Chainmail has no practical purpose on the female body (or any body, for that matter) beyond distracting enemies on the battlefield,

Really? I find that kind of surprising, unless you're only talking about modern warfare where getting shot with mail on will only kill you harder than you would have otherwise been killed. It seemed like it would be quite useful against bladed weapons, and I know they're even incorporating mail structures into modern stab-proof vests.

I was jokingly reffering to the way female costumers use it to as a way to be sexy and distracting more than they do for it's original intended purpose. Case in point (NSFW).

Okay, now I remember seeing that movie in the 7th grade late night on TV-- and if I remember right, she's some sort of space cadet who finds a world filled with hippies and WEIRD crap. And she falls in love with a hippy space inhabitant (or was it vice versa?)

I don't know if this is the same film, but I think they burned a guy... after tracing his outlines on the wall with a flame torch. I'm not sure if it's the same film, but it was startling enough for me to remember after... 15 years?

The chick who checked me out at Victoria's Secret today was Muslim. and she was wearing the burka covering everything but the face etc.

and I'm totally fine with that but I couldn't help but wondering, isn't she uncomfortable working in a store that mostly sells lingerie?

Off topic, anytime I hear Barbarella (spell?) I think of the Futurama episode where Leela was supposed to be her.

Off topic even more.. Tornadoes = not awesome

$10 says she's wearing some underneath the burqa.

Sorry folks, it's late, I'm tired, and that's the way my mind works. Plus, this (skip to about the 7 minute mark and just start watching).

She could wear lingerie under her burqa-- I remember an interview with Christian Amanpor a few years ago on on the cultural divide of Muslims after 9-11, and she asks a Muslim woman, "What's under the Burqa?"

I'm paraphrasing at this point, but I remember her response going more or less like this: "Like Playboy... like, Victoria's Secret." And then she talks about buying the most beautiful lingerie and things like that.

She just can't show it off-- although, ask yourself this: How many girls show off their lingerie to the world in general?

I actually walked by the table of free stuff today (I held off on my weekly shopping cause I figured "why two trips?"). Got slightly made fun of by the girl at the counter for it, but then she fucked up the registered and tried to charge me like 8,000 dollars for 30 bucks worth of books...I feel this completely evened it out.

In sadder news, My great grandmother passed away on thursday at the age of 92. We knew it was coming as her health had become very poor and she was in a nursing home we weren't completely happy with so...she's at peace now.

In other news, I really fucking hate my job to intolerable degrees. I really and truly need to look at at least changing stores at this point.

No chance to enjoy comics today...spent a good part of today at the lab. Would have gotten more done if the network hadn't been down since yesterday. The campus CERT team came in and it turns out some asshole unplugged a network cord and there went our network loop.

I have to go back tomorrow to finish a chart. After that, this project is finally done. However, I have another project due in 2 weeks and a research paper due next week so I will be a stress case for two weeks.

Why not change jobs altogether? A change of stores would only change the people you work with and the customers you get, but it doesn't change the whole feel of the job altogether.

But I guess if your main problem in your job is either of the aforementioned two, a store change may be all you need.

Amen.

At least you miss her, though. When my great-grandmother passed away about two years ago, there jokes made by various relatives to the extent that "I hope they fill that casket with concrete, I'd hate to see her rise up during a zombie apocalypse" and "Scary in life, even scarier in death!"

In other news, I really fucking hate my job to intolerable degrees. I really and truly need to look at at least changing stores at this point.

I understand that. Due to recent events at my store, I'm considering changing jobs altogether.

Let's just say it's not paranoia if people really are out to get you.

Just finished a new short story. I kinda like it, actually. It's in a very different style than I usually write, taking aspects of Japanese Ero Guro and trying to sculpt a symbolic narrative about humanity and desire. It's posted in the Writing Forum as a part of the Writing Tournament, and also in my balg here: http://ravariel.newgrounds.com/news/post /467447

Tell me what you think.

or don't, that's cool, too :P

Hey Avie, sorry to hear your sad news. Although 92 years she had a long life.

A good friend from work died Thursday.
I just got home from the funeral about 30 minutes ago, came here to see what's new & hopefully up beat & saw your note.
I worked with my friend it would be 15years this summer... he died of cancer & suffered really badly in the end.

Stuff like this makes me want to either go in my sleep or at 700 miles an hour , in other words q u i c k .
I'd like to also see the word 'funeral' changed to 'saderal', because they sure isn't any 'fun' in them at all :'(

I once went to my cousin's wedding dressed all in black, because I heard somebody was getting buried.

I saw a photo on Failbooking and I think it might be one of my ex-boyfriends. The face is blurred, so I can't confirm, but I laughed my ass off anyway.

Corny as it is, that joke actually got a good reaction from my great uncle, who was on his third marriage at that point.

Is it the one I'm thinking it is, because if so, I will laugh my ass off with you.

I've got an uncle who found out he has cancer this week, but we have no idea about the stages or anything, and I'm not about to start complaining when so many other people in here have lost family/friends this week.

No, it's an earlier asshole ex. I have a whole collection of them, unfortunately.

Cancer is pretty scary, even when it's just a bad mole. Hopefully he'll get good news!

I think most people probably have a collection of crappy ex's...I know I do...they should make trading cards or something, the game of heartbreak or something.

Thanks for the sympathy everyone.

Far as the job issues, it's a situation where the work isn't the problem, it's the idiots above me and the way they're running the store into the ground. Ultimately I want to get into something a little more in line with my career goals, but at this point, I'm making a decent wage, have pretty good benefits, and it just seems kind of dumb to me to jump from one retail gig to probably another retail gig where I'll have to start all over and probably take (at best) like a two dollar pay cut. Fortunately turnover is high there and a friend of mine who just recently got fired over some bullshit is gearing up for a wrongful termination suit and should win so hopefully that's going to make the big wigs get off their ass and force some change.

Pretty much the same situation here. My department manager and co-workers have filed complaints against me for work ethic, and several customers have filed complaints against me for poor customer service. I realize I've got issues, and so does my store manager, which is why I'm glad he's willing to work with me to work through my issues in order to keep my job... although he is just as puzzled as I am at how I manage to keep getting customer complaints despite my excellent customer service skills.

But on the other hand, what's the point in keeping this job if I can't move up in the company? We're now a government contractor, and because of that, we have to abide by the government's hiring standards and practices. We have to list any openings with government unemployment offices in addition to listing them internally, and they've also eliminated the management training program to give people to experience necessary to move up.

So I'm stuck where I am, because I have no management experience and can't get it. My department manager is stuck as a member of middle management despite her efforts to prove herself and move up, and my friends who want to move up and out of the store are pretty much stuck where they're at.

So... yeah... I'm exploring my options right now.

-----

Anybody in the southern states get a lot of rain this weekend? I think it rained for almost 48 straight hours here. No damage to property since I live on high ground, but we did get a warning from a friend of ours who works for the city to conserve our drinking water for the next few days, the water pump for the city is having issues with water pressure.

Oh, and work sucked. Weekends are our busiest time, and we didn't do jack shit all weekend because of the weather. We sold a lot of sump pumps and shop-vacs, but that was about it.

Ah I thought you were talking about chain mail in general. Obviously costume chainmail is roughly as useful as a breastplate with actual breasts.
