As a stereotypical southern white male, milk in tea is something of a foreign concept to me. Don't get me wrong, I've tried it before, I just wasn't wild about it. Milk in green tea? Eh... sounds like one of those "don't knock it 'till you try it" situations.

That's just as bad as putting milk in coffee !
Why did you go & ruin a cup of coffee ,by adding the juice of a lactating cow to it !?!
Milk belongs in titties & baby bottles.
I understand using milk to produce cheese, butter etc.
But we are the only mammal to continue to drink milk after we've outgrown our baby stage... sorry most of us not All of us ~;)

Well to be fair, being a nordic lass she pretty much grew up on drinking milk, and so did I and everyone I know. Milk is the staple drinkware in the nordic countries, it is a more common meal drink than any other beverage, even among adults. She probably thought it was okay to put milk in green tea, since it's so frequently added to black tea it must be good, right?
Obviously not. Black tea is a lot more bitter and has a heavier body than green tea due to the increased levels of oxidization, and thus a dash of milk is warranted, to smoothen the flavour and round off the taste. Green tea is supposed to be light and aromatic when brewed right - if it tastes bitter it's been steeped for too long and can be considered "ruined" - and it doesn't, SHOULDN'T need the milk to taste better, or even right. Green tea has subtle flavours that are lost when you add milk. Green tea with milk will taste like, well, hot water with a bit of milk in it. That's just not desirable if the you thought the taste would be similar to that of black tea and milk, which that girl did.
I should probably educate my peers a bit better about tea. At least my other friends know how to brew a good cup.

ok, so I have some non-bagged green tea and a little tea ball/scooper thing. Usually I use tea bags, but what is the proper way to prepare tea? (also, somewhere during my move I totally lost my tea kettle.)

I didn't notice until late last night there was a missed call on the phone from a friend. I figured she just wanted to gab like we normally do and figured it wasn't important and I'd catch up with her soon. About an hour ago I picked up the phone to call someone else and saw a message. It was from her and she sounded freaked out. So I called. Turns out she tried to kill herself yesterday. And here I thought it was just a normal missed call.

I boil water in my coffee pot, then pour it directly into a cup with the tea. I let it sit awhile and then use the sifter to pour it into a cup for drinking. I'm sure I'm doing it wrong but that's ok.

I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully your friend will find something in her life she can hang on to and live for. That's an important part of the human psyche, it's a lot easier to cope with stress, depression and trauma if you've got something unshakeable to stand on.

Bah I love this forum but sometimes it annoys me...
Interesting work moment today. The overnight assistant manager is a pretty big geek, and I mentioned NG to him today and turns out he hangs around here very frequently, but no account. Told him I was a mod and got like instant geek cred and then told I'm an "asshole" bwahahaha...the jealousy of my geek awesome was delicious.
I told him to get an account immediately so I can ban him. I am evil.

Crap, that'll learn me to post and not read...
I echo what everybody else said Rydia. Hell I miss calls and messages all the time because I usually have the ringer off because of work. You can't be held responsible (nor hold yourself responsible) for being able to pick up the phone at all times just in case.
Let's just be thankful that she didn't succeed and you can concentrate on helping her now.

I haven't heard anything in a day or so and I'm going to assume no news is good news. She last spoke with one of my friends and we've just been talking back and forth. They got her on some antidepressants and she's started talking to a psychologist at the hospital before her upcoming appointment, when that one will be regularly talking to her. Mom said I should have called yesterday, but the truth is, I was swamped with work with deadlines. That, and I don't think I can really handle it. I'm not sure what to do, you know? I'll catch up this weekend.

