today in the library, my super awesome idea for a new ring tone didn't seem like such a good idea when my phone decided to have serious lag just as I got a call and I realized I forgot to turn my phone to silent:

I'm engaged!
We're in New Orleans right now and he proposed to me in Jackson Square this morning (afternoon? time change confuses me). I have some not so pleasant stuff about the trip, like Expedia wiping out our itinerary, but I'll post about that when I'm back.

Congrats! I'm sure you guys will have many more years of happiness, and now you have an excuse to make multiple trips to New Orleans.

grats Rydia! Wish I could find a woman worthy of putting the golden shackle on me... *shrug* being single has its perks I reckon.
Been steady working on my cartoon (when I'm not plotting terrible things against a certain old nag that's always stressing me out). Always looking for inspiration to continue developing the idea that I've been working on since last summer. It doesn't help that while working on one idea that another pops in your head, you jot it down on the side, and it becomes its own cartoon idea.
I thought about turning it into a book, but I don't think I can get it to work. I thought about making it into a comic, but some things MUST be animated to work.
Worst part is, naming my characters and making their personality work, without unintended side effects. One of the main characters, Diana Fieyure (Exiled "Amazon Princess" 3rd in line to rule) (no she does not look like Xena) I was planning to be a free spirited person who doesn't overly analyze things, and is supposed to be the "elf's" polar opposite, but then as I was reading over the script for a few of the episodes, she sounds like a complete imbecile, and that's not what I was working towards. And of course, in the beginning the "other main character", the "elf" who I've yet to name, views her as a barbarian. Later on this view changes.
The problem I'm having with the "elf"(looks like one, but not called elf explicitly, except as an insult) and I may be stepping into a minefield on this one. I basically took aspects of several different cultures as a base to create the races in my cartoon. Of course the "elf" ends up with various Asian aspects in regards to his diet, and the way he keeps his home. The story takes place about 800 after the second destruction of earth and about 200 years after an incredibly bloody war between the Amazonian Tribal Federation and the (currently unnamed "elf" empire).
The problem is avoiding making any of the characters look like a "stereotypical <insert race>" One joke I won't let go of though is the concept of "the bath tub is not for taking baths" which is a reference to Japanese people taking a shower, then soaking in the tub to relax. of course Diana on the first day she ends up as the "elfs" roommate thanks to a paperwork error dirties the tub by cleaning in it because she doesn't recognize the shower (no stall, its just a drain on the floor with a small stone bench and the shower head is on the ceiling) and figure's the "elf" was kind enough to run her a hot bath. Of course, the next morning he sees the dirt in the tub. hilarity ensues.
I figure various cultural differences between the characters should make for entertaining moments. For example the guys at the "college" (not so much a college than it is an overall training facility including armed combat as well as academic studies) like to flirt with the girls, something Diana is not only NOT fond of, but also views as a major insult (in which she clobbers the poor sap) Of course most of the guys become incredibly jealous of the "elf" because it seems he is the only guy Diana likes, which is mostly because he tries his damnedest to keep to himself, which is difficult when you have such an free spirited roommate. She of course, likes the fact that he's one of the very few guys who don't try to flirt with her.
for more clarity, in the Amazonian society(in my cartoon of course), women rule supreme and men making comments about a woman's appearance is considered very vulgar and out of line. and the king is just the husband of the Queen who has the real power. When the queen dies the king is removed and the new Queen takes over.
Oddly enough, the character I put in to cause trouble for the "real" main character is becoming the true focal point of the whole thing. this whole thing is becoming a real mess and I can't wait to see how it winds up. Once I begin finalizing the details in the scripts, I might put em online for people to read.
and If i ever come up with a good theme song I might even begin learning to animate. I'm already someone slightly decent at drawing, i figure animation can't be SO bad, especially with today's computer technology. Course, I'd love to find a few people to help with it, problem is, people are greedy and demand money to help with something that i don't even plan on profiting from... of course, if I had a clue on how to pitch an idea to a company... then again I would be unwilling to give up the rights to it so I'm still screwed I suppose.
Nothing would make me happier than for someone from some animation studio to see my ideas and like em to the point where they want to take my idea and make it a reality without "buying the concept" corrupting it and putting out some drivel on the same level as other craptastic shows I see today.
but seriously, I think I'm on to something, I think a lot of people would like my blend of various absurdities mixed in with plot and character development (something RARELY found in an american made cartoon) along with some serious situations and general moments of pure awesome.
I'm not crazy, everyone else is.

Like we needed an excuse. :D
No idea on a date yet--I need to graduate in May and there are some career offers, and I need to get those and where I'll be living ironed out first.
Also, you know how I said shit's going wrong on this trip? Orleans Parish lost water pressure Friday night. Since yesterday we haven't been able to shower or anything. I was a little lucky because the fiance went and got some ice Thursday night, and I've been using the melted stuff to brush my teeth. The water test will be done in another 45 minutes and depending on the results I may be hopping into the shower then.

I agree, I'm not offended by anything I've read so far. I think that adds to the story/plot, and the fact that you're being careful not to offend means you most likely will not.
and some people take offense to anything, and to be blunt, screw those people. Don't let a few bad eggs supress your creativity.

