Winter decided to come a little early. A tree came down in our backyard, luckily it wasn't closer to the house, or the same thing that happened to my aunt and uncles place during the last storms would of happened to us, we would of had, as one of you so delicately put, had a sun roof.

Living paycheck to paycheck SUCKS.
Which is why I no longer do it.
I laughed at the comment about $500.00 insurance for 6 months !
Up here I have a clean abstract no accidents in over 10 years & I pay $1600.00 for a 6 yr old truck & car 4 year old car ! & that is not bad for insurance around here !
The Governemtn mandates insurance must be held by everyone except on their vehicles. They allow the insurance to set the rates & they limit payments by insurance to keep profits high...& they make no bones about it in this Province ! The Governments battle cry is shut up or go to jail. Other than that not a bad dictatorship at all...the ability to sue anyone is almost nil so it could be worse !
On the paycheck to paycheck issue.
My dad always made me, pay myself something from every pay. Even if my bills took alomst everything I earned when I lived at home, & left me 20 bucks until the next pay, dad made me put a couple of dollars 'away'
I still do this, either in cash in my safe, the bank, or when I have enough i buy gold or silver.
I have a minimum of 6 months of cash reserves built up now. My Silver & gold collection is in the tens of thousands of dollars....Its taken awhile to do it. But you guy's are still young & if your diligent & are working toward a long term goal of NOT LIVING paycheck to paycheck...its worth it.
One little note because my exwife cleaned "us" out just before our break up. If its Your money...keep it in a safe place only you can get to ! That way you won't have to start over like I did

When I bought the Blackberry, the Droid was still new(ish), hadn't yet come out with 2.0, and was still on the heels of the terrible Kin and iPhone craze, so I wasn't yet sure that it would become the powerhouse that it is. 6 months later I'm kind of disappointed, but it's paid off soon and aside from this glitch (and the frankly terrible Facebook app, seriously when the mobile web version is more user-friendly than your app, that's a problem) it's been good to me. Just pissed off right now, because I had numbers of people I haven't talked to in a while and don't know now how to get in touch with even to let them know of the problem.

I may have picked short straw with my smart phone but I absolutely love it.
I have a Samsung Omnia which is a touch screen Windows Mobile 6.1 smart phone and I've yet to find a huge fault with it. In fact, I really like it despite the WM OS and lack of updates (considering I bought it after they already had a newer version of the phone with WM6.5)
it can play podcasts and has an RSS feed and all the other crap you expect from any other phone. In fact, it has a fully functioning windows media player which I think is pretty kickass considering the phone downloaded my entire music library from my computer when I first connected it and kept my playlists and personal preferences and transferred them right to my phone without any issues.
I'm not huge on texting so the on screen keyboard isn't that annoying, but I'm one of those people who prefer the full button keyboards so I don't think even the iphone would make me happy about that.
Oh, and the full html web browser it came with had flash pre-installed...this is a phone that came out around the same time as the iphone and it has had Flash player the whole time. Now, mobile flash is more like flash player 8 so things that need flash 9 or higher doesn't load, but that's to be expected with the limited capabilities of a mobile phone.
I even have powerpoint, word, onenote, email, excel, ect. on my phone. I like the interface because it lets me get to stuff without flashy crap bogging down the phone. And youtube videos automatically stream to the media player. It also has a stripped down "touch player" for listening to pod casts and single songs if I don't want to open the windows media player.
In fact, even if it is starting to get old, it is running pretty quick. It came out with a similar phone, the Samsung Saga that my wife got, which resembles a traditional blackberry with a keyboard and whatnot, but my wife has had a hell of a time with the reminders on it.

My new phone has a flip out thing with a full keyboard but at this point I'm just so used to texting with the number pad that it's hard to adjust. Plus, those keyboard buttons are tiny. I'm old.

I hate my cellphone. and I don't want an iphone or whatever is cool right now because I hate touch screens.
I'm gonna get that old lady phone. the jitterbug or whatever.
As for the not having money thing, I'm making more money, spending the same, and ending up with less.
I've noticed food (groceries) are alot more expensive and I blame that. I can't figure where else it'd be going. I don't shop much at all.
Rydia, the insectarium is awesome. It's alot of fun and he doesn't have to touch any of the bugs. Tell him to bring you or else.

