you can do them, but you CANT post them as it would probably be infringment of the copyright. remember, NG says it has to be your work, not a remake of someone elses

Covers is murky territory, copyright law wise.
Its your own interpretation of someone elses work.
You are not giving away their actual work, but something based on someone elses work.
Since you're not selling your covers, you're not making money off someone elses work, so in theory its ok.
If you were to try sell a cover without negotiating royalties, you'd leave yourself wide open for a good drilling in a brand new orifice.
in gist, its probably ok, as after all, you're covers can only really promote you and the original artist, no one actually loses out.
Just make sure you credit the original artist or you'll definitely land yourself in the shit for theft of intellectual property.

Technically its ok, as long as you don't use it for profitable reasons and you credit the origional band. Whats not ok is if you claim their composition to be your own work. You won't get banned for submitting covers, and heck, the VG section is nothing but covers (and jermain submitting to the wrong catagory, ffs), and most of the time, its posotive publicity for the band you covered anyway.

People COME ON!
There is absolutely no difference in copyright laws between music that is published by records and music that is published via video games.
Once a song has been published, everyone can do a cover of it. You have to pay royalties - i.e. a percentage of the money you make from it - to the publisher. Since you're not making any money here, royalties aren't in question, so go ahead and post the covers.
I know I might be bypassing some sort of administrative formality here, but trust me, no one is going to sue you for putting a cover on Newgrounds. The worst that could (but won't) happen is that someone orders you to have it taken off the site.

Oh, not this topic again...
Short answer is yes, so long as you say where the original is from, and don't credit it as your original idea.
