Yeah, I just listenend to a whole bunch of songs in the Techno genre, and to be honest, most of these songs belong in other categories. People put their Electronica songs in Techno that they don't think fits in either the Drum and Bass or Dance genres (that's my guess because those are the other major genres). The songs I listenend to sounded like they belong in the House section.

(Also, I've been skecthing an idea for a new Audio Portal that will be 1000 times better than what you see currently in the Audio Portal. I probably won't be finished for a while, but from the looks of the plan, it looks easy and pratical for voting and design)

Ah the Audio Portal is getting a re-design very soon (so I hope). Im guessing it will be a lot better than it is now.

Also for people submiting in wrong section you cannot really do anything about that, because when they make something that sounds like a certain genre and they do not no any better they just submit it to there.

I can promise you that many, many, many, many people have tried to change the audio portal and none of them have really succeeded.

Some ideas have been good... some great... some terrible... but the truth hurts.

Hate to kill your spirit (If your really excited or something)... but I doubt your plan will work. Just telling you as friendly advice so you don't waste your time.

Yea, what Serenity said. The reason behind all this is that the AP generates very little of NG's traffic. Tom and Wade tend to focus a lot more on the Flash Portal because that's the reason why most of the people come to this site, they don't really see a need to improve or upgrade the AP just to satisfy a small minority of NG's members. The Flash portal has always been top priorty and most likely will be unless Tom declares the AP a place where aspiring audio artists gain exposure for their songs, instead of a place where some bums who have FL or Reason can make loops for the "real" stars of NG, the Flash artists, to use in their flashes. As long as the AP continues to be labeled "a place where flash artists can get loops" we will remain inferior! I think we have to first establish some sort of equality, and then if Tom made it so that people got experince for voting on songs, and there was some sort blam/protect system for songs as well then I believe tons of more people will go to the AP to gain some extra daily experince and blam/protect points. But that probably won't happen anytime in the near future...

Research, my friend. If you aren't sure, go to Wikipedia or something and find out.

What about music that is part videogame style, techno sounding, with a dnb beat. And yes superdrummer, i'm thinking of one of your earlier tracks i reviewed.

I can definatly say that it's hard sometimes to get to the nitty gritty of the style you're trying to come up with. Most of my music to me sounds like Trance, but it's definatly techno when you get down to it, it's not as fluid as most would like it to be. Personally, I think it comes down to the user's preference.

Its what is dominant in the track. Drum n bass is all about drums and bass. A video game sound with the drum n bass, would keep the genre as DnB. The techno sound you are talking about would be a welcome bit to the DnB genre, but if its dominant and the drums and bass are generally weaker thana traditional DnB song, then its Techno.

i wish there was an "orchestral" genre added and maybe even a "remix of other NG songs"

Thats a fair view to take, but it could also be said to be videgame/techno/dnb if you follow myspaces way of classifying things.

What about a track that could sound like dnb or techno, with some rave thrown in :S thats what my current loop i'm working on is :S

Yeah, especially because for a piece to actually be 'classical', you need to go back in time and compose it between the years 1750 and 1820.

I believed it would be sufficient to use the theory and the traits of that era to create the music known as "classical" ?
I can be mistaken though, as my historical skills in music are...rather lacking.

If all non-techno tracks were removed from the folder, only 100 would remain.

Why 100? I know out of those 8,??? tracks there is more than 100 Techno songs. I don't know for sure but its just that there is 8000 friggen songs in the Techno genre. There has to be like 400-2000 pure bred tech songs.

I dunno. The Techno genre is full of Trance, Break, House and Hardcore tracks... But almost no Techno.

Hi Guys, I couldn't help but notice all this talk about people submitting stuff and just calling it techno

well I must confess I too have fallen into this trap, well I mean to say I've uploaded a piece that is most definitely electronica, but the option from the drop down list wasn't available so I (and i'm guessing other too) have submitted as techno

In all honesty, though this track is kinda experimental, and well I was wondering if you guys could help me with a little something, as you all seem pretty clued up. and well i'm sure it wouldn't hurt to get an opinion from you guys.

I normally do rock oriented music, and experiment from time to time

I can refer to any advice you give me now, for future submissions I may make that are of a similar style to this one in particular

okay the name of the track in question is Apocalypse on the Horizon 2 (a revision)

you can find it here, and should be at the top, or very near it at least

http://www.newground..416605&sub=62495

You'd be helping me a out a great deal with any advice on the matter that you can give me

and if i can return the favour in any way shape or form, just holla!

Peace Out

Yo Syntrus I didnt' come here to Advertise, I'm perfectly aware of the Advertisements page

Thanks very much!!!

anyway I just came to offer my two cent, so you clearly didn't read what I had to say

and if you read it carefully, you may have even noticed, perhaps! that I was asking for a little bit of help in classification

Yes as it is difficult sometimes to classify tracks, as one of the guys above pointed out too

I was just hoping someone could advise on a genre to choose! for one particular track I submitted, as it was an experimental track with rock elements and electronica

how else am i meant to portray the article in question? without making a reference to it?

Peace Out!
