Swamp Thing always makes me think of the comic geek in my journalism classes back in college.

John Totleben lives in my hometown, so the guy drove up from college to go interview him and wrote a good article about it. But apparently it rubbed off on him. For the next article, we had to write about our hometowns. So he wrote about the swap meet in his, which is the largest in the country, and kept on going on about the "swamp meet" throughout. XD We teased him about it.

Last year on the radio station I listen to, the DJ asked people to call in with songs that would be appropriate for Columbus Day. One was Procol Harum's "Conquistador." But my favorite was Iron Maiden's "Run for the Hills." It made sense why that song fit when the caller said he was a Seneca Indian.

I'm going to take that as meaning you've tested each one personally. You have to respect that kind of attention to quality control.

Is it wrong that I can't help but laugh uncontrollably at the commercials showing Vanilla Ice's new show on the DiY network, where he mentions that he's had a "passion for home renovation" for the last 15 years?

if you change "passion for home renovation" to "Desperately trying to get back into celebrity status after being a 2 hit wonder for 15 years" it would be more accurate.

not sure why, but this comes to mind.

I was more laughing at the whole thing of "minor celebrity has to go back to doing menial jobwork when his record labor doesn't resign him" more than anything. Sorta like that episode of south park where Matt Damon dumps Jennifer Lopez for Cartman's hand puppet, and she winds up working at the local burger joint with the guy who sang Rico Suave.

After giggling at your posts... I noticed the wifal unit actually recorded that vanilla ice show...and we then watched it expecting some laughs.

It's basic premise is like half the shows on HGTV/DIY...he's spending a season renovating some mansion in Florida (instead of a farmhouse in the country.) From what I understand is that he buys these mansions and fixes them up.. rich people are total penny-pinchers. Like, the previous owner took the paving stones from the pool-deck, all the cabinets and appliances and counter tops from the kitchen, a ton of plumbing figures, etc.. when they left. He also appears to run his own landscaping business...and is surprisingly knowledgeable about palm trees and gardening.

Despite a couple of cringe-worthy attempts at 'yo yo yo' dialogue, he manages to run a watchable home-improvement show..and talks like a human 90% of the time.

The cable company has a free preview of the DIY network and the wife has been recording practically every show, especially things like 10 grand in your hand and house/yard/kitchen crashers.... I suppose anything is better than Glee and Lifetime Movie Network...

I really don't either. I just have the antenna to catch local channels so I know if a snowstorm is gonna bury me. Surprisingly I get a channel from Toronto too. Apparently Canadians also like Judge Judy. Who'd have guessed?

Amen to that. It's odd, though... Glee is targeted pretty strongly at the "me: demographic. Music nerd of epic proportions, etc etc. I can't STAND that show. I've watched it twice because of the critical acclaim it has gotten and it just makes me physically angry. Every character is a terrible human being (or stereotyped to a retarded degree) and the songs are dubbed (ew) and... AGH! I just want to strangle every one of them (except Sue who is way more awesome than that show deserves). I don't get why so many people like it so much.

Actually Rydia, my Mom watches that show & then tries to talk about it when we get together as a family at birthdays & holidays etc.
Its sad when they loose their faculties slowly in front of your eyes.

But I don't even get the 3 TV stations that are broadcast locally...something to do with the geography of where I am...the previous owner had this huge TV antena on the roof...it was one of the first things I tore down.

When Highspeed Internet went through 4 - 5 years or so ago, I got hooked up & they offered a package deal....I refused it. When a logging truck tore the wire from the pole to the first pole on my property last year, they came & replaced the entire length of cable & the installer told me that with a splitter I could get most of basic cable with my Internet connection & he's put 1 in for free.
I took a pass, thanks but no idiot tube for me thanks... From what I hear about TV here & elsewhere... I'd rather be a face crackhead, & that's not happening either !

Don't get me wrong, all of daytime TV (that isn't on Discovery) is utter poo... and most of the rest is, too. Some of it, however is excellent. Shows like True Blood, Sons of Anarchy and Caprica are phenomenal. Not trying to harsh yer mojo, but don't be throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Then again, that's what Hulu and various other "acquisition" sites are for, no?
