RE: Halloween Projects

I might be working on a point-and-click puzzle/adventure game with a friend doing the art. We plan on making it as atmospheric as possible and with puzzles that make sense to some degree (considering the paranormal factor). If all goes to plan, it's going to be creepy as sin.
Might not make the Oct. 31 deadline, but I don't really care. I just want to finish something.

RE: Web Design

I posted a link to my work-in-progress blog layout a while ago and didn't get any responses. :(
I've changed it quite a bit since then and I'd love some constructive criticism / feedback. :)

I like how it looks, but what language is that? I did find it kinda funny being able to go through and read all the headers/sub-headers and nothing else.

"Lorem ipsum" ... placeholder text. Random latin words generated to look like they have a proper grammatical structure.

Its not bad, its a bit text heavy. Even for a blog. I think the ryan hoffer bit with the alternating text is way too subtle to feel effective. Your color palette is too conservative anyway... take a chance with that header.. go loud with it. Alternatively, if you want to keep it subtle... maybe you can have your first name in non bold... it might provide enough of a contrast to make it a more interesting type relationship

The timestap over the title is kind of strange lookin.. i think it has too much presence.. especially on your right rail. While im on that subject, i think it looks akward having your links with serif fonts.. i can live with the main post being serif but having the links be serif feels random. Maybe you could line up the recent posts area with the baseline of your first headline, i think itd create a nicer negative space between your content and your header.

k im done :)

RE: Web Design

Thank you, Luis, for your great feedback. I took it to heart and it does look better. :)
Though I haven't parted with my serifs (sans-serif just doesn't look right), I did un-bold it.

Did money from the bailout go to compensating CEOs? I wouldn't be surprised if it did, which does blow because they should burn for driving AAA companies into the ground. But the bailout is about a lot more than just giving money to the rich. These companies have become the backbone of our economy, if they were to collapse, nobody would be able to get loans.

Imagine a world without loans. Businesses can no longer afford to function. Individuals can no longer afford to pay for anything large like a house or a car or a college education. You would risk the entire economy grinding to a halt.

While I'm no fan of the people at the head of these companies that caused this entire mess, I personally am not willing to live through that in the name of economic idealism.

They hold money and possessions of people and give out loans to people for buying things such as houses, cars, and other assets.

the concept of a bank isn't what failed, it was their business practice. It's their own damn fault they failed and if you keep propping them back up they are going to keep failing. Only the good banks are going to survive this otherwise, which is exactly what you want.

The problem is that when a couple of banks go bankrupt they will drag many other banks along with them (including banks in Europe, Asia etc.). So although I can see where you come from with the survival of the fittest idea, it would be disastrous if thousands of people lose their job and millions lose their money (worldwide). Especially since it was the US dicking about with their mortgages, not Asian/European/African banks. It would be nice if the US could get their shit together before it's too late.

we are heading that way anyway and any bailouts we pass right now are only going to postpone the inevitable, making the crash that much worse when it actually comes about. It was a big problem with their business plan, which really won't be fixed just because we bail them out.

This "survival of the fittest" argument is a nice concept but it doesn't really apply to this situation. These banks failing would remove massive amounts of money from the economy and would just generally decrease confidence in banks, which is something we really don't want. And the banks will not continue to fail if we regulate them properly which we weren't doing before.

I like all of the "its their own damn fault" lines going on here, personally i agree, HOWEVER, they're fucking over us friendly canadians as well! We're getting pulled down with their stupid economy and their stupid banks and its retarted. Someone saves me!!

this is lol:
Someone do reasearch on that American senator lady, (might not be a senator), but someone in the gov't or running for gov't, that is trying to pass a law that says that victims of rape must PAY for their own rape kits. (Rape kit is like a kit that tests for sti's and pregnancy and stuff idk really..). So basically, what she's trying to say is:
Oh, you've been raped? That'll be 500$

Right, it was errors before that led up to this, so ya we should start regulating them better now, but that doesn't necessarily mean pull the failing ones out of the hole with government money.

Well that is a legitimate opinion and I can see why you don't like the idea of these companies getting away with their sleazy business practices. But on the other hand rejecting the bailout would have had serious economic repercussions that I'm personally glad that we avoided.

Banks are our survival.

Bailing out the banks for a wider, less-harsh and softened blow to the economy and the possibility of a turnaround? Yes. Good.

Right now it's nearly impossible to get financed for loans you would have been easily able to get a few years ago... granted, people were buying homes with no money down, and this is a result, but we needed SOMETHING to get confidence back up in banks. I just hope the government has another plan up their sleeve, or god help us.
