or something but I haven't bothered with that.

I also thought of making a flash version of it quite recently (as in about a week ago), particually the roaming around with other armies roaming and bandits etc and get into battles that way but I wasn't sure how I would wanted the combat as I didn't want to make it like one of those RPGs where you just click an attack as that bores me to hell.

Just finished planning and designing the whole of Penguinz 2. This is gonna be unbelievable :) brb, afk 6 months.

Haha nah im kidding, I aint going nowhere. Its just a fucking lot of work. Like, a LOT of work. But fuck it, it will be worth it. I dont think there is really anything like this in flash games yet. We'll just see how it turns out, hopefully it will will turn some heads :)

Penguinz trully kicked major ass, I can't wait to try out Penguinz 2. I personally have fallen in love in with the way to animate non solids, my biggest pain in the ass always seems to be that, fire, esxplosions, etc. but you make them look really nice.

Yeah I love doing effects, fire is a bastard for me too. I found the best way to improve explosions and things is to look at someone elses frame by frame*. JohanL or someone posted a frame by frame explosion example years ago, and I just studied that for ages.

I can hook you up if youre at all interested and wanna give it a practise.

Ive been messing around with that. It seems the port to windows is really broken though :/ Tons of problems with it. What I did get to work was pretty awesome though

That sounds swell, I've been working on this movie and so far, no trouble, since I'm waaaay better with character animation, still, I'm trying to make some sort of bomb and, god! I have my keyboard stamped against my face because of how many times I facedesked. I can manage with things such as windows breaking, etc, but with things like explosions, the pain doesn't stop, since there isn't many good reference out there. The best ones I managed to get were (in case someone wants them):

-Fire
-Water drop (traditional)
-Water drop (Toonboom Studio)
-Gelatinous masses
-Smoke (traditional)

It's great to examine it FBF, so if you can pass me an explosion sprite, it'd be awesome

This ones a bit different to the first, which was more of a tech demo. Yup LongAnimals again, dont think it would be possible without such a versitile programmer (he just released Heavy Weapons btw, which I really liked).

Still thinking about animating effects, do you think anyone would get any use out of a submission with a bunch of different effects to study? Nice easy scrolling through frames with arrow keys and a play animation button? I knows theres already tons of these, but Id make it look smart and simple to use. Would it just be a waste of time? Ive got loads of things I can put in there, Explosion, Fire, Blood, Water, Smoke etc...

Dunno just an idea :)

Yeah.. I think a free roaming RPG in the style of mount and blade would work well in Flash, with simple top-down arena based combat.. I might make a mini-RPG or something, hah.

Make a game. At all. A proper one, not a crappy small one. Doubt I will though. Might teach myself Java since I'm gonna be using that next year for Algorithms & Data Structures work - I'm a quick learner especially with programming languages (once you know one..) so I'll probably not bother, but if I get really bored we'll see.

This is my little RPG engine. Top down, 100% resembles the old Pokemon games. I haven't worked on it, but it's tilebased on a grid. The enemies cant die yet, the enemy attacks cause the health go to NaN for whatever reason, but I'll fix that when I get the time. There are only like 10 maps.
I made it very efficiently for the mapper :)

Stats are just set for testing.

Go in tall grass for enemy. For testing purposes you only need to touch it, but that's just a simple change of a variable to make it take longer.

Just thought I'd throw that out there. It'll hopefully come out sometime over the summer.