You know those bottles of fuel-engine-cleaner you see in auto parts houses? The ones you add into your gas tank to help clean the fuel injectors and improve fuel economy and all that shit? If you EVER decide to buy it, here's a tip; put the whole bottle into your gas tank ONLY if you have a full tank of gas. If you don't do this or are not willing to, then here's what you can do; take the bottle, jam it up your ass and give yourself a petroleum distillate and detergent enema, because you are far too stupid to be operating a motor vehicle. And I hope funny looking bubbles fly out of your ass when you do it, too.
I'm sorry, I don't mean to channel Luis Black, I just had a very expensive and aggravating day all because a $7 bottle of fuel injecotr cleaner did not have the words "add to a full tank of gas" on it. I now my folks for a tow truck bill, and now I'm getting ready to pay a rather expensive mechanic's bill to have the fuel pump on my 20 year old car replaced.
So how has your day gone, poli-reg lounge?!

Ouch, I think on the wrong car a fuel pump costs a few hundred dollars on top of towing and labour. On my car it seems the starter motor may be going bad, when I turn the ignition the engine doesn't always crank.
It feels like I would would be a rich man if old cars didn't need so many parts. =(

The only product I use out of that isle is fuel stabilizer when I winterize a vehicle.
If your engine is getting sluggish, it's likely because of all this 10% ethanol fuel out there. My dad couldn't use his boat all summer because it needed a whole new carburetor and rebuild something because of it. Motorcycles, ATVs, and boat engines get really fucked over by it. Aside from the obvious gas mileage drop, it can degrade gaskets and clog up other parts of the engine sooner than non-ethanol gas.
Maybe using 89 octane for a tank or two would help clean out the engine a little. I've always meant to ask a mechanic if those additives in the stores actually do anything. I just assumed it was kind of useless nothing, but if it made your car shit the bed, I guess it does something.

That sucks Proteas...but I already knew you need to fill your tank, actually my mechanic recommends you put the additive into your tank & then fill it with gas...supposedly helps mix it up better all that gas gushing into the almost empty tank where the injector cleaners sitting.
How would you like this bit of fun.
I own a 4x4 GMS 3.4 ton I do not 4 wheel drive it. that function is for slippery roads, or grass etc when i'm working.
When I was in Lunenburg in August, I loanded my truck to the transport dept so they could tow a tag along generator down to the beach, it was a rough path but if you went easy it wouldn't be a problem (I had walked it to be sure) I had my breaks done in July & knew my undercarriage etc was all good.
Well last week when I noticed a drip of Transmission fluid, i dropped in to see my mechanic, there's a big crease in my protection plate by my transmission, a line was damaged & slightly leaking & 4 of my manifold bolts are broken.
So someone in the transport Dept hit something damn hard & never bothered to mention it so the Production didn't fix it & they no longer exist, because the show has been done for over a month.
THis is one of my so called co-workers.
I haven't seen the 2 possible guy's yet, but I did contact the head of the Transport dept & everyone's been walking soft around me this week.
My truck goes in tomorrow to be repaird....estimates $ 1400.00 ~ but I suppose from your point of view its chepaer because it is Canadian dollars ~;)
Life Sucks...but what's the alternative gonna be like ?

Only by like, $40. Still an expensive repair I'd demand they pay for, as I imagine you did.
------
The total cost wound up being a lot less than I thought they were going to be, but still a bit of hurting financially; close to $300 on the repair for parts and labor. The fuel pump and fuel filter were shot, and there was trash in the fuel lines... the only thing my mechanic can figure is that something in the injector cleaner caused material in the fuel filter itself (dirt?) to breakup and go through the lines, causing everything to fuck up. The fuel pump was just a casualty of old age. :-\
The guy who works on my car works out of a van, a "roadside repair" service as it were. Because of that, I was able to have my car hauled to my home and worked on instead of being taken to a shop and all that mess, so this guy's overall cost was cheaper because he has less over-head. But it was a bit scary, because at times I'd have to help him a bit, like when he had the pump and all that put back together, I had to start the car while he eyeballed the gas pressure valve in front to see if anything was coming through. Some gas got on the engine, and something sparked... big flames.
Fat guys can run, believe me, we can haul wholesale ass if we have too. And I did. to get a water hose while he smothered the flames with a clean rag.
But it runs, now. It's running smoother, but still needs a tune up.
I so want to get plastered right now, but I have to work in the morning. DAMMIT!!!
