He's never been to Canada, but my last trip up there, I was helping my mom chaperone a bunch of students at a Toronto production of The Lion King. I've been to several big cities, but Toronto makes me claustrophobic for some reason. I've also been throughout Ontario, but my Canadian knowledge only comes from those trips and Red Green. I wouldn't mind a trip to Vancouver one day, even if all my Canadian buddies insist they're not really Canadian.

Vancouver is in the top three most beautiful City's in North America IMO though Seattle is pretty nice as well. Toronto is a crap shoot and so are most big Cities IMO.

Soooooooooooooooo kids.

I was supposed to go to New York to fill in for some coworkers who can't make it in - physically, their road has been destroyed and hasn't been cleared yet. But our bus arrived, we took one look at the shit show going on in Manhattan, and turned right the fuck around. Jesus Christ, seriously, New York is a disaster area of the worst order.

How do you know you've been working the campaigns too hard? When you don't realize Sandy was even a deal until Nov. 7. Can't believe I missed all this.

You're lucky. Most of my area is still without power and will be for many weeks and for some areas months. Imagine having no power and water on Christmas Eve. You know that is going to suck.

An update: Went up to NYC with my office as part of a relief volunteer team, helping out people in the area without power. Usually I'd insert a snarky comment here, but I spoke with a woman still looking for her child in the wake of the flooding, and there are general rules about survivability this far out from a disaster on the scale of Sandy.

It's just really unfortunate, and it makes me upset with myself that I volunteered wholeheartedly to help clean up the flooding of my white brothers in Brooklyn and such, but couldn't be fucked to go volunteer for the Katrina recovery when people were begging for volunteers in college. Makes you feel kind of like a dipshit.

You can't be everywhere. All help is equal. You're an adult now and have much more freedom to actually go and help than you would in college, where such volunterring even for just a week or two could set you back a term and cost upwards of $10,000.

Also, I was in college during Katrina and I don't remember any calls for volunteers from colleges. The only aid, aside from $, was helping the numerous exchange students from Tulane adjust to life in Seattle for the year. Katrina was one big clusterfuck and the addition of mere skillless bodies would not have helped. Because the aftermath of Sandy has been a lot more under control an dorderly, the addition of those gofer helpers is actually useful.

Now for something completely different .....
My brother showed up at my place this afternoon with one of these .

http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/motorcycles/2012models/2012-V ictory-Hammer8Ball.htm

He wants me to store it for him in my place for the winter. He bought it today & he doesn't want his girlfriend or our Mum & Dad to know .... L O L

Seems he's afraid they're gonna freak ( I know they're gonna freak !) especially Mum.

But he's my brother so its no problem ....my ole lady's a bit freaked out ....not so much by the bike, but because she's gotta keep a secret ~;)
Its going to be interesting to she if she bursts from holding it in next time we pop by mums or my brothers place ........

CamaroH , you don't know me very well if you think I'd do that !

I'm planning on having everyone over for Ribs & Buffalo Roast, hopefully within the next 2 weekends (depending on my honey's work schedual.)
WHat with the kid's running around & the bike out in the barn with a thin cover on it LOL .... there's no way if someone goes in there they won't know what it is . Only thing is they won't know for sure ...who's bike it is ~;p

Chemo sucks. I was on a short dose of low chemo treatments and I felt like shit near the end. I can only imagine how someone with stronger treatment feels after much longer than I had it.

So... It appears that I am back now, I keep getting drawn back here, although I am not sure why, lol.

A few of your names I remember... Avie, Rydia, JMHX for sure, Camaro, others. Just wanted to kind of update those who remember me on what I've been up to.

I tried going to college in the fall of 2006, ended up dropping out... I guess the biggest reason was I just wasn't ready for it. I won't go into the gory details, but suffice it to say in the intervening years, I grossly fucked up my life, culminating with a stint in a mental health unit earlier this year.

This fall I started back to the local community college. I am still dealing with the fallout from my fuck ups, so I have to work full time to pay off court debts while I live with my mom. I don't like that, but it's one of those things where you gotta do what you gotta do. Nevertheless, I am attending classes to get an associates degree in paralegal studies so that I can get a better job than working in food service. Ultimately I plan to go on and get my four year degree in either law or political science, and then go for my juris doctorate, but there are a lot of things I have to get worked out between now and then. I also plan on getting a better place with my mom and stepdad... My mom and stepdad both have some serious medical issues that require someone young and physically able around to care for them, so it's likely I will share my home with them for the foreseeable future, one way or the other. Still, it will be nice once I am able to pay the bills comfortably and they can just do whatever they want to do. Isn't that what we all want for our parents?

So... how is everyone?

I'd love to have a chance to go back to New Orleans. WHile I was warned about high crime etc. I was there for a week & never had any problem, ate some great food, met nice people toured around went to that famous bagnette coffee shop at the end of the French quarter....sat on the boardwalk of the Mississippi river watching the gunboats patroling, the crackheads puffing a couple benches away. WHile the bustle & flow of people below the rivers level on the streets behind us moved about completely unconcerned with any of it.

Interesting place.

Since 2006, I have gotten one undergrad degree, two grad degrees, two jobs (laid off from one), moved to Ohio for the job I was laid off for before coming back to Pennsylvania, and got married.

And this week, I'm ready to clobber my husband. He waited until the car he wanted came out to get a new car. I saw the writing on the wall and told him in February his car was a time bomb and screw waiting, he needed one now. He said no, his car was in good shape, he was going to wait until the one he wanted came out. Well, when it came out, he insisted on getting one custom built. It was supposed to be here this week, but there's been a delay since there were some recalls and they had to start those parts over. Which is fine, I don't want the car to catch fire when we're driving it.

BUT, his battery died after being here for a week. Bad enough, but he needs new tires, new brakes, and new rotors. I TOLD him things were starting to go bad. We have separate bank accounts so I almost want him to pay for each repair as an idiot tax. At the very least, we're dropping a new battery in. Gonna see what happens with the other car for the other repairs.

But, I FUCKING TOLD HIM SO!! Not like him or anyone in either of our families ever listens to me anyway. I'm tired of being the resident Cassandra.

Brakes, rotors and tires are designed to be replaced (although the rotors is totally his own fault - you can go through at least a couple brake pads before having to change those) My wife's car was her dream car she waited for back in 2006 like your husband did, Rydia. Had to wait a few months for it to be delivered. But I guess it's not such a new car anymore. It's at about 120,000 miles now - I've been meaning to bring it to a mechanic and have them replace the fluids, o rings and tubes - may as well pay for that now rather then wait for a line to crack from age in another year or two and cause way more damage.
