Goaltender for Ghana's really bad. I mean all you have to do is tap the ball and it'll still go in.

Well, when you have to study a country for 14 weeks, you kinda get to know it a bit. I still need Google Translate every now and then to read articles but I'm happy to say my Spanish is getting good enough I can use the search function on the site, which Google doesn't translate. Besides, my Spanish is more Latin American than European Spanish.

The World Cup recently has been making me think of a professor I had in library school. He came over here from Ghana. He wanted to watch Ghana in the 2006 World Cup, but his wife and daughters monopolized the TV watching soap operas. He had to go to a bar to watch.

My mother was going through some boxes and found my dad's highschool yearbook, class of 1975. I'd seen the picture of him before (think young Huge Laurie but with less hair), but she went through the section of it where it had detailed information.

His personal hobby was farming.
He was the vice president of the FFA and was on the parliamentary procedure council.
His nickname was "Noodles."
He was best known for not doing his homework.
His noteable phrase was "I'm not doing that."

The first two facts didn't surpise me because he's got a bachelor's degree in Agriculture, but the last three things... I almost passed out from laughter.

That's some nice looking pork roast you got there. What kind of seasoning do you use (if any)?

My dad smoked a bunch of boston butt, ribs, and chicken for a cookout/birthday partly for my grandmother, today. I got a little bit of it (fantastic), and after I got done, I had to take a couple plates to my other grandmother's house across town. My mom had one of those ESP/freakyshit moments and felt I needed to go and be there for my grandmother, and I was advised to to take a weapon with me.

Long story short; my retarded cousin got out of a halfway house this afternoon where she was at for mental instability issues, came home and raised hell, then was hauled off to the county lockup on domestic assault charges. Yeah. Nothing like spending 4th of July weekend in a cell, hm?

Oh, and when I got back an hour ago there were only three grilled tubesteaks left over. Everything else got ate. :-\

Mom is marinating a very large steak overnight tonight. We'll split it for the three of us tomorrow. I know we're also having corn and apple pie but I'm not sure what else. Maybe a salad would taste good. I can't do macaroni salad though. It doesn't sit well with me.

I have Monday off work but the downside of it is making up hours. Well, whatever.

My fourth was pretty fun. was supposed to meet friend for drinks at 7. I showed up at the bar at 7:30, but none were there. the bartender asked if I was pre-gaming for the fireworks. At around 8 I walked across the street to my friend's house and she was there with another friend dealing with a wardrobe issue or something, so we finally made it back to the bar and our other friends came in and we had a couple of drinks before heading out to the golf course where the annual fireworks display happens.

Met up with some more friends there and enjoyed the show together. Afterward we went back to the bar where my older brother's 10 year highschool reunion was taking place. By the end of the night we all wound up at a wine-bar down the street..and by 'wine bar" i mean burger place turned wine bar for 1 night a week and by down the street i literally mean 2 doors down, because my town is in buttfuck nowhere.

My dad's house is within walking distance of all of the above mentioned destinations, so my stuporific hijinks happened without needing any DD

Sometimes you just have to love small towns

I start with a yellow mustard rub, which doesn't do a whole lot in terms of flavor but gives the rub something to stick to and helps give the bark a good color. The rub was brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. It sat in the rub overnight and then spent six hours in the smoker the next day, then rested about 45 minutes before I pulled it. Wound up filling two aluminum half-sheet catering pans with shredded meat - took one to our friend's party and kept the other.

I don't think our friend mentioned to his wife that we were planning on bringing meat, so there wound up being WAY too much food.

Then you would have loved the drive to the village this morning.
My brakeline ruptured, coming to a 4 way intersection, no brakes... I'm pumping them to try & stop i then engaged the emergency brakes (made a great sound !...didn't stop truck ) dropped it into first gear & held on while those with the right of way, got out of the way.

Was exciting for a moment or 3... I went up on a grassy stretch near our war dead memorial, no one got hurt & nothing got smashed though -sorry-

But damn it had potential ~;)

I'll have to pass that on to my dad. He uses Gordon's Grub Rub on his pork roast and ribs, and... it's all right, but it's not that great, you know? The meat comes out of the smoker just moist, but this stuff really doesn't add much in terms of flavor.

What kind of wood do you use?

----

I bought a 10' length of soft nylon rope with the intention of making a practice meteor hammer, today. Well, actually I bought it to practice making a Monkey's Fist knot which would then be used in making a practice meteor hammer, I wanted to know how much rope I would need to make the knot itself before I buy an appropriate length of rope.

Would you believe that out of a 10' length of rope, 4' of rope went into making the knot itself, or that because of the 5/8th" rope I used the knot barely came out half the size of my fist?

Would you further believe that I proceeded to go out into my yard and crack myself in the head, leg, and somehow my back with this thing while swinging it around?

I did my beef brisket and pork spareribs with mesquite, but the pulled pork was a 50/50 combination of hickory and applewood, soaked in bourbon and water.

FYI... When I went to the NS Nautical Institute we were taught how to tie a monkey's fist...we were told not to use it at work.
We were also taught how you could 'load' it with a weight in the core of the knot...something that made it heavier, so it would be easier to throw a heaving line as far as it was long. (think -large steel nut, ball bearing , lead weight)

Might want to look into that, it will make it bigger...& you'll have even more damage/fun swinging it around in your yard ~:)

We all had a good laugh after a few drinks.

That's one thing my dad won't mess with; applewood. He says it gives the meat a flavor he doesn't like too much, but now mixing it with hickory might perk his interests a bit (he loves the stuff). But I can hear him griping now about how bourbon's for drinking, not for cooking...

He could probably do the hickory on its own, or replace the applewood with another sweet fruit or nut wood, like pecan or cherry.

And it was cheap shitty bourbon, you wouldn't want to drink it. The mop I applied was also bourbon-based - bourbon and Dr. Pepper, in fact. The high sugar content helped produce that nice bark.

Watching world cup made me search out an old soccer ball at my dad's house. I first found an old champions league imitation miniball, which was neat, but my dad busted the little ring when he tried to fill it up with a full-pressure air compressor. Today I finally found a usable ball and played around with it all day long.

I taught myself how to do a rainbow and then went to the school and practiced volleying. I forgot how my ankle used to hurt after soccer games...until today. But mostly I'm excited about being able to do a rainbow.
