I think it's just me. But I'm disillusioned with this board again. For a second there, I was hopeful. Things were looking up. Now I look at the front page and am filled with anguish. We need better topics. Or cyanide pills. Or both.

Ok, you want better topics? Stop bitching about how bad all the topics are and start posting better ones...honestly, just about everybody who is a "regular" here is on at least one forum aside from NG, your telling me there are NO topics on these other forums that haven't been posted here, or that you honestly can't think of anything if your so fed up with these boards? Sorry, I just hate when people bitch about topic quality and then I don't see them at least making the attempt to improve it.

Yeah, it's not just you. Some people actually try to post ineteresting topics but for every good topic there has got to be maybe 4 or 5 crap ones.

Even then, any topic seems to turn into a bush iraq 9-11 micheal more kerry abortion republican abortion vegetarian democrat debate after a few pages.

I rarely post in this forum nowadays.

Am I the only one that remember my topic on how a cybernetic dictatorship might be a good system of government? I liked that topic a good bit, and it did seem original at the time.

You could try posting it on the alternative politics thread. You're likely to get more reponses there.

My, I certainly was a hostile little dick back then, wasn't I? My idea was not very well-formulated, but I believe it had potential. If I could have worked the theory out better.

Like, instead of communism, we instead keep the system of capitalism. The machine could install and regulate laws, instead of dividing up jobs and income. Total computer control isn't such a great idea, anyway. I'm going to take this and let the other posters play around with it.

... Before I start, I'll agree with you avie. I completely agree. Except:
I am making topics. I'm trying to make something different. I think I have three on the front page right now. Two pretty new. Yesterday, or something.

But they never go anywhere. The Israel thread I have - it's pointless. I don't know what the hell is going on in it, I stopped looking. Most of my threads never get anywhere. The ones that do, spin horribly out of control into idiocy.

I don't know what the fuck to do. I try making different threads. I don't know the problem. Perhaps my threads just suck ass. Perhaps no one else finds them worthy of posting. Perhaps everyone wants to talk about..
.. What's it this week? The DNC?

Yeah. Perhaps everyone wants to blow off about that. In. half. a. dozen. different. threads.

You can't really control a thread once you start it. You make something containing the word "Iraq", you know where it will head, regardless of your original intentions.

My most-replied-to topic, AFAIK, wanted to look at the implications next November, of Bush's gay marriage amendment. What happened? It became the usual bullshit ring-around-the-rosy conv. about gay marriage. People can't seem to grasp finer issues. It's always overwhelming topics. Black and white... good & bad. bleh.

I have bad news for you guys, and you're not going to like it, but here goes:

The problem with Politics these days isn't the topics, or the n00bs, or a lack of world events. It's a lack of decent Regs.

When was the last time one of you laid down the sw33t pwnage with your rhetoric? It's not enough to be right, or to prove someone else wrong. You have to convert them to your side, to homogenize them.

Instead of converting n00bs to be like Regs, the Regs have converted to being like n00bs. We are no better than what we rage against.

I will there was an easy solution to this problem that I could make a snappy conclusion line to this, but there isn't. Until we support each others quality topics and completely ignore overdone and stupid ones, the cycle will only continue.

It's the cycle, man. We get bored, and we start slipping. A few n00bs show up, see us at less than our best, and they take over. We say "It's not like the good old days" and slip even further. This encourages more n00bs to take control, etc. But the problem is, there are some here that cannot be assimilated.

Like The_Enforcer. The man has no logic capabilities. And Alpha6. Maybe sometimes he's coherent, but the other times no amount of debating will change his mind. We need something with some kind of basis we can work on. How am I supposed to sculpt a masterpiece with hardened clay?

I'll tell you how, you beat the clay mercilessly until it is no more than mere molecules and douse it with a little water. I don't know what the water is a metaphor for, but the rest seems good.

So we force everything on them, and then tell them to get out? I don't know about that. I think the best thing to do would be to slowly indoctrinate them with our ways and methods. By the time they realize it, they'll have already converted. But how do we go about doing that?

I was actually giving an exact way to make clay maleable again, but it works the same way as you explained it. You keep beating them with your ideas and pretty soon, they're dancing to your tune. It's better to not be so severe, of course, because people respond better to, and are influenced more by, kindness rather than force. That's how the most effective interrogators do it.

The problem isn't lack of decent regs.

And trying to homogenize everyone's opinions isn't any good, either. Actions like that lead to boards where everyone just ends up reinforcing their own opinions until the only people left are radicals at one side of the spectrum.

*cough*you guys*cough*

So maybe it is lack of decent regs, afterall. heheh. I joke, I joke.

Whatever it is*, debate is fine, but trying to get everyone on your side doesn't work. It doesn't promote a healthy forum.

*I'm of the opinion that 'the problem' is the normal life cycle of the BBS. Newbies become regs, and regs come and go. We (regs) are not always going to be here. So I say if you don't see anything worthwhile, just don't post. Let us not forget why almost all of us are here. It isn't for politics. It's for flash animations. So if you get burnt out on the BBS, take a break. Let the newbies waste their energy on each other. What is healthy for the BBS? Allowing the newbs to mature. They're like a fine wine, or a good cigar. Allow them to ferment and mature. You'll enjoy debating with them more if you don't try and consume them while they're fresh off the truck, still in their cellophane packaging.

Well, why don't we all take a break? Just all of us take a pledge to stop posting on the BBS for, say, one week? Just to recharge our batteries. It'd sorta be like how I requested a ban so I could get some down-time. It'd be interesting, to say the least.

Unfortunately, I don't see how it could work unless we were all willing to receive one-week bans from Shrike and FUNK. Is anyone willing to go that far?

Meh, we could all just... not post. We don't need to be banned. I like this idea. I'm pretty burned out from school as it is, so taking a break from the BBS couldn't hurt. It'll give me some time to check out some of the new flash animations (ugh, so many of them are horrible).

Trust me, quite a few of us have obsessive posting habits. Nothing short of a ban will guarantee we'll hold out. And I'm not just referring to me.
