I'm kind of fucked up about it right now... I mean, first Livecorpse, now this....

I'm starting to wonder if maybe one night I might ban someone, or post the wrong thing at the wrong time, and then they flip out and do something similar. I mean, look at his profile, he's just another average NG user.

Man, and I thought MY generation was fucked up.

You absolutely CANNOT blame NG for his actions. If a ban on a forum makes you snap, there were other things happening in their life.

Think of how many feel BETTER after making those types of flashes. LC is a bit different, though. He shot himself becaue of things he did in RL, unrelated to NG. Really, it ISN'T that different, because Jeff had a LOT of other problems, unrelated to anything here. Read his LJ. O.O

Oh, I don't blame NG. I blame cultural influences that made him think the way to deal with his fucked up life was to kill people. I understand all about catharsis, and how viewing something violent can help calm you and help you deal with violent emotions.

My problem is "what does this say about me?". I like a lot of the stuff he liked, and he has a lot of similarities to people who were really close friends of mine. What if people like him are the result of influences like me? I've told plenty of kids to do drugs, how to make molotov cocktails, etc, etc. In my neighborhood, I used to think one of the funniest things to do was go get some kid high. Now as an adult, those same kids are all stoners, just like me. Just like Jeff.

I feel like somehow, as a person, I'm contributing to the problem, and I've never been any other kind of person, you know? I was a pretty fucked up kid. I saw a couple of really fucked up things. I was never as fucked up as my friends, but I never really successfully got any one of them to be any less fucked up. I look back, and all my friends from when I was a kid turned out worthless. I didn't help a single one of them, and not a single one of them turned out OK. I keep getting the feeling I didn't turn out OK either, and I feel like I should have.

After all, just because I've never gone on a killing spree doesn't neccessarily mean I'm a good person.

Dude, it's not society dictating these sort of actions. It's weak people who don't have a grasp on reality. I got teased by my brothers growing up, and I got hell in Highschool, and you don't see me running around shooting people. Some people just want to be hard asses and some just aren't beaten enough. :P Seriously, I think it's parents who are afraid to dicipline their kids now. Even theJapanese who do not hit their children at all shame them into obedience (true, that's not necessarily the right way to go, but how many Japanese kids do you see shooting people?). I think it's just people not having control over their kids anymore, or not giving a shit. Either way, it's fucked up, but you can't blame society for it.

LG, the Japanese don't have guns. So their kids slice each other with boxcutters, and throw each other off of buildings. Reading Mainichi is a trip sometimes.

Nevada Girl is probably the most infamous.

Every society has kids that 'snap.' It doesn't make them worse, just weaker somehow.

When I was 16-19, I listened to nothing but NIN, Front242, etc et al. I wore all black. I went to goth clubs. I did NOT wear makeup. Did I go bonkers and kill people? No. Did I have a strong family structure at that time? No. It's called having a firm grasp on what it is that makes us a part of the human race, and not outside looking in. It's when you're on the outside that your heart dies.

Personally, I don't know what to say about Weise being a member here. I was flabbergasted to say the least, but I really feel no guilt about it. From the sound of things, that kid had more going on in his life than just a weed habbit and a penchant for dark music. Quit beating yourself up, Funk.

You should be proud of how you did turn out, Funk. Perhaps telling a kid how to make a molotov isn't the best thing to do, but there's worse things to be than a stoner. Just because you didn't go on a killing spree doesn't mean you're a good person, but it puts you a step above those who have.
You need to look at the differences between yourself and Weise, not the similarities. You can find a hundred things that are similar between yourself and someone else but it's that one little thing that makes the difference, sets you apart and makes you into the good person that you are.

It was a pure coincidence the guy was a NG member, and had no impact on this. The vast majority of NG users feel the same way. It's preaching to the choir.

But whatever reason there is to put the guy's flash on the front page is trash. My opinion of NG has plummeted following this butt fuck move. Taking advantage of this situation like that is total bullshit. I can't believe I've ever defended Wade in the past. He doesn't have an ounce of credibility or respectibility. Shameless publicity shitfest. What a hellhole.

Pot: HEY! AT LEAST IT'S NOT CRACK!

But seriously, apparently I haven't been a successful person in any way that mattered. Sure, I'm smart, but I haven't graduated college, and I'm seriously considering dropping out again this summer if I move out again (I'll try to keep a night course or two going, but I'm not holding my breath). I'm not a particularly great drummer; I could luck up on a one hit wonder, but I'm not playing with the big boys yet. I don't even believe in love, needless to say I haven't been too successful in the relationship process (I need intimacy before sex... aren't I strange?!). I'm too frugal to be social, and too judgmental of those I meet when I DO go out. All my friends are flakes, when not altogether worthless. All I'm really good at is drinking and getting high, and what help is that to anyone? I don't seem to take pleasure in the right things, I actually enjoy twisted humor.

What kind of person is that? Is that who I want to be? The weird uncle who never got married so he could devote his life to his failed musical career?

Here's the kicker, though; I couldn't possibly be happy being anyone else. I ENJOY being fucked up; it's who I am. I'm fucking up the world around me, and I'm enjoying that.

I'm not particularly sad about any of this, it's just fucking with me philosophically. I've always felt that individuals have a duty to improve one another's lives in a substantial way, and I don't feel I could be happy doing that.

Even worse, the only solution I can think of basically involves going out to bars and drinking all the time, which I also feel would be a detriment to my life. I need a social life outside of work, school, music and family that I won't feel like is a hedonistic waste of resources.

Damn pawt... making me all philosophical. Why can't I just be dumb and content?

Well... I made friends by exchanging phone numbers with people I liked in my classes. So college is useful for something, if not education. :P Also, you don't have to be all hard on yourself. I met my boyfriend on the internet (via NG acutally but shhh, I don't tell many people on the BBS that). Don't worry, while you look at yourself like you're a "loser" me and several other millions of people are much worse off. :P

I feel the same-- I was so shocked to see the Fulps try to capitalize on this thing... It should had remained buried with the other turd flashes. If somebody wanted to find it, let them do the work. Otherwise, it should have never been on the front page.

I agree that it doesn't belong where it is as if it were something that should be proudly displayed but as I understand it NG has been having a lot of database problems and hundreds of queries to find this flash probably wasn't helping it too much. A simple hyperlink should have suficed though.

I see no problem with it being on the Front Page. It's what the new traffic is coming here to see. Give it to them, and don't bog down the search databases. Who here is willing to give up NG altogether to help cut down on traffic until this blows over? Not me. So I'll happily let it sit on the front page.

It isn't like we're advertising elsewhere 'Hey, come look at the shooter's flash!!!' They're coming here on their own, and Wade has made it easier for everyone involved.

Good job at completely missing the WHY it was put on the front page. *thumbs up*

It is not to boost the popularity. We are one of the biggest damned sites in the WORLD. We don't NEED more popularity. What we need is an ease to the strain on the servers, which have not been updated yet. That is why it is on the front page.

I am. Maus (or any other mod), if you would kindly ban me until the deceased's flash is off the front page, I will thank you. After this post I will sign out and not deposit, vote or otherwise participate in anything on this website until the flash comes off the front page. Thanks.

I shouldn't have to ban people if they want to follow their conscience. Kinda defeats the purpose, no?

At any rate, direct your displeasure at Wade. I can't take it down off the front page.

Michael, I can understand your point. Was Wade sued about the OK bombing on the front page? Or the tsunami looting game? Or LC's flash? No. Stop jumping to conclusions. It MAY happen, but that is something I'm sure Wade has thought of and has most likely already addressed.