You could try to work on flash, but if you're trying to make money and get it published then yeah I see the complexity of the situation.
You'd mentioned a comic book, I think that'd be a good place to start.

Rydia, I'd seen on the news how NO was under a boil advisory etc etc and totally forgot you were down there. I'm glad it hasn't dampened the trip, hope it's taken care of soon.

I'd say the boil advisory was lifted roughly 3 hours ago. The only contaminated sample came from the neighborhoods near Lake Ponchartrain, so those people are screwed. We did get the OK to take a shower around 3 this afternoon though, so we did. Then we went to a restaurant whose service sucked donkey balls. Then the water advisory was lifted by the time we all had a hot tub party. Hmm, wonder if we were in contaminated water.
I'm flying out of here tomorrow. My fiance lost his ID on the way here though so getting him through security will be VERY interesting. We've spoken with the airline and they've flagged his account, so it sounds like he'll just go through enhanced security. They can track his credit card and he'll have no issues getting on the flight. Now here's hoping Expedia didn't wipe our flights out. We checked and so far they're still there.

When I was growing up the water table in my town would always get really low in the summer because of lack of rain and we'd be under boil water orders for a few days every month.
The last place i lived in kept failing lead tests and so we started buying bottled water (bad, I know) and double filtered any water from the tap before cooking (because heating it up can cause the lead to get more concentrated..which is why boiling water with a lead problem is bad news) by using a faucet filter and a pitcher with a filter thing.

oh man, that sucks. They are pretty crazy about IDs at the airport, like they ask you for it before you can even go through the metal detectors and stuff. I guess if he has some other forms of ID like an old student ID or a JSA junior member card or something they can make due? Good luck with the airport.

The fiance (still getting used to calling him that!) had an OK experience, I suppose, though he did have a patdown. I'll post about his experience in the TSA thread--might be a good idea to post experience from someone who's been there. Myself, I just went through the normal line and waited for him. Yes, they did touch his groin, but only with the back of his hand.
Gonna take him to the DMV tomorrow to replace the ID he lost. Depending on how late we're there I'll head back to my apartment tomorrow or the day after. Will be home for Thanksgiving though, and will be able to tell extended relatives about the engagement. Mom has told her coworkers but has held off on telling relatives.

How wedding is planned? How bride get married? Yeah, I know we can't even set a date but there is stuff I can get started on. Of course...I don't know where to start! Thinking of stuff like colors and dress cuts. I want to get started early because it takes for-fucking-ever for that stuff.
In other news, my classes start Monday. I wish I had more time off but that can't be helped. This time off was incredible. Of course, this means I get to buy books Sunday. And I just paid off the credit card too. Crap.
Will return to doing thesis stuff. We all got an irate email from the program chair saying we should be sending drafts between now and March. She must have been so happy to receive my first draft in August. Two chapters down, three to go.

Oh god, when I got engaged, it was another year and a half before I got married but within the first couple of months we had the wedding dress and band lined up and a deposit down on a reception hall and picked out the reception dinner.
I guess since you don't have the date set you can still pick out stuff you're going to buy ahead of time instead of rent, like shoes or your dress and table decorations (or start crafting them if you're that sort).
And prepare to be astounded about how much money you throw at this thing over time. Ugh, I imagine I dumped a few thousand into my wedding without ever noticing until it was all over. A $200 deposit here, a $500 deposit there, a $100 decoration here and a $600 dress...the longer you wait, the more you inadvertently toss into it, "woo hoo paycheck, lets pay for this..."

Enlightened? Nah. These guys just know more words in the 5-12 character range.
So... I hope this thread turns into something nice. I'd hate to see this one just go down the tube with a bunch of 2 line posts. Although at times shorter is better, size is not always impotent. err important.

I think you may have somehow replied to the incorrect thread, although I have no idea whether what you had to say would have been on topic to the discussion since the size of folks' replies tends not to come up often as a discussion point.

Yes. Butts. Definitely, Butts.
On another note, congratulations on getting engaged Rydia. Don't freak out over wedding planning just yet, that's what the final 24 hours before the ceremony are for!

I have know idea what 'books cost' I never tried to get a higher education.
But just so you don't think it gets better !
Just got home from work, before logging online I checked the mail...got a letter from the Province !
(like a State but bigger in size, & smaller in population ... usually ~;-)
Said they want $72.00 for a new drivers license, mine is about to expire.
Next envelope, Insurance company, they want $1360.00 so I can drive my truck & car next year .
$1400.00 + so i can drive the vehicles I bought & maintain.... talk about a scam , I love the 'code' on my license -01-, driver's license over 10 years, accident free over 10 years .
If its 14 bills because I'm an older safe driver, I wonder what it would be if I had been in a couple accidents , or had a drinking driving conviction ?
Anyway RydiaLockheart, its always going to be something ~:-\

I know what you mean More. I had one accident and it hiked my insurance for a while. Fortunately it is now off my record, and I am tons more careful. Speaking of, I may be eligible for a few discounts so I need to speak with my insurance agent--just reminded me of that.
Looks like tomorrow I can drive my car in the snow for the first time to see how it handles. I think it'll do well but since I bought it in July I haven't been able to practice winter driving for obvious reasons. As long as it doesn't fly all over like my last one I'm fine.
