In an attempt to both revive this place and send in some good vibes I shall update my previous post.
Earlier this month there was a family trip up to Maine to see my brother and his kids. Today my niece mailed me back my d.s game I lost there along with an adorible hand written letter! She even wrote "unkie" with my name. I've been requested to sent letters back to her and her twin sister along with pictures of the whole family including our pets. They're little girls. They love animals. The end of the letter even has a little heart that says "I <3 animals"
In short, I am so not ready for them to be noticing boys now.

I'll soon have a full-time job! Just waiting on the offer to go through now.

My fiance and I are heading back to my hometown to get our marriage license Friday. Once I'm able to obtain it we need to make another trip to show it to the judge marrying us. It's a 2 hour drive and his work schedule is very unreasonable so that's why it requires so much planning to go up there. Ideally, we'll go up and show him on the same day we get it but we'll see what happens. Still, the wedding is September 30th so that's plenty of time.

In the meantime, we need to pick our music and write our ceremony and vows but that should be fairly easy. I'll need to drive home for a cake consultation once we get a final head count too.

Picking wedding music is harder than I thought. Shoot, just the ceremony I keep mulling over. I did pick "The Prince of Denmark's March" for the recessional. One of my friends ended up cracking me up when I played the clip for him and he said. "Good evening. I'm Alistair Cooke and welcome to Masterpiece Theater." Hopefully I can quit thinking of that in time for the wedding. XD

I had my wedding music all picked out, it wasn't hard for me. But I didn't get a wedding because I went and fucked things all up for myself.

You'll find exactly what you want and it will rock.

Or you could pick rock. Rock would make a sweet wedding.

My fiance and I are now sleeping on a Tempurpedic mattress on the floor after his cheap-ass IKEA bed frame broke for good not too long ago. That's the third and final time it broke with him in it. If he had listened to me when I told him several times to buy a new bed frame because that was cheaply made crap we wouldn't be having this problem.

Anyway, he has the mattress but no foundation/box springs so that makes buying a bed frame a little difficult. I am NOT buying another bed with slats, and I also refuse to buy anything from IKEA after his bed frame went kaput for good after only four years. The metal crossbars are damaged beyond repair and the bed WAS put together correctly. I found a decent-looking frame we can use for roughly $179, way less than getting a foundation for the mattress. But now he's all freaking out about "will this work?!" I dunno, maybe you should have been that diligent when I told you there were problems?! Either way, we're short on options so I'm gonna run it past him one more time tomorrow and I think that's the one we'll go for. We're adults and it's time to sleep in a big boy/big girl bed, not on a floor mattress.

hmm... would it be funny if in a steam punk fantasy setting that a character runs across a handbook on a tabletop fantasy game and ends up using it as a reference guide on different species and races of creatures in the world, despite most of the info being completely inaccurate?

I think it might make a good running gag for a few episodes.

We've got some off brand memory foam bed. I just use the metal frame it came with, but have kept my eye out for headboards because if you ever put red sheets up against the wall you will have a red tinged wall :|

The box spring for the bed is on its last limb and I agree, those are retardedly expensive for no good reason.

I had a nice serta when I moved out of my parents house but gave it away to a roommate when they moved out. But it had the same sort of frame I have now. I don't think one of those adjustable metal frames are too hard to come by, I bet a friend or relative has a few hanging around that came with a bed they already had a frame for.

go to a furniture store and ask if they have any refurbished box springs. they're generally cheap and they're as good as any other box spring... they're just ugly usually.

Just think in 30 or more years you two could be thinking back fondly of 'the good old days' ~:)

I can sleep anywhere, road case ,under the stage ,I've often slept on the floor of an 18 wheeler trailer, after we've emptied it & built the show. It meets 2 of the biggest requirements, its up off the ground & its flat.
I slept for my lunch hour yesterday in a graveyard on Barrington St in Halifax, on a sound blanket with the roots of a tree for a pillow

But when I get home.....I have a king size pillow top matress & box spring(s) in a steel frame with 6 legs.

I payed over a grand for it...

I like it, a lot .

Good luck on your wedding music, but don't stress about it.

As someone with back problems, I have to ask; how do those sleep?

When I went to shop for my last my last mattress, I got the chance to lay down on a memory foam mattress, and it was... pretty damn comfortable, but way out of my price range. I wound up going with a cheap mattress and box-springs that were just what I needed.

I sleep on a crappy futon mattress, but I got a 3" memory foam topper, which makes it much, much more comfortable, and is a lot cheaper than getting a whole mattress.

I don't have back problems and it was comfortable from the start for me. My wife had some really bad back pain the first week or so after she got the bed - she has metal rods in her back from scoliosis surgery as a teenager. I guess your body will need a little time getting used to it - but after that it was fine for her.

All memory foam beds actually only have 2-4 inches of memory foam at the top of them. Mine has 3 inches. The only difference is what is beneath the top of the bed - instead of a spring mattress underneath it is just non memory foam. It's a pain in the ass when you're moving let me tell you. It's heavy and floppy.