My LG is good enough for me.
My groceries aren't getting more expensive, but maybe it's regional, or depends on what I'm buying. I can understand region because when I lived in Ohio, I'd buy something there and when I came back home it was a different price. Of course, a lot of things in Ohio are cheaper for the sole reason they don't maintain their infrastructure. And that ends up costing taxpayers a lot more down the road... Back to food though, I have become a lot better at snapping up bargains.
One of my classmates had an interesting project once though. She wanted to find out why the price of her favorite yogurt spiked 60% so she did some research. Turns out it has to do with the Niger Delta rebels. As long as they're gumming up the works, the company making the yogurt can't take its normal trade route and has to take a longer and thus more expensive one.

I've become better at bargains too. If they still mailed out coupons you could cut, I would.
Does anyone still do that? I get sales papers, but it's just ads.

I've noticed it alot in fresh fruits/vegetables. Like you said, it may be regional.
My makeup and other chick products have gone up too. and I just buy all that at wal mart. I'm not high maintenance.

I get weird stares from people when I tell them I don't have a cell phone. I just don't have any real need for one, usually I'm either here at home or at work. Although, I could have used one last month when my car broke down... I had to go into a car insurance office to call a tow truck, and they tried to sell me on a new policy.
I'm 25 years old with no accidents or tickets since I started driving at 17; $30 a month through my current agent.
The only thing I've really noticed price-wise here locally is that the cost of meat has gone up. We usually wind up eating turkey when it goes on sale, or pork loin when it goes on sale (just take it home and carve it up for chops).

I'm one of those people who uses my cell phone as my landline.
I dunno what it's like where Seven is but I get coupons in the mail. Sometimes there are bargain mailers that come in envelopes and those are sporadic. Some I get once a week. They just randomly appear. Every week they're also in the Sunday paper. When Mom and Dad finish digging through the coupons they want I get the leftovers.
I probably could buy shampoo for a year with $30 too. I'm not very high maintenance.

I have noticed groceries are getting more expensive. It seems that any small trip to the grocery store winds up being $50 at most. I usually do my grocery shopping for 3 or 4 weeks at at time and it used to cost maybe $150 and that's without coupons or paying attention to what I get brand wise, and doing the same kind of shopping was $240 last time I did it. fresh food like fruits, meat, ect are definitely more expensive from what I can remember since the summer. Then again, i moved to a new state in a whole new region of the country so it may be a seasonal thing.
Either way, what I recall about the early parts of the recession we're in, companies were starting to put less of the product (10oz of cereal rather than 12oz) in the same size boxes and selling them for the same price. What I think is happening is that they are finally caving and just charging a little extra for a little less and you go through groceries quicker because there is less of the product in the box and you are paying a little extra.

Seriously, how do I "give" someone my phone if they reach in my pocket and take it? How have I given them permission to rifle through it and then they can get pissed by what they find? I hate these kinds of drama headaches and especially at this time of year when work drama is going to be at an all time high.

I really like my iphone. I especially like the heavy duty 'otter' case you can get for it.
You can invoice from anywhere. The Union Office is linked to me so that when work calls change it they enter it at the office or, after hours the call steward uprates it and any member who's on the call gets automatic updates.
Direct access to e-mail anywhere, I've got over 40 novels downloaded on it. I can't always listen to music because of how quiet we are backstage or when filming... but if its long scenes on stand by, you can always read.
The notes app is great...better not start talking about some of the GREAT apps !

I really like my Nokia 5100, it's dirt green, the buttons are nice and stiff and the battery hatch just came off like some kind of rotted, leprosy-diseased limb. I'm going to need some Zombrex for it pretty soon if I want to avoid dismemberment and horrible, horrible dramatic and gory death.

A final note on cellphones. I've often noted my dislike of ring tones, sometimes drawing refrence to this xkcd strip. My new phone came with a little midi tune as its default ring. Would changing it to a more traditional ringing sound mean showing care in my ring tone and thus validating the industry? On the otherhand I figure that since it's not an actual song my stance might still be solid.

I have, in my hands, the "Living" section of the Park Place Newspaper from Bowling Green, Kentucky. On the front page of the living-section, there is a big photo of an actor who goes to Western Kentucky University, who is portraying MacBeth in the school's performance of the play.
And I cannot take this actor seriously. God bless him, I just can't. Well... I'll let you see why.

The scar under his eye kind of looked like the outline of glasses. As indicated by my pantamime, I'm old.
