A think it was Sun Tzu who teaches about not letting your enemy know hes winning. Thus boosting the oppositions moral. That and added to the fact you cant do anything to people over the internet (unless their stupid enough to put their home address in their DNS record) then their is not much you can do.

I just find such things amusing now. Misinformation is stupid. And so a persons reputation and respect is reduced to nothing if they constantly commit this crime. But who really cares about respect on this site? The whole 'troll' things interests me as well as the psychology that makes up the average user on this site.

Getting into peoples heads can be fun and rewarding! Even useful!

I need a Mac + the money to buy Final Cut Pro Studio (or just HD)! I seriously don't think we have a Mac @ work. They switched my client over to using Final Cut today and I was sitting there trying to help him figure it out, which we did but I would like to actually be able to play with it so that I can help him out some more. With Adobe Premiere Elements, when you cut something off of the timeline, it will cut audio and video at the same time, but when you cut with Final Cut, you have to make sure you cut across. I think it's basically incase you want to do voice overs or whatever but the program is so much more involved than they actually need it to be that it's rediculous >:O So I dunno.

I'm still contemplating buying Premiere Elements for myself anyway because it's heavy enough for me :D

I've used Final Cut Pro at school, and it's almost as easy as using Adobe Premier. And seeing as Apple makes it, there's pretty much no chance that it will make it to Windows, as Apple wants all the movie studios to use Macs. And finally, we have a sticky, so that retards asking "Hey I need help with (Flash-related topic)!" will finally have a chance to be banned. Although I highly doubt that anybody besides a programming regular will even notice the new sticky.

Final Cut Pro / iMovie is the only reason i'd want a mac (cba with apple vs pc debate tonight)

instead i have to scour review sites for similar alternatives.

I don't know why all you people see Macs as rubbish. They can run just about every OS under the rainbow, and yet you people still hate them. Their cost isn't even that much if you have a job. I'm starting to think that if it wasn't for Final Cut, nobody would use Macs.

with me, it's all about the £££££££.

i'm not the richest kid on the block and without a site up i'm not earning and have no job, i guess i have better things to spend my money on (don't get me wrong, in no way am i saying that macs aren't worth the money (that's a different story)), but i just don't have the money, and when i do, there are more important things to buy.

i'm not sure if final cut pro seems to be attractive to none mac users because we want things more when we can't have them.

Macs are fugly and not at all user friendly if you're used to being able to do something with your computer.
That's what I have against them.

You're right. Though this one wasn't bad, the tower was just massive and looked very heavy (we had them @ UConn in the general Psych labs for some stupid reason). I don't know what model it is though and they have it set up for dual monitors, which I kinda feel is annoying and unnecessary for most people. The woman that my client is working for has a Dell laptop and she just got a Macbook. She's having trouble getting used to it and all of her files are on the Dell.

The programs (final cut & premiere elements) are similar but there seems to be more stuff with final cut. Now if they were going really crazy with this stuff, they'd have to use After Effects as well but they don't need special effects other than transitions and titles and the cutting clips out.

Yeah, I've heard After Effects is even harder to learn than Final Cut. I remember downloading the trial a few years back, and there were just so many menus and options and panels... it was overwhelming, to say the least.
@ elbekko: Okay then, name one thing Macs can't do that Windows can (beyond the obvious, such as gaming).
@ Jessii: How is your client having a hard time getting used to a Mac? I used to use Windows, too. However, a few years back, I switched to Macs. It took me roughly 3 hours to settle into Mac OS X, and I was working as usual within a day or so. Also, the model you were probably using was a Power Mac (newer version, same looks is called the Mac Pro). It looks heavy, but it's all aluminum, so it's actually pretty light.

Didn't no they existed. I've used three or four Mac's and haven't seen a two button mouse. Is one button sorta standard?

If you read that right, I said my client's supervisor is having trouble getting used to the mac. I would put her in her late 40s and older brains don't learn as quickly. Aluminum isn't light, especially when the case is larger than a regular PC case (my tower's old and isn't as large and the case is plastic). Granted that aluminum is lighter than steel, but it's still heavy, especially with all of the components inside of it depending on what's in there.

It doesn't matter though. A computer is a computer is a computer is a computer...

Let's see... supply you with a good configuration panel, a good window manager (the Dock is just bloody well annoying), ...

Anything else?

Yeah but they do make 2 button mice for Mac.

And you can plug in any old windows USB mouse into a Mac running OS X and it will automatically recognize it, and then you people can have your right click. Now I don't see how the dock is any different than the Windows taskbar. It's too large? Make it smaller then. The programs on the dock are a sort of an extended version of the quick launch on Windows. When you minimize, the window appears minimized on the dock, just like on Windows. Don't like the effects? Turn them off, then. Bad configuration panel? There are a ton of extensions that give even more settings in the panel. But please, let's not get looks into this argument, as that is purely opinion.

Well for the sake of correctness, you're more of a geek than a nerd. Nerds only care about school, while geeks are people who are obsessed with something non-education related, such as computers.

I'm neither really, I was just trying to concisely say, "I don't go out anymore". I can't stand stereotypes ;|

Now I don't see how the dock is any different than the Windows taskbar.

When you 'close' a window, it just gets minimized to the dock. Try opening another instance of the same application - oh wait, it's the same window as you closed earlier.

You have a good point there, but still not enough to enable you to say Windows is better. Besides the much-criticised dock, what else can you think of?

You asked for one, I gave you two already (three if you count the fugly part) ;)
But sure: hardly any hardware upgrades are available. Find me the possibility to add a TV card to a Mac.

Mac released the Mighty Mouse a few years back, that is able to work as either a one button or a two button mouse, changed through the settings.

But, since as long as I remember, just plugging in any USB mouse with two buttons works.

Yeah, any mouse works. I use a Logitech wireless laser mouse, and it makes no specific claims of working on a Mac. However, I plugged it in, and it worked instantly, along with the scroll wheel and right click. The days of having to purchase special hardware for a Mac are pretty much over.