But a memory foam topper isn't a bad idea if you don't want to buy a whole new bed.

I think my wife paid $900 for her memory foam bed back in 2006 and that was the off-brand thing. The brand name ones are like $2000.

See, I was thinking (per the adds) that since it would conform to you, it would be more comfortable and help with back problems. Sure as hell felt nice in the mattress store.... but I guess it would take a bit of getting used too.

I think your body is used to the non-conforming bed. So when you try out the new one, it doesn't offer the same type of support - instead of your body being used to over compensating for your hips and shoulders propping the rest of your body up, it doesn't know what to do when your shoulder and hips dip down further and your midsection isn't all curved like...so it probably hurts because of that - your muscles are all used to resting a certain way (even if it is ultimately bad for you) so it takes some adjusting.

I bought a little iPod shuffle about a month ago... nice and simple little product, but the iTunes application was aggravating as all getout for me to figure out.

I'm used to the little USB mp3 players where you just copy and paste your music files onto the device, and that's it. Simple, easy to use, not much of a headache. iTunes? If somebody would have explained to me that "sync" means "download" on day one, it would have saved me a lot of aggravation. I connect the damn thing to the computer, and it automatically synced a playlist of random tunes onto it....

First tune; Amon Amarth "Vallhall Awaits Me"
Second tune; some random atmospheric piece from a Resident Evil soundtrack.
Third piece; random bit of Bill Hicks standup.

... and so on.

well, the product name is "shuffle" so I suppose it is only natural that it will come with the "shuffle" option already turned on.

My last 2 phones have been smart phones and the first time I connected either of them to the computer they downloaded my entire music library without asking - so I've never really had to worry about getting my music from one device to another because they all seem to want to do it whether I ask them to or not.

I have an android phone, the Droid 3 now. I wanted a physical keyboard after the atrocity of the touch screen my last phone had.

Also interesting factoid: new touch screen phones are capacitive rather than resistive which means they do not work with an old school stylus (my last phone had a stylus and when having trouble highlighting on my new touch screen portion of my phone I tried to use the old stylus it wouldn't take.)

Aside from the headache of having to re-load everything from my cds when I got the new hard drive I've never had a lot of complaints with itunes. I also didn't like when I couldn't put movies I got from itunes onto dvds but I looked into it and it turns out that's the law, not them.
Yeah, ipods can be confusing at first but trust me, they become instinctual very fast. As for the random thing, that's why I had to stop playing their song shuffle game. That's where they start in the middle of the song and you have to guess from a bunch of choices what it is. I have a lot of stand up like you do so picking what that bit where the guy talks about his dog is titled got frustrating.

I don't mean that the device itself was playing tracks at random, I mean that iTunes loaded it full of random tracks... which would in turn mean that the device was indeed, playing random tunes...

*headache*

I get the feeling that I'm probably going to piss off the sales person whenever I go to buy a phone. They'll be talking about all the various features, and I'll just keep going, "Yeah, but can you make phone calls with it?"

I don't like to text people, I've got an iPod if I want to listen to music, I sure as hell don't want to watch video on a tiny little screen, I don't need or want apps.. just give me a phone I can make phone calls on, dammit. Maybe with internet access if I need to look something up while I'm out and about.

That's what I like about the shuffle; since it doesn't have a video screen or anything on it, they give you this little button on the side that will tell you what the track is, based on the attached file information. The volume of the music lowers for a few seconds, then this space alien voice comes on and tells you, then stuff goes back to normal.

Although, I've got some Van Canto on there, and the little space alien voice goes haywire on and that spits out gibberish for some reason.

Down here in Fairfax I see no earthquake or hurricane damage. A lot of people thought the earthquake was actually a terrorist attack at first since we're so close to the White House.

I'll be returning home tomorrow. Home is far west enough Irene didn't bother us any. I'm told here that there was a ton of wind and rain, but no power loss. Maryland, however, got walloped. Tons of people still without power, and a lot of schools are closed.

My hometown in the northeast was hit pretty bad by flash floods - ruined some major roads and destroyed a couple of houses and ruined the volunteer fire house. I have a friend in Vermont who lost his house but nobody was hurt. There are some new rock slides on the mountains in the wilderness areas but my family is fine and their houses are all OK - they just lost power for a couple of days.

I saw a bird at the Germantown exit. I see lots of falcons around here but the wingspan was way too big for it to be a falcon. Once I got closer I saw it was a bald eagle circling around his lunch. Those birds are awesome. And here Benjamin Franklin wanted our national bird to be a turkey. :P

The goofy thing about bald eagles is that they like really high places near water - so they've made nests in the New York City skyline.

There were some near where I grew up, but that was expected because it was a wilderness mountainous area.

Also the worst Irene did was put a big ol' pot hole outside the house. The road department filled it, and life went on.
